They hyped everyone up with amazing meaningful trailers and it's basically a realistic bulletstorm with zombies. I want the 2006 dead island :(

Ouch. disappointing for sure. I'll wait for the price to drop, and get it on a Steam promotion. Merex76033 bucks on GMG with 20% off promo code.
Great, my ********** friends made me pre-order this instead of Space Marine (which has a *****ing demo at least). "Oh, you'll have friends playing Dead Island, no need to worry at all".
Doesn't look horrible. Looks average I think. That seems a bit too generous. And I'm serious, that game looks horrible. :P

Eh, seems about right. A 6 from Eurogamer is about equal to an 8 from IGN.
I still want the game, but mainly because the idea of an open world zombie "rpg lite" that I can play with my friends is very appealing.

From the footage I saw, it seems like a very, very slow paced, repetitive and boring game. With the character repeating the same lines over and over. It looks bad. Not *horrible* I suppose, but not good, or even average.

I guess I should have said bulletstorm with a believable enviroment, my bad :P
That's a generous score.Didn't they give FFXIII a 4 or something? They're usually way off the mark as far as I'm concerned.

Funny when you can read a terrible negative review and it actually makes you want to buy the game. This isn't a game that you can simply receive a copy of for the sole purpose of reviewing, it's a game that you need to be immersed in to truly appreciate. It's either going to immersive to you and you'll enjoy it or you'll find it bland from the start. It's a game that's going to have a lot of mixed reviews from people. Bottom line, if you love zombies and a mix of RPG elements you'll probably enjoy the game and if you don't really care much for zombies or RPG you'll probably not like the game.
Seems to me that the majority of the complaints are about the technical aspects of Dead Island, but even then the game still looks a lot more polished than something like Fallout: New Vegas. I'm pretty hyped for it despite the mixed reviews and will definitely be checking it out. At this point in time there hasn't really been a zombie apocalypse game quite like this one.
Still getting the game, they gave Mafia 2 4/10 and i loved that game. I never listen to review sites anyways, its all opinions of other people. All i know this game looks awesome and i wanted to get it since day 1 and i will.

thats the right mindframe to have. Reviews are just opinions. Only facts they can give is proboly length, content and tec issues
"Some of you might play the game and wonder why I gave it a 9/10. You might look at the faults that I've outlined and declare "that list is worth more than a one point deduction!" However, look at it like this. I don't believe in a system where you have to deduct certain percentages of points per hang-up or fault you find in a game. For me it's the overall experience while playing through that determines the final score. Yes, there were faults that I discovered throughout my experience with the game. However, every game has faults, and I viewed this through the lens of a gamer. Did I enjoy this game? Absolutely. Did it scare the crap out of me at times? 100%. Was there a real feeling of survival horror (as opposed to just jumping-scares) that has been sadly lacking from other contemporary zombie games? You bet. So looking at the total package that was brought to the table here, this game is too fun to play and too unique an experience to be really nit-picky on the things that didn't go exactly as I'd rather them go. As I write these final thoughts, there is only one review out there on the web, and if the rest of the press agrees with that reviewer's thoughts, my review will likely be one of the higher-scoring ones out there. That's fine though; I truly stand behind this score. Hopefully you will pick this game up and experience one of the most engaging experiences I've had with my 360 in quite some time. This is a game that needs to be in a gamer's collection, so try to make it happen if you can, guys."
This may be TeamXbox, but I really like what the reviewer says. I can tell that he thinks like me, in that if a game provides and enjoyable experience, then technical issues and little niggling flaws can easily be ignored. Not everyone takes this stance, but it is pretty much how I judge games. If it is fun, it's fun... warts and all. That is the clear and distinct impression I am getting from this game.

I could totally stand by this way of reviewing. End of the day its about if the gamer enjoyed the game. If the issues arent to huge tec wise like the game playing like a slide show or constant freezing and crashing I dont see how would it effect the enjoyment.

wow thats way to harsh. I never goto them for opinions.
meh IGN gave it an 8.
game trailers gave it a 8.5.
metacritic has all the reviews, seems to be Love it or hate it.
Im getting it 4 player co op!
Most reviewers seem to agree that it is deeply flawed, but still fun.
I think this is one of those games where you should take the opinions of reviewers with a grain of salt, because you enjoying the game depends on whether or not you can forgive its mistakes.
Andrew Riener (executive editor of Game Informer) posted a blog earlier about how it's one of his games of the year and he had some VERY positive things to say about the game. The only review I've seen that claims the game is no fun came from Justin McElroy at Joystiq. Let's not forget that he's the one who gave Nier a zero because he was fishing in the wrong spot. His only reason for it not being fun was the fact that you spend a lot of time looting. God forbid you loot in an RPG, right?MrSelf-DestructI Love LOOT. add another reason to why Im buying this game lol. One thing I dont get is when some people have said " O another zombie game...." in the context of theres millions of zombie games out there, when really theres only like 5 haha.

I loot like crazy. One of my favorite things about Fallout, Oblivion, Torchlight, Diablo, Borderlands, and any other game with tons of loot is looting. So I'm totally down with too much looting. And I'm with you on the zombie thing, too. There are zombies in a lot of different games, but there are only a handful of big zombie titles and not one of them are a RPG.

I LOVE LOOT. dont even remind me of Skyrim and Borderlands 2 haha. yea theres not many zombie games I can think of besides the Dead Rising series and the L4D series and those are the big titles. what system are you getting DI for? PC?
Meh, there has been more positivity in reviews than negative, and even alot of the more mixed reviews seem to all be saying that the game is VERY fun, just lacking a bit of polish which thankfully Techland is apparently adding on via patches.
Cannot WAIT to pick this up tomorrow! Been watching loads of gameplay and getting uber hyped for it!
I will say though, that really I am alredy eagerly awaiting sequel to this game. With all the buzz this game is getting and the load of sales it will likely make, I am thinking Techland will have more money and more ability to put more time and effort into a sequel.
