Defending against the Wii haters in one thread.

These are a few of the most common arguments against the Wii I've seen lately on the forums. Rather than post in each one of their threads I've decided to merge all the threads in one large ball of hatred.

The 360 beats the Wii in software sales!

The 360 has been out a year longer and as a result has a stronger software library that system owners have spent an extra year playing and purchasing their games. To say that Wii owners will never buy any games for their console that purely plays video games is blind hope and speculation.

But sales don't matter!!!

Just like they didn't matter 1 year ago when the 360 was on top and lemmings were claiming that the console war was over because the 360 had sold 12 million units. And don't use the software sales only matter, because casuals buy software as well. (Madden, 50 cent bulletproof, Halo)

The Wii is just a fad!

All consoles are fads, in 5 years when the tech becomes outdated the console is replaced with a new fad. As sales are showing, the Wii is showing no signs of slowing down, any speculation is again, blind hope. If you want to reference Japan sales readthis first.

The Wii isn't worth $250 and Nintendo doesn't deserve their success!

This argument makes me sad, as fanboys have literally turned communist in an attempt to defend their respective systems. In a capitalist world, market dictates value. If people are willing to pay $250 dollars for it, then it is worth $250. If you have a problem with companies overcharging for goods and services go complain to Microsoft who is one of the worlds richest companies for selling an operating system that costs much more to buy then to produce.

Nintendo doesn't care about "hardcore" gamers anymore!

Lets look at how many games Nintendo themselves have planned to release this year.

Games designed for the traditional gamer market:

SSBB, MP3, SMG, BWii, Fire Emblem, Super Paper Mario, Mario Kart Wii, Mario Strikers Charged

vs. Games designed purely for the casual audience:

WarioWare, Brain Age, Links Crossbow training, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Mario Party

As you can see, Nintendo themselves have focused the majority of their development on games for our audience. Whether you like the games is irrelevant to the argument.

But I bought a Nintendo system so I could play 3rd party games!

The Wii is kiddy!

Just because a game doesn't contain gratuitous amounts of gore in it doesn't mean the game is meant for children. They are games that you can play in your living room in front of your family, aka family friendly. If you buy games based on the content rating, you are part of the problem.

None of this matters, the PC beats every other system in sales and games.

4/7 games you listed are Mario games and only one of them is actual Mario. It's by far and away the most overplayed and tired franchise in the history of gaming. I absolutely despise Mario now b/c of the millions of spin-offs compared to the actual games that they released. Nintendo IMO have ruined the Mario name. It could've been a franchise that whenever people hear it's name, they think of the next GOTY (aka Zelda, Metroid prime, Halo, HL), but it's now a franchise that whenever people hear it's name they say, what's the spin-off now?

Sorry for the rant. I just hate Mario so much now. And to think the first game I ever played was super Mario.

EDIT: To stay relevant to the topic, none of those are my main complaint with the wii. My main complaint is multiplats. Every gen, I am always a one console man b/c two or more is simply too expensive and too much to maintain (I'm not that hardcore). So for the console I buy, I want to be able to play the most quality titles I possibly can. The best 3rd party titles every gen usually are multiplats b/c 3rd parties release their best games on multiple consoles for the most profits. The wii is missing so many multiplats it's not even funny. When I can't play Army of Two, Assassins' Creed, CoD4, GTA IV, Half Life: the Orange Box, RE5, Fallout 3, UT3 on a certain console, it sadly gets crossed off my list. Shame b/c if wii had some multiplats, I'd buy it in an instant. Cheap is my friend.

And to a lesser extent, I also think wii's online is by far the worst of this gen's consoles.

None of that relates to me and I still don't like my Wii. I don't care who sells how much and when either, sales are important but they don't stand for anything.

As long as the core game is enjoyable I could care less who they slap on as the mascot.

i do not own ANY of the 3 systems, and i plan on owning a Wii and a 360 (i already have a PSP and a PC capable of playing bioshock with medium settings), i have never hyped PS3, 360 nor the Wii, all i want to say is.... cant we just forget all this and enjoy our games? really i dont give a damn if the Wii is or isnt a fad, i want one and thats it, there is only one sale that matters to me, mine and thats it.stika

We put up with lemmings gloating about how their console was on top because it had the most sales, now it's our turn to gloat. :)

I have a Wii and it is okay. The kids love it. But I guess I am hardcore because I think the PS3 has better games and it is not so hot right now.

You can't tell me that that console doesn't sell because of all the kids who demand it. People in my demographic think it is okay but nothing to write home about.

yeah i know, when i get in the wars, i bash any of the consoles or games and companys when i feel they deserve to, but i also praise the same consoles, games and companys when they deserve it, i just try to be neutral

Wii is great. When Burglars try to steal your TV, the layers of dust on the Wii come up in the air as a protective shield that makes the burglar sneeze him self to death. I have two of them they are awesome:P

The PSP has the same kind of functionality built in, but it's portability makes it a portable protector for anywhere in the house.

Actually most of your points are okay. Not much to argue. My main complaint would be...

1. I still think the games are kiddy (or at least, too high a percentage of them).

2. The games you mentioned for the "traditional" gamer market. I don't think those games are so traditional anymore.

I would not buy SSBB, SMG, SPM, Mario Kart, or Mario Strikers. I guess I could have just said "anything with Mario in the title". The other two games I don't know what they are, but I am 95% certain that If I look them up, I won't like them.

A very good point as well.

I won't even buy xbox games anymore that don't have online multiplayer. That means a rental for Bioshock and Assassins Creed when I finally get my 360 in November.

MS confirmed that theres only 11 million sold.. or 6 million actually bought and the other part is jus new units for RROD ones.

Soul Calibur doesnt have blood and its not kiddy. LoZ isnt kiddy and it doesn have blood. xD! lemmings been saying sales dont matter when PS2 was beating it at launch and up until now xD
