Japan isn't racist per se, but it does have very strong anti-foreigner sentiments.

They hate the Chinese, for example.

percech

And Italians hate Jews,Jews hate Italians,Japanese hate Koreans,Koreans hate Japanese,Irish hate Italians,Italians hate Irish,Indians hate Pakistanis,Pakistanis hate Indians,Whites hate Blacks,Blacks hate Whites,North Korea hates South Korea,South Korea hates North Korea,Chinese hate Japanese,Japanese hate Chinese and etc.

So I don't really see your point.

Are you kidding me? I already said the severity varies from country to country. Japan is a lot more racist than the US, for example. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Japan REALLY doesn't like foreigners living in their country. America on the other hand welcomes foreigners with open arms.

They're not more racist, they just hate foreigners.

The Japanese hate the Chinese just as much as they hate Americans...they're not biased towards any particular race.

Racial discrimination (racism) implies that you like characteristics of a group of ethnicities (Caucasian, Latino, African, Asian, etc.) more than another.

Unless you're referring to racism as ethnicity discrimination, I don't see the problem with my argument.

You can't cut it down like that. Them not liking foreigners can be based on the same logic and would only create racial tensions. Nobody wants to tour in Japan because of this. This issue isn't as dry as your definition of racism.

They love when foreigners visit and bring money to Japan's economy.

They even love it when students stay in Japan for 6 months on an extended study.

But when you LIVE THERE FULL TIME anywhere but a huge city and attempt to be "one of them," that's where you run into problems.

It's very true. What are you trying to defend here? Japan can do no wrong because they make your favorite video game system? Enjoy: http://www.debito.org/roguesgallery.html

You can't generalize based on a few examples, that's a fallacy. I can google "racism in the US" and find even more examples, statistics and testimonies than that of racism but that doesn't mean the country US is racist just that some people are racist or don't like other cultures like on any other country.

No you can't. Statistics and stereotypes don't come out of thin air. Japan is one of the least friendliest tourist destinations. Stop defending a country you know next to next about, and stop attacking the country you live.

You should really know what you're talking about before talking. It is a good advice otherwise you sound like you have no clue of what you're talking about like right now. 1st wrong assumption: I'm not american 2nd wrong assumption: I've been to Japan as a tourist and loved it, friendliest people I've known. I have also non-japanese friends living there one married to a japanese woman and two half japanese kids and they love it. 3rd wrong assumption: Japan is not racist Now, three wrongs don't make a right so, in conclusion, you're wrong.

1...you still haven't mentioned where you live. 2...you little experience doesn't equate to an actual and REAL problem. You are one person, so what? Am I suppose to applaud that modern society has a little bit of friendly and accepting people? 3...You didn't prove a single thing to give your argument any weight.

1. I'm from Costa Rica what difference does it make? We have racist people here too 2. My little experience? and what is YOUR experience? a link to a webpage? 3. If you're going to attack my argument for lacking weight then your argument just flew into space due to its anti-gravitational pull.

whats funny is that it has maintained 1200-1500 sales for the past 3-4 years...it doesn't seem to be climbing or going down...Its just always been that small amount of sales outside of the big releases that bump it up to 30k or so...

Its not dying its not dead it just is small.

yeah i think the country is definitely biased, if i was MS i would pull out. They are ungrateful to the 360.

MSgamer4lyfe

pretty hefty words there man. I'd be carefull.

i do believe that, its ok for them to be biased, but why shouldnt we think differently? MS has tried to cater to the japanese market but I dont think they like an american console. Its all good, just pull out and call it a day.

considering how a lot of Japanese developers supported it and Namco even made Ace combat 6 an exclusive (personally as a huge fan and owner i think this was a silly decision instead of a multiplat) i wouldnt say.

MS has just mishandled the Japanese market full stop and the fact it has become far more handheld centric doesnt help either. If Japanese people were so biased as you claim why would American films, musicians and the odd game top the charts aswell as consumer items like iPod and windows continually being strong sellers aswell as there are other non american products on the market.

Just think about it for a minute, instead of posting some fanboy riddled nonsense.

That guy Minuteman is a total ignorant idiot. People like him regardless of race are extremely delusional. He goes on about how the other dude should go back to his own country to where he and his ancestors came from, but yet he refuses to acknowledge that he's own background is probably mostly European. It's like the Aryan brotherhood leaders hating on Jews but supposely they have a Jewish background. That in result, is direct self hating and also a contradiction. It's anyone's country for people that live in the USA legally.

This.

Besides M$ has shown that they don't really need a super-strong showing in Japan to be successful. Hopefully thier plans for that market remain realistic and they don't go on a whole "We'd better mover 30 million units next gen or we're pulling out!" rampage. I'd like to see M$ start some game studios over there (or at least buy one) since it'll maybe add a little bit of variety to thier worldwide offerings.

I keep seeing this pop-up from posters and it begs the question.. why? What else could M$ have possibly done to cater to the Japanese market? It had more Japanese centric RPG's (at one point), Japanese centric titles available, a cheaper price point, and it fixed all of the aesthetic atrocities that was the original XBox... and yet it still sold poorly (1.5 mil) compared to the other two.

Exactly. Western products never do well in the Far East. They ARE xenophobic. That's not to say they burn effigies of white people or anything, they are just cautious of other cultures.

They even shun things from countries closer to home; e.g. when Microsoft set up Xbox 360 demos stands in shops, they use Samsung TVs. In Japan, it's no different except they had to cover up the Samsung logo because it's a Korean brand.

MS can push and push it'sa lost cause in my eyes. They should delegate all the resources they save from pulling out of Japan elsewhere, instead of effectively flushing it down the toilet.

^ There are some benefits to having at least a presence in Japan, though. Yeah, the sales are abysmal, but at least they have a foothold that allows them to get in with Japanese devs, tech companies, press, etc. The expectations for the market just have to be lowered, is all.

The 360 in JP was on life support from birth but no matter how much money and resources MS used to get them to buy, they just refused thus far and I don't see that changing. :?

To people saying that 360 had tons of JRPG/Japanese devsupport - probably not as much you think.

I wouldn't be surprised if only 10% of Japanese games are released stateside. Just looking at the weekly charts posted by charizard, you'd see 10-15 titles which has no NA/EU release.

The only racism I'm seeing here is coming from you. Indicting a whole people for the actions of a few is stereotyping and racist. The South is still a very racist area. Just because there aren't black or white only water fountains or bathrooms anymore doesn't mean the sentiment doesn't still exist. Only the law is keeping those signs from going back up. How would you like it though if tourists leave this country telling everyone that Americans are racist because of their experience with some ignorant red neck? I live in Chicago, the most segregated city in the country. Tourists could leave here with a bad impression of America because of the blatant separation of our races and cultural groups. And what about your precious Bayern? Despite the strict laws that have been put in place post WWII, a lot of Germans still fear foreigners and other races. But is it fair to criticize all the German people? Racism can be found anywhere. But when you call out an entire nation as being racist, guess what? That itself is racist.

The Japanese will buy Western stuff that have no real competition for such as MS OSes, Apple products, military hardware...... They have plenty of competition for the XBox 360. They tend to favor products from home whenever possible.

It's just like Koreans and Hyundai. The Excel was a pretty crappy car. Yet, many Koreans bought them in droves.

Note: Change batteries in wireless keyboard.

Is it me or did the lady who did the article on Destructoid seem kinda angry ?sakura_Ex

That's what I was thinking.

She went from XBOX360 is dying in Japan to... "Japan sucks at making games and their economy is collapsing anyway". I guess she's just mad that XBOX didn't do well in Japan.
