There is no grind, you just use your scavenger bot and he gets your resources.... This is just for lazy folks who want instant gratifacation. Played the game tons, I would know.

Shielder7

Why don't I believe people who say this? Oh I know because EA maybe greedy %^&$ but they're not stupid or to say the least not stupid enough to implement a system and charge 5$ when you can unlock it yourself for free with 5 mins of game play/grinding. That just doesn't make sense, than again apologetic's never make much sense.

They modeled this after FTP games, which push you to buy microtransactions because it's the only way they can make money. If you think this system will have no effect on the game or games to come you're delusional. Like I said it doesn't take a genius to see where this is headed, and their excuse for it blaming the iphone gamers is ridiculous.

It's not a matter of grinding just pacing.

The system doesn't bother because I won't use it. And I won't buy a game where paying microtrasanctions are necessary to enoy it fully...I don't think Dead Space 3 is one of those games.

seanmcloughlin

You say that now but soon you'll be paying to 1.50$ to respawn or waiting 10mins and you still have people defending it by saying "You don't have to pay you can just wait" and ""Just don't suck so bad"

Then don't buy the games that do that, it's simple. Like Zeviander said, vote with your wallet on the subject. Crying about it here, even if you did it all day for a year, won't change it one tiny iota. Affecting their sales on the other hand, will.

I rest my case. You get people defending anything even when you're bending over and saying "Thank you EA can I have another"

My guess is the only reason they added MP to DS2 and 3 is so they could make money on the passes. LustForSoul

There will be no co-op for people planning to buy Dead Space 3 used...unles you buy an online pass. This kind of stuff doesn't bother me though because I don't buy used games. If I don't want to pay full price I wait for a price drop.

Well Dead Space and Mass Effect are the only two franchises I have bought games from that were published by EA. If you are going to start boycotting massive companies like EA/Capcom/Square Enix then prepare to miss out some really good games. I don't care enough to boycott...

Same here, there's enough games to play that I didn't want at full price a year ago or more.

[QUOTE="Shielder7"] No I would prefer it if they wouldn't try to charge me for thing I shouldn't have to pay for. As far as I'm concerned if it's on the disk it's mine. You wanted to know the difference I told it to you , you're not downloading content so technically it's not DLC, nor was any work put into it it cost them nothing and they're charging you for it, how can people not be upset about this? You think this is going to stop here with a little more grind if you don't want to pay again? You really think EA is above what Square Enix did with Final Fantasy All the Bravest, where they charged you to respawn? Think again this is just the beginning. Shielder7

And we'll cross that hypothetical bridge when we get to it.

Video games are a luxury. If a video game company decides to charge extra for a few nonessential items, they have every right to do so. It's not like EA is a company that denies a sick child health coverage or kicks a family out of their home.

If the microtransaction is only for SP, there's no need to freak out over it. Its up to the people themselves if they want to unlock things faster, EA isn't holding a gun to their heads.

RoccoHout
The concern is the effect monetization of systems like these have on game design. I do not care for the idea, actually, I hate it. Suddenly game design is less about what'd make for a better game and more about the business model and manipulating people into throwing coins into a revenue stream. Let's just nip that in the bud before it has the chance to pollute more than necessary.

I bet people said the same thing about story DLC too...now it is standard. You are an ant fighting a giant. Not trying be offend you, but nothing is going to change.

Some can't seem to grasp that while this is hobby/passion/artform to gamers it is business to "some" of the people producing the games...and nothing more. Unfortunately many of those that only care about the bottom line run the major players.

It's not all bad. EA cares about the rights of LGBT..F..Y? I'm forgetting some letter there right? But EA cares about the rights of those people as well. So there's that. And for what it's worth they're also tearing Tim Langdell a new one. And giving financial support to arms manufacturers. ...wait, that's bad.

In a statment of why these microtransactions were introduced Viscerals John Calhoun stated.

"Theres a lot of players out there, especially players coming from mobile games, who are accustomed to micro-transactions. Theyre like I need this now, I want this now. They need instant gratification. So we included that option in order to attract those players, so that if theyre 5000 Tungsten short of this upgrade, they can have it."

So aperantly the reason that we have to pay for these microtransactions is because of these mobile gamers:roll:

For FTP games it makes sense, the only way they can make money is microtransactions but for a retail game it's ludicrous and people who are defending it are insane.

[QUOTE="McStrongfast"]The concern is the effect monetization of systems like these have on game design. I do not care for the idea, actually, I hate it. Suddenly game design is less about what'd make for a better game and more about the business model and manipulating people into throwing coins into a revenue stream. Let's just nip that in the bud before it has the chance to pollute more than necessary.Cherokee_Jack

I'm pushing back.

This latest fad has seen great success in the mobile and F2P area and has trained a large group of people that this is the way games are made. The difference being of course that these are $60 games they're trying to hook this revenue stream up to. They're essentially trying to convert us. Us willing to pay that much for a single game.

It is worrying that they're looking in that direction. Either it's greed they figure they can get away with, or it's them looking at their options and deciding that this game is a viable investment only if they do this. I hope it's greed. I don't want these games to go away or get turned into these part cynical, psychological manipulation tools.

It's just the latest fad in the boardroom. Nothing we haven't seen before in different incarnations, nothing we won't keep seeing until the end of time. If it really does start to ruin gaming, consumers will push back.

Mostly "consumers" means us, of course, but if we weren't important they would have long ago stopped spending millions upon millions on games we like.

What worries me is that they don't even see this as greed, but as something we are asking them for. That is where it really goes wrong for me.

Who will be dumb enough to pay for that? Its like paying real money to cheat lol, get something in a game for doing nothing. So why buy a game? Don't people buy games to play them? For the challenge? Well... i guess not nowadays :?

[QUOTE="Miketheman83"]You don't have to buy them dude. They are optional. Options are good.Sushiglutton
You have the option to choose between slow grinding or to upgrade your bot. This is dumb. I choose to not buy the game at all.

The problem is not what you can buy instead of farming. The problem is what it implies.

Between this and Capcoms "DLC"s, the industry is going to a dark side online gamers will suffer.

Ugh lately I bought Sleepy Dogs with all DLC included for very little money. Later realizing that the DLC was basically shortcuts to items you could earn through the game. Now I don't even feel like playing through it anymore. It's like having a cheatmode activated. Feels all wrong.
I play for 15 minutes and got like 5 levels worth of cops/triat points plus a superman sword and AR. It murders the game experience that the stuff is already available to me. Haven't found an option to disable the DLC.

Just saying, not everyone expects the DLC to be like that. If it had crossed my mind that paid DLC could actually hurt my game experience, I would have of course been careful. Oh and then they still have the audacity to remind me I can buy DLC in the power menu's. **** you DLC!

It's like I suddenly have to be very careful every time I buy a game now.
-Is this a good version of the game.
-Is the review actually of this version of the game or is it a fake.
-Is there significant DLC and how much does that add up.
-Will there be significant DLC in the future that I will want in the game before I play it.
-Does some of the DLC **** up my game.
-What store gives me something good with a pre-order.

It's like the gaming companies are trying to become the next generation of phone companies.

Hopefully, its only for the multiplayer.
