Wow, this game looks good. Reviews have been pretty good so far, except Eurogamers 7/10. Looks like a great title that may have shot itself in the foot by releasing at the same time as LBP, Resistance 2, Farcry 2, Fallout 3 etc

Haha Eurogamer gave it a 7/10... They also gave MGS4 a 8/10 and if i remember correctly the reason behind it was because the reviewer didn't understand the story. But you can't bash someones opinion so w/e. Dead Space looks to be a great game, though i'm not much of a survival-horror type it should be a good reminder of how a survival horror game is supposed to feel like.

A) you haven't played Dead Space yet.

B) RE5 isn't out, can you pass the crystall ball.

C) Please think before typing.

BTW, we've barley seen much of RE5 to even judge it, lol. RE4/RE5 were and are Survival Horror games, no matter how you spin it. RE4's enemies were much more horrific and intense, RE4 kept the dark and moody atmostpheres aswell, while adding a much more BETTER and NEEDED camera/gameplay system.

as for your last statement...it is a HORROR game. DO you know the term horror?

RE4's Regenerators > anything the old RE games cooked up, enemies wise. The oldc RE games were NEVER scary, unless you found dark rooms and weird music SCARY.

I dunno if you all saw it but Eurogamer gave it a 7/10.

"None of these criticisms will detract from your enjoyment, provided all you want from a game is the opportunity to repeatedly turn evil monsters into red mush in gorgeous HD detail. Dead Space easily delivers on that promise, but fails to turn its polished production values into something truly memorable over the long haul."

7/10

i havent played dead space but every review of it they have stated it is genuinely scary. so do some research before posting next time

re5 ok fair enough we dont know much about it but FROM WHAT WE HAVE SEEN it looks like a third person shooter action game. until they reveal more we wont know.

and yes you are talking about re4 i know it was scary but this is re5 we are on about and it doesnt look like it will scary IMO

Resident Evil 5 isn't trying to be a survival-horror game, so why would it take notes?

It's blazing a new trail in the horror genre (action-horror) whilst titles like Dead Space muddle about in the pits of derivation.

IGN gave it an 8.5 or something. I'm not looking to buy this game right away, as there are so many other games that are coming out that I don't have the money right now (I just found out that our new baby is going to be a brother to my precious little 21 month old daughter). That being said, Dead Space if definitely on my radar screen and I will be looking carefully at the reviews. Again IGN seemed to like it.

err, the enemies, atmosphere...LMFAO!

you've only seen 1 or 2 levels and the same gameplay footages and already formed a full opinion of what RE5 is?

seriously, i'm done. you hilarious.

and do me a favor and look up the term HORROR!

so you think the enemies and atmosphere make a horror?

so shaun of the dead was a horror movie cos it had zombies???

the atmosphere? re5 has none from what we have seen.

seriesly stop embarrasing yourself and do some research yourself next time

I haven't played RE4 in years but it was definatly horror.. just more action orientated. It's the "shot in the arm" the series needed.. Believe me after playing RE1, 2, 3: Nemesis, Code V, the series needed a wake up from the "scary house" themes..

a guy with a re5 sig.....why am i not suprised

your arguements are weak dude.

you said enemies make a horror so i gave you a movie with zombie enemies and yet its not a horror movie. so you failed.

atmosphere in re5? tell me then what atmosphere? what is lingering around the levels we have seen which makes it scary?

until you can actually answer and prove it your guess is no better than mine

The types of places and creatures that you deal with in the game qualify it a horror game.

Legions of infected villagers with sickles, hammers, chainsaws, and dogs, trying to hunt you down and kill you? Horror. Enormous parasites coming out of your enemy's mouths trying to bite your face off? Horror.

Whether you like it or not, thematically speaking, Resident Evil 5 is a horror game. Horror IS NOT a certain type of gameplay. It is a very wide genre descriptor used to describe games that fall within a certain area in terms of theme.

Go play Ties that Bind and try and come back and tell me that it isn't a horror game simply because the gameplay focus is on action.

Your definition of what qualifies as horror is outdated and narrow. Horror doesn't always have to be set in dark mansions and abandoned facilities, and the gameplay doesn't always have to be survival focused. Action-horror is here, and it's very much a part of the overall horror genre.

my final question, jim.

what classifies Dead Space as a horror title?

take your time, and don't say moody atmostpheres, horrorific creatures/enemies.

Eyezonmii

It tries to scare you? =/ RE4 didn't do anything remotely scary.

Probably so, if Kevin Van Ord does the review. But it matters not, to me, because I disregard GS reviews anyway.

lol, atleast you got schooled. ;)

no you came out with some very vague trash. you did not back up your claims at all.

IMO i still think the game is more action orientated than ever! more than re4.

the game will be good i have no doubt. but if you want a game which scares you in the night then play deadspace simple.

How?

quote these SCARE FACTORS from the previews and reviews..please, you've played it have you?

RE4 didn't do anything? LMFAO!

play RE4, do the maze part, when finding 2 peices of the door statue.

play the parts with the regenerators (most horrific enemie in any RE game, IMO)

wow, just wow! so your saying most of this REAL HORROR in dead space doesn't come from the enemies/creatures and moody astmospehere?

WOW!

Eyezonmii

Why do you have to be so ignorant? RE4 didn't scare me either.. It wasen't a scary game. Here I'll list games that scare me and use them as a reference... Anything with the name Silent Hill in it, Dead Seed, Doom 3, Exmortis (PC Web Game), Clock Tower, Undying, The Suffering, The Call of Cthulu. Now try and compare those to RE4.

you said enemies and atmosphere....wow what an answer you expalined and backed up your points so well didnt you! noble prize for you

i can give you a simple answer to a question but without the evidence to support it, it dont mean squat.

therefore your answer was nothing like jethroz.

Anything with the name Silent Hill in it, Dead Seed, Doom 3, Exmortis (PC Web Game), Clock Tower, Undying, The Suffering, The Call of Cthulu. Now try and compare those to RE4.

umm, never said the game needed to scare you....my point was that RE4 and RE5 are HORROR TITLES. ACTION/survival HORROR, pure and simple.

RE was NEVER scary to begin with. lol

because it horror, doesn't mean it HAS TO SCARE YOU..lol

if someone gives you a two word answer you dont expect much from it.

you said enemies and atmosphere....wow what an answer you expalined and backed up your points so well didnt you! noble prize for you

i can give you a simple answer to a question but without the evidence to support it, it dont mean squat.

therefore your answer was nothing like jethroz.

YES you were on the right line BUT without support its as good as none

:| back what up? because you didn't know the meaning of HORROR? i even posted a link telling you what it meant, which backed up my statement, of the horrific enemies.

what did you want, for me to right a book? its common sense.

you just didn't know what HORROR mean't, sadley.

don't 180 the convo, because you got owned, HARD!

and don't take my ignorant, while FACT statments and make up excuses, because they were right, the other guy just said it in a more sensible manner.

gsus. i'm done...you've been school'd mate.

and you didn't answer my question jim

what classifies Dead Space as a horror title?

take your time, and don't say moody atmostpheres, horrorific creatures/enemies.

wonder why:roll:

How?

quote these SCARE FACTORS from the previews and reviews..please, you've played it have you?

RE4 didn't do anything? LMFAO!

play RE4, do the maze part, when finding 2 peices of the door statue.

play the parts with the regenerators (most horrific enemie in any RE game, IMO)

Eyezonmii

you said it had scare factors that means you thought it was scary.. Spin that..

It has Shadows where as RE4 didn't. That in it self is scary.

the location. its set on a deserted space station in the middle of space which eeriely loses communication and when the crew come on board they find its been ransacked by a bunch of monsters/mutants.

the gameplay. its a claustrophobic style where you are confined to small spaces etc.

there you go mate. enjoy.

and if you add the enemies and atmosphere which is far greater than being in a sunlight town of africa.....its pretty obvious

I think the game looks phenomenal and I'm going to buy it on the 24th, directly. The reviews so far are lolworthy. IGN's video review complain about small things like "being able to stomp on things that's floating a little above your foot". So far the game has gotten scores around 7-9.5 but I'm thinking it might getting lower votes so you'll notice the bigger games coming out easier. Who knows; MS might pay IGN to give out low scores? :P
