If this were last year I'd say this is a no brainer, but at this point you may as well wait for them to announce the 4000 series because the 4080 will probably be comparable in performance or better, for less.

Just buy a 6900xt for $700~ or 6800xt for $600~, or wait for next gen GPUs.

Now that I'm on a 175hz monitor, I might upgrade my 3080 with a 4080 or 7800xt and sell it. I want to reach as close to that that 175 in as many AAA games as possible.

I would avoid paying out such money for the top end cards right now. They will only get cheaper and once the next series of cards hit soon, there will be much better performers at the same cost.

I can't imagine paying $1200+ for a GPU ... that's the price I paid for a new Browning rifle. >.>

I remember being shocked back in 2008 when I paid $500 for a GTX 480. Granted, I was a beginning college student back then so... maybe that is why.

@robert_sparkes:

You don't have to buy a top end GPU to have a good gaming PC.

I would rather spend $1200 on a GPU over a rifle. I don't hunt or go to the shooting range, but I make good use of my GPU everyday. Anyway, I opted for the 3080 at MSRP ($699) during launch. I did buy the 2080 Ti at launch for $1199. It was a ripoff for sure, but it was the only option available that was better than my old 1080 Ti. I made the move to ultrawide at the time and didn't want to take a performance hit. Desperate times call for desperate measures. hehe :)

Given how close the new GPU launch is (and assuming I currently did not have a 30 series card), no I would not go for that now personally. It is a good card but for the price, you can get almost as much performance (but save quite a bit of $$) by going with a 3080 (or even a 3080ti, seems like those are getting discounted heavily too now). Wow how the tables have turned, just a few months ago these card were hard to find, hell I paid more than that for my 3080Ti less than 12 months ago (granted I sold my 3070 FE for almost the same price as I paid for 3080 Ti, otherwise would not have gone 3080Ti, that is far too much money just for a GPU)

@goldenelementxl Congrats on the card and more importantly on the Steam Deck (since those are still tough af to get)!

Get it. I had a chance to get a 2080ti two years ago and decided to wait for the new cards only to not find any and give up. You’re basing on the chance that you could get one of the newer cards and at msrp inthe near future.

Something is better than nothing. It’s still a really good card.

Well, right now my laptop/consoles gets much more usage than my desktop due to dad duties. So my nice gaming rig is sadly collecting dust. The last decade has been wild in the PC hardware sphere between shortages and huge variance in pricing.

My GPU budget limit is $800 and below. I never paid over that limit and as @BassMan stated, you don't need a state-of-the-art GPU and that's only for those who have Ultrawide/4K monitors and since I have 1440p/165hz monitor, a mid-range GPU such as the 70 series (RTX 3070 Ti) is more adequate for the job that won't kill the wallet.

I don't see myself grabbing those upcoming 4000 series anytime soon.

@davillain: I think $800 is relatively reasonable now, especially with inflation and all that shenanigans.
