I've learned to ignore review scores to a degree. Some of my favourite games of all time are around 70% on gamerankings and there have been 95% ranking games that I've not liked that much. Hell, I almost didn't buy Persona 3 because a magazine I read gave it something like 68%, but now it's one of my favourite RPGs ever.
I'm not getting Dead Island just because it doesn't seem like my kind of thing but I know my brother is getting it simply because of his obsession with zombie games. He'll probably love it, and the review scores won't make a bit of difference. Just play the game and pretend the reviews don't exist.
The digital release is a debug copy. Pressing the Y key turns on no clip, etc. Pretty funny.
And ouch what? Good score. I've only eyed the review as I'm trying not to know everything about the thing before I play it, but the tone seems quite positive. The words "bloody good time" end it. Everything I've heard about it indicates that it's a cool, entertaining game underneath a whole bunch of flaws. Even the guy behind one of the lowest scores (EG) ultimately found it enjoyable.

I've played Alpha protocol and it scored a 6.5 i think and tbh its one of my favourite games this gen :-/

One of my favorites too. Alpha Protocol is an excellent branching spytalkin game. Personally I didn't particularly mind the action parts of it either. The boss fights were quite heinous though. Especially the guy on the stage. Must've replayed that like 20 times.
Quite reminiscent of when I entered the Malkavian mansion in Bloodlines with my charismatic character. Only difference is that mission was literally impossible. And not just because all my saves got corrupted. 25 hours in.

Ah, the saves would probably have gotten corrupted anyway. Because that game hates me. Did I mention it also crashed on me like once every 30 minutes? I bought a new computer with all new parts. It still crashed every 30 minutes. I think it's cursed.
Testament to the intrinsic quality of the game that I kept playing. Until that one kick in the face. I ain't replaying 25 hours. I hear it gets cruddier (more combat) later on anyway.

Sounds like L4D 1 and 2. :lol: Not really, L4D games were both alot less buggy and alot more polished than dead island. Dead Island must have a lot of bugs because the first six months of L4D had a large amount of problems.
Yeah , i thought would be a serious survival horror game with RPG touch but far from that...
Its again an action oriented game , more or less like dead rising , with RPG elements. So no , no and again no. I pass and going back to Resident Evil : remake.
sigh....once again people just look at the score and dont even look at the review...
The reviewer said like everyone else said the visuals were bad but the game was a blast and a great value for your money..

For the same reason we have handicap ramps... so those with disabilities can get around a little easier. If you can walk youre not supposed to use the ramps.
People should read the review instead of getting aroused by scores. It says it's a very fun sandbox game, but bad graphics and story. Thing is, if you're buying a sandbox zombie game, why care about that. Just buy the game and have fun, great value.

I think people were hoping for a Walking Dead game :P
Looking forward to this game but seeing the 7 almost hurt my feelings a little bit, but after reading the review I still have hope. I will definitely try before I buy, one way or another though.

i wasn't expecting a top notch story or voice acting at all or even amazing graphics....what hooked me was the gameplay and how great the combat looked and it still seems as if they nailed it to me so i should be satisfied
sounds like the game has alot of bugs...but nothing game breaking...so basically it's gonna be like a GTA game in terms of it being a buggy open world sandbox game, so i'm cool with that
I played for a couple hours last night.... I am enjoying it.... the combat is fun. There are some bugs... but im sure they'll be addressed in the coming days/weeks. Also I'm hoping for a strong mod community

i got he 360 version for now to play with my buddies (they don't play on PC) but if i end up liking dead island alot i'll prolly pick it up on a steam sale somewhere down the line so i can use mods...i figure by the time the game is in the $20 range on steam the game should have a nice handful of mods
In a way I'm actually glad. I've not got that much money at the moment and so if there are too many must have games some are going to miss out. This makes one decision easy this weekend. I buy Resistance 3.

yea i figured it would be...just like L4D, soooo much better with actually people (but like you said, fun alone too) so it seems my 360 over PC choice is justified
