In this issue of Qore, Veronica Belmont interviewed the President and Director of Quantic dream's upcoming game Heavy Rain and in this interview, she asked David Cage this question:

"Veronica Belmont: If you were to tell someone very briefly what kind of game it ( heavy rain) is? what would you say?

David Cage: I would say it's not a game, I would say you are the hero of a movie, and the movie and the story changes based on your actions"

This is the best description of this game, it is like a movie and instead of just watching the movie, you are the hero of the movie which is something incredible to experience.

What do you think? discuss.

Haven't you people ever played an adventure game?

This game is an adventure game. Their previous game was Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy.

Could be cool, or could be incredibly boring depends on their story telling and if there is more things to do then just quick time events.

I have. A true Adventure game like Monkey Island is very different from an Interactive movie like Dragon Lair.

I like both those games, but I'll keep an open mind and wait until we know more about Heavy Rain. Who knows maybe it does something different.

I always felt the say way about HR, it looks more like a movie than a game. I have been tracking HR for 2 years now and I the "movie" doesnt look all that great (yeah thats rite the visuals are not that great) like some of my fellow cows have beening preeching about.

Thats exactly what im trying to say, if you played Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy its easy to make that description on Heavy Rain easily fit Fahrenheit, the whole premise of the game was that it was a movie, in some parts of the game you could do certain actions that change the outcome of the story (many if not all of the changes were minimal things), damn even the tutorial of Fahrenheit was on a movie studio.

Heavy Rain will just be a more modern take.

And for the last time Heavy Rain is an adventure game.

It looks like it has incredible graphics but like I've posted before, there is next to no gameplay. (At least that's what I'm lead to believe) I thihnk it will be, as posted before, a kind of choose your own adventure type of thing.

If done right, it could be interesting. Isn't that what Peter Jackson wanted to do with his Untitled Halo Project?

sorry but, who decides that there are such things as "interactive movies" a game is a game, as long as you make choices, it is a game. he wasnt saying heavy rain is a film he was just explaining how the game will play out, "like a movie" if this even knocks on how good fahrenheit was, then it will be phenomenal.

I think it's a little combination of both, but he's obviously setting it up so that the critics don't take shots at it for being a lot more cinematic.

He should just say "choose your own adventure" and get it over with.

Critics--mostly the 360 crowd--Are going to take his words fo granted and refer to the comment as though he's being asbolutely literal.

Um, I would call Call of Duty 4 and GeoW as cinematic games, Also MGS4 with perhaps too many non-interactive cutscenes, but things like Fahrenheit and Dragon lair are interactive videos.

Well I hope critics are more understanding of the way he is presenting videogames as a medium.

Thats what Indigo Prophecy was... nothing new here. I hope they worked more on the game aspects though. Like how a character should control with an analog stick. Indigo Prophecy's controls made zero sense at all. Thats what made me stop playing the game. For like every 3d game since Mario 64, if you move the stick left, your character moves left on the screen. You move it right, they move right, etc. IP is like... Left moves them down, right moves then left and everytime the camera angles changes (this is near constant, cuz its a "movie") your controls get scrambled again. I can never figure it out. It wasn't even like old school Resident Evil where Left just makes your character spin to the left based off of the direction he was facing. It really is like they just scramble the controls. I hope they fixed that. Thats like gaming 101.

What is not clear so far for people is how they called it a movie game as non interactive cutscenes, this needs to be clarified because in every scene, in every movie in Heavy Rain is controlled by the player which makes it a much engaging experience and David Cage make sure of clearing this misunderstanding with his statement.

I would hardly call Indigo Prophecy an "interactive video". It was more like an old-school adventure game brought back to modern day.

I think the people who are weary of this because of the crappy games on the PS1/Saturn that were supposed to be "interactive movies" ... need to look at the quality of Heavy Rain, compared to the quality of games before.

Those games were created in an era when 3D was fairly new. This is 2009.

Those games were fmv. This isn't.

Those games had lower budgets. This doesn't.
