I think the gameplay in Diablo is a little misunderstood sometimes. It's difficult to compare to Dark soul, and yes in a way it is more limited and consists of just pointing towards an enemy and attacking. But there are nuances in the game that affect gameplay and they are well designed.
For instance in Diablo 2 my favorite build was the Zealot. One of the best things you could do to him was giving him max attack speed. In order to do that, you had to reach a certain point with one of your stats and that in turn increased the number of hits you did per second with the Zeal command, if I remember correctly.
The attack speed increases happened at certain thresholds and you had to hunt the right armor or weapon to get the build you wanted as well as get to max attack speed. Your skill choices will depend on that as well and overall there were tons of different little strategies I used to apply sometimes to increase my effectiveness at the higher difficulties. A lot of this stuff for me is part of the gameplay. Anyways I could explain it better and there are others things to add, but I'm short on time gotta go game......at the end of the day I love both franchises but Diablo is like a favorite of mine.
Diablo is heaps better. Dark Souls is for people who have nothing else better to do with their time apart from replay the same level 10 times in a row. I don't have enough free time on my hands to replay the same level over and over due to stupidly high difficulty settings that are designed to make virgins feel proud of their "accomplishments".
I beat Demon's Souls back in 2010 - it was a good game and I enjoyed it, but I deeply regret the large amounts of time I spend on it. I could have used that time to play other games instead.
Umm, seriously?
You replay the same damn levels over and over again in Diablo. It's an incredibly short game, and it's a loot fest, so replaying levels is how you get more loot.
Also, it's not Dark Souls' fault you suck at it.
Funny how you suggest I suck at Dark Souls, yet I already mentioned I beat Demon's Souls, which is just as hard (if not harder) than Dark Souls.
Dark Souls was DESIGNED to make you die as many times as possible. Therefore, I have no shame in admitting that I died several times, because that was the entire purpose behind the game. The developers themselves never tried to hide their intentions behind the game's difficulty, and they did a good job at making it that way. So will happily admit to it: I had a hard time with the Souls series. And I don't even feel embarrassed to say it. Because that was that the game was designed to do.
So let me ask you the question: have YOU ever died in Dark Souls?
@sonicare: The ARPG genre was around long before both games.
What was prior?
Countless. From Dragon Slayer and Hydlide to Secret of Mana and King's Field.
Damn, hard to believe Diablo was in 96 (basically 97). Seems so much more ancient than that lol.
But yeah, there are a ridiculous amount of ARPGs that predate it.
Dark Souls.
Only Diablow I kinda liked was the first one and that was mostly because of the aesthetics. (atmosphere, music, artstyle)
You're comparing a game that ushered in the ARPG to one that came out 15 years later.
and
...
ok that it ?
If it makes you sleep better at night, then great but stop making topics which makes no sense.
Comparing Dark Souls to Diablo is like comparing Apples to Oranges. They both taste different, and cater to different tastes
But one isn't senseless by asking "Which fruit do you like better; apples or oranges?" because they are both fruits and fall under the same classification
Dark Souls and Diablo are both indeed action RPGs, albeit different kinds.
