[QUOTE="MBirdy88"][QUOTE="RyanShazam"]I feel for you. I always see hermits saying that you can play most PC games on High setting with a $400 computer and what not. I bought a $1000 gaming rig from newegg 2 years ago and I can't play most games on high setting without lag or these strange lines running through my screen. Hermits are very misleading IMO. I feel that if you bought an up to date PC you should be able to play a game from 2007 no problem. Unfortunately that is not true.RyanShazam
That is down to your inability/lack of knowledge, not to us "misleading" you. 2 years ago and can't play games on high? you bought wrong, simple as. there has been no large jump graphically in ages... as for lines down the screen? your parts have warranty .... youve been unlucky, hows that our fault. I guess consolites are misleading since my 360 slim has shut down due to heat a few times as well

I actually went into the PC gaming forum and asked what a good prebiotic gaming rig would be and had some people recommend the one I bought.

What is it? Link it.

What's your specs? Unfortunately not all PC's are created equal and its very easy to buy a machine for too much money that was never intended to game on.

If you spent a grand your PC should rock, I fear its not hermits fault you bought a dud.

I can't get the actuall specs right now but it was an IBuyPower rig from Newegg. I went into the PC forums and had some OC fans recommend some prebuilt rigs and choose what I though would be best out of the ones recomended.

I'm running on my IPhone right now. Last time I checked they didn't sell it anymore since I did buy it two years ago. When I get a chance I will list the specs for you.

A custom built is always the best choice, I would never trust pre-builtfor PC gaming.

The only reason i ask is when i was buying a laptop on newegg saw all these laptops promising crap with integrated cards, so waiting for a while until a decent one became available on sale without some sh!tty "HD card" in it. Its not a powerhouse but can run most games at high (haven't tried any super high end games on it, but have had no trouble with anything on it at all.... except FONV)

There's the problem. Let me explain the numbering system here to help you out a little bit.

It's the second-to-last number you need to be looking at (the 5 in this case). 5 is exactly what is sounds like...mid-range. Not powerful, not exactly weak, but just-so.

For gaming you really want to be looking at 7+.

Drop a new video card in there and you'll be fine for a bit yet.

Think I have that same monitor :P In all honesty you really shouldn't be having too many problems with that from what I can see (I'm no expert mind). Have you updated your drivers?

PC's give tons of problems, i only use it to go on the internet, that's what it does best. But gaming should be done on consoles.

So if i drop like 150-200 on a new video card I should be prime? Should I stick with Radeon or could I get something else?

That card should be able to cope with most games fine though, outside of some of the most demanding.

If you're okay with turning some options down, sure. I'm taking it he wasn't to max as much as he reasonably can.

In my opinion, even as of a year ago, if you payed more than 600 for that rig, you overpayed.

My philosophy has always been, if you arn't building it yourself, you've already overpayed.
I strongly suggest to anyone that is thinking of joining the PC gaming community, they really do some research and buy smart. PC gaming HAS really been getting easier as years go by, and there's no reason you can't build a smart and inexpensive rig yourself that might cost double what a console might cost, but can make it very cheap to upgrade if needed, and still provide an ample gaming experience.
Some might say I build for overkill... and in my poor student eyes, I don't even think I spend that much to keep my rig up to date.

RyanShazam

You could. Personally, if I had your rig I'd throw a bit more into it and pick up a 7870, you'll be set even after the new consoles come out and probably well into the mid-game of next gen.

I prefer Radeon myself because no one beats ATI/AMDs whites. nVidia cards have always seemed to have colors that are too soft for me.

That's the beauty of PC gaming my friend, even outside of the in-game graphics settings, by way of easy file tweaks you can make games even less demanding.

I thought I read where he said most games run fine. Maybe I'm mistaken on that. If he's having trouble with most games, I'd be looking at drivers and background processes.

I played The Witcher on High with lag and Screen Tear

I played World in Conflict on Max with lag.

Jeeze, I played WiC on my old 3870 way back when in DX9 mode and didn't have any issues.

You said you had lines in the screen. Do they show up on screenshots? Yes/no would tell me a lot.

I thought I read where he said most games run fine. Maybe I'm mistaken on that. If he's having trouble with most games, I'd be looking at drivers and background processes.

They mainly happen during cutscenes or when something intense is happening on screen.

Vertical or horizontal? If horizontal, it's most likely screen tearing. If verticle, you have problems.

Now, another thing that can cause games to lag (and artifact) is heat. Have you cleaned the inside of your PC recently? Have you taken the video card out and cleaned the intake and heatsink on it? (Hold the fan in place if you're spraying air down it to clean it out, a spinning fan will produce an electric current that could damage the card). Have you used any utility to check your running temps?

Something else I would suggest is uninstalling that bloatware CCC and installing http://www.radeonpro.info/en-US/ instead.

[QUOTE="blue_hazy_basic"][QUOTE="RyanShazam"] I'm running on my IPhone right now. Last time I checked they didn't sell it anymore since I did buy it two years ago. When I get a chance I will list the specs for you.RyanShazam

This is my set up.

No freaking way is that worth 1k, the cpu and gpu alone are the problem.

It's still overpriced even at the time due to being a prebuilt.

[QUOTE="4dr1el"]

and thats exactly what I do. I always unplug my electronic devices when I'm not using them.

And breaking game discs? Only if you dont know how to treat your stuff. I've more then 100 discs (including CD, DVD, Blu-ray) and NEVER had a disc broken on me. And what do you do when you feel to take those steam games to a friends house? Thats right. You cant!

4dr1el

I've never broken a game disc myself, but my nephews have broke more than a few! Kids.

And I don't have to TAKE my Steam games to a friends house, all I have to do is log onto my Steam account on his PC and there they are, cloud saves and everything!

Physical media...pffftt....the 20th Century is so 13 years ago.

Yeah, but your friends still has to install the game no? so thats another inconvenience right there. I know some console games require instalation, especially on PS3 but not all as in the case of all PC games. A game like Uncharted or CoD and, imo, the best games to play split screen on consoles, are just plug and play and do not require any instalation at all

Dont lie, every ps3 game I have tried to play went through a 2 hour update to patch the damned things.

I've never had that kind of trouble from my 360. Just sayin'.El_Zo1212o
And I've never bought a PC with a 48% failure rate at launch.

Why are you trying to play on high again? Play on medium or low. My god. You shouldn't even be PC gaming with complaining like this.

That 48% means nothing to me since the only 360 that ever failed on me I didn't pay for(a hand me down arcade console from my brother). My other 2 360's may have hiccupped here or there, but they never failed on me entirely. Now I wonder- have you ever had a gaming rig that went 7 years without needing a single hardware upgrade and could still play the newest games without a hitch?

Your opinion about the failure rate is not relevant, point is that the hardware is god awful and has a much higher failure rate then PC.

Plus, a gaming PC only needs to be upgraded if you want to take advantage of the better PC graphics. You could build a good system in 2006, and not upgrade it, and it would run the newest games fine.. on graphics settings that looked like the consoles.. As for the OP, I don't know what to say about the CD Key problem with GRAW. Never played that game, and never had a similar problem with anything else.

Also.

P.S: for some reason, a factory built PC from 2011 can't run a game from 2007 smoothly. I was grossly misinformed as to the superiority of the PC as a gaming platform.El_Zo1212o

"Factory built PC from 2011" doesn't say anything about its specs. You can buy a "factory built PC" right now, that has literally no graphics card, but integrated MOBO graphics, and yeah, you can't expect a system like that to run pretty much anything less than 10 years old, especially anything that has any real lighting/shadow/particle effects. But, the exact same system with even a cheap video card would do much much better.

Considering your newest games are limited and pretty much butt ugly at this point I think its safe to say that claiming you have had a device for 7 years wouldnt be "ownage" against us on the account of we like to keep up to date, not cheaply play the same low res garbage for years later.

My PC is much more powerful than the 360. In a 100 years time it will still be more powerful (if it hasn't been smashed to pieces by then). Not upgrading your computer doesn't make it get worse, it just won't get any better.

The 360 will remain weak and will never get any better. With the PC you can upgrade it, with a console you have to buy a new one.
