Damn...Concurrent Steam Users count reaches 7.5M

Damn. It's half a million of new users in less than a month. Or 1.5M more users compared to the last year. . PC Gaming is really booming this year.

Almost 2M gamers playing games on Steam simultaneasly without counting offline gamers.

Well it's the Holidays and a steam sale. And wow those L4D2 numbers are inflated

They gave it away for free during the sale. But the usual peak for the game is around 10-15K

Well. Compared to the last Holidays and steam sale, there were only6M of concurrent users. It's a 1.5M influx of concurrent users in a year's time.

Valve is one of the few companies we like to see well. Hopefully the stats for origin are incredibly shit.

people love free stuff. I'm sure it will drop off again by the end of next month, people will get bored or they will run into issues with the community

In my office, at work, everybody who didn't have L4D2 have downloaded it when it was free. Now everybody plays it.

It is an amazing game. Always find myself reinstalling and playing it from time to time. No idea why you're acting so surprised that people still play it.

I agree. Even though it is an incredibly simple game. It does require team work. Especially on the harder mods.

This isn't the case with titles like Borderland 2 or other supposed COOP titles. They generally speaking, feature very poor cooperation.

Expert/advanced mode or bust. Difficulty will really pull out that teamplay even from the most egoistic players. I love how the game will punish those that decide to go alone or be jackasses. Without the help of others you're pretty much roasted.

Lately I've been playing on some custom servers with 8 or even up to 20 players on some custom extreme difficulty mode. I'm loving the chaos.

What do you mean about BL2? im pretty sure that at OP8 or even ultimate vault hunter mode its harder than l4d1 or 2.

steam came out before ps3 and 360 and it has less users and its free i wonder why that is.

Those people making this out to be a "small deal" you fail to factor in that this isn't the entirety of PC gaming... its one digital store that happens to be huge on its own. those 150 - 250k+ people playing Battlefield 3/4 on pc.... not represented. or any other origin only game, or ubisoft platform only game... or GoG gamers ect.

or Battle.net (Hearthstone, World of Warcraft, Starcraft II, Diablo III) , League of legends (which can peak over a million players online at once... making DoTA 2's 600k seem quite small).

What console games ever reach these heights now? you will see CoD or Halo on release day pull some impressive numbers then fade down far below many of these PC titles.

The ammount of older and unique titles still played by 10k+ people consistantly aswell is impressive. what genre outside of shooters do consoles even have a damn population on now?

look at civ 5, garrys mode and skyrim .... mostly single player games.... their community and lifespan is extended.... and 2 of them offer an experiance you can't have on consoles.

to undermine one digital store compared to the consoles population is a joke... and your missing the point entirely. steam is a choice for 99% of games, not a requirement.

People leave their pc's on all day. Most pc gamers allow Steam to launch automatically. People dont leave their consoles on all day.

Multiplayer last a lot longer on PC vs consoles. That's one of the things I hated about the PS3. The online community for games die off way too fast.

Xbox live hit 3.3 million during MW 3's launch window. Most of those people were playing games. Most of those 7.5 million are surfing the web or maybe not even home.

Let´s see the stats then,where can you prove that most were playing games when that specific peak was achieved? Link? Or just the usual blabber?

This is very true, however I have to agree with the consolites about bigger profits being on the console side of things, due to day-one purchases and less piracy.

Plus very generous "gifts" from MS and Sony.

It is well known. Consolites buy day one then re-sell shortly afterwards in order to minimise expenses.

Look at BF4, PC has 600k sales according to VGCharts. Let's assume 70% bought it digitally instead. That makes 2Mil.

Now compare that to consoles, past 5Mil already.

And due to the competitive and online nature of said game, it is logical to assume single player ones do a lot worse.

Pc gamers predomintely buy at discount on Steam/watever during sales, or anyway once prices start dropping.

So, total volume sales might be comparable or even better on PC, but obviously publishers/devs get less profit from pc as a platform
