360 - http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/799/799368p2.html

PS3 -http://ps3.ign.com/articles/799/799624p3.html

"The Darkness is a wonderfully gruesome adventure. There are some truly dark and even shocking moments in the story. There's a twist at the end of the first chapter that shook me a bit. And though the story does lose its way and makes little sense towards the end, it's still a fun ride. It's too bad that the AI and gameplay mechanics couldn't be smoothed out a bit more to match the impressive visual presentation. The PlayStation 3 version is virtually identical to the 360, other than the occasional aliasing issues and sporadic slowdown."

P.S. I'm guessing it will flop here at gamespot hard, I mean with the new point system and all. Hype was AA right, my guess is a 7.0 to 7.5 here.

Virtually identical? It's missing AA and motion blur, I wouldn't call that virtually identical. But at least IGN mentions a visual difference, every other review so far has been skipping the comparison part entirely.

Buh buh buh teh PS3 has teh hire stand0rdz!!1

...

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Anyway, a lot of these games seem to be developed for 360 first, then devs just don't have the desire or resources to upgrade it for PS3.

See what pissed me off is that it was the same review, so i wonder if they even played both versions. They never mention 1080p. And they never mention the bonus content which I must say is fantastic.

Dont worry the conspiracy theorists will disregard anything but ign and gamespot and 1up even though these other reviewers have even less to gain from a fake review then the big 3 do. I bought it and its phenomenal.

AA is more important for me. The reason why 360 games often have better anti-aliasing than PS3 games is because 360 has 10MB of memory dedicated to theGPU just to handle graphics enhancements, like AA. In fact the total memory of 360 is 522MB (512MB of shared memory and that 10MB just for graphics effects).

Aliasing and framerate, huh. Ninja Gaiden Sigma runs at 1080p with 60 FPS with no noticable aliasing. I just don't understand how you can possibly claim a loss for the PS3 when it's obviously capable of more. Want proof? Take a look at Burnout Legends, Haze, Dark Sector, or any of the other games where PS3 is the lead platform.

There are seriously issues with porting Xbox 360 games to Playstation 3. This simply is not new. We wait for each game to come out, not so we can dissect it, but so we can see if a developer figured it out yet. Yeah, it's getting ridiculous, but these issues were explained to us by Julian Eggebrecht. Frankly, I don't think the developer of a 7.8 game is going to be capable of optimizing gameplay for the PS3 with the same framerate and quality visuals when it's a port directly from the Xbox 360. This has been proven time and again.

This isn't a tick towards the PS3 of course, it absolutely sucks reading that a game you wanted to buy has "choppy framerate," in fact, I consider that the #1 gamekiller. The PS3 is capable of more. It really is, very simply, porting issues and developer incompetency.

Missing AA and motion blur? When did the review say that? All it said was the difference was minor. Maybe that could be the reason a lot of other reviews didn't bother mentioning it...

In fact the total memory of 360 is 522MB (512MB of shared memory and that 10MB just for graphics effects).

Antialiasing>motion blur. 360 games may have better anti-aliasing on average, but the 360 is not capable of better anti-aliasing than the Playstation 3. I don't believe any single game even utilizes the framebuffer for the intended "no cost" anti-aliasing

Unified memory is not as good as dedicated memory. It's simply cheaper. Example: low end PCs that don't have to render high-end graphics have unified memory. High end PCs have seperate memory pools.

Take a look:

http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_term/0,2542,t=shared+video+memory&i=51248,00.asp

"Sharing main memory with the display function reduces the amount of memory available to applications, and main memory is not as fast as the specialized video memory on stand-alone cards (see video RAM). See display adapter."

Video memory is faster (PS3), sharing main memory reduces the amount of memory available to applications (there goes the "522 MB" argument).

You will never have 522MB of video RAM available on the Xbox 360. The optimal situation is probably going to be 256/256 plus the 10 MB framebuffer which, in actuality, is not even linked directly to the bandwidth of the GPU and invariably handles minor functions.

Plus, the Playstation 3's XDR RAM dedicated for the CPU actually has higher bandwidth than the GDDR3 in the XBox 360.

So? Gamespot scores are gamespot scores. That's the only scores we use. And if people are going to be all ecstatic over a 0.1 or 0.3 difference than I'm pretty happy that we have to use gamespot scores...

I've got a simple argument against this. The Ninja Gaiden Sigma demo is on my hard drive. I can boot it up right now if I want. Play Motorstorm, play Resistance, play GTHD.

Why in hell do I have to link common knowledge. This has been proven time and again. Google it. Search for it on IGN or Gamespot. It's out there, the developer said it a million times, ad nauseum.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/775/775292p1.html

"From a technical aspect, Ninja Gaiden Sigma looks about as sharp as we figure games can get. Every texture in the game has been reworked for the PlayStation 3, and a number of other effects have been added to spice things up, like self-shadowing and so forth. Some creatures now shine with ooze, while others emit clouds of something as they scurry about the battlefield. Tecmo said that it has just recently managed to implement full 1080p support into the game, and at a full 60fps to boot. Yes, this is one slick-looking title."

Wow! The 360 is perfect! The argument here is that Ninja Gaiden runs at 1080p at 60 FPS, which, according to the developers, has yet to be done on any console.

Gahah... you're so dense and narrow-minded. The point was if it's native or not. I've seen other sources that say it's native. I just thought it was weird after they said that the sweet spot for performance is 720p.

Anyway, I bet if they were to take full advantage of the PS3 to make a game it would be in 720p.

""There are companies out there that are developing games at 1080p, and the problem is that they're really pushing the limits of the hardware at that resolution, and I think that if you examine it objectively you will see that in order to get the best balance of performance and image quality then 720p is your only choice. I think that the companies that are making a big deal out of making games at 1080p are either underestimating their ability to get their games to run well at that resolution, or they're basically just using that as an advertising gimmick.""

1080p+60FPS. 1080p is the highest resolution, and 60 FPS is the highest detectable framerate to the human eye. That is simply the best possible combination. Optimal, if you will.

I bet it was a pleasant surprise to them. It is inarguable that 1080p+60FPS is better than 720p+60FPS. They made no compromises. Read the IGN preview. Great visuals, smooth gameplay. Performance+visuals.

I don't care what they said earlier. They've consistently told us otherwise. What they were able to achieve on the PS3 speaks for itself.
