yes it will sure suck for them even if they made a nice profit and recover several times their initial investment. Why should they care about profit, they should just moan about how much sales ther lost  Thankfully Stardock knows better than that and they don't go after the bird in the bush[QUOTE="naval"][QUOTE="robflores370"]Lol, just because some random poster on teh internets says its irrelevant, it automatically becomes so. Spin it, ignore it, deny it all you want....facts are the pirates are outnumbering the legitimate customers on this particular game 5 to 1. It may not be shocking to you, but I'm sure it sucks for those who work hard to develop this game.robflores370
Well, it does suck because they probably could've made much more. Furthermore while they thought they were doing their legitmate customers a favor by not using DRM, they actually hurt them because their experience was ruined by pirates. Oh well, to each their own, have fun basking in your denial.
once again, "how much they could have made" if only they had a crystal ball [QUOTE="robflores370"][QUOTE="naval"] yes it will sure suck for them even if they made a nice profit and recover several times their initial investment. Notice the little 'if' there ?
Solution: Don't allow people with pirated copies to register and play online.
Simple.foxhound_fox
People cant play online, but they can register an account and ATTEMPT to connect (it iwll tell them they cant play online). But yesterday there was so many illegal copies trying to get online that it messed somethings up.
Let me make this clear though... there is no way to play online with a cracked copy... you can ATTEMPT to connect, but it wont let you. All those numbers are from people who ATTEMPTED to connect online.

Oh really? Straight from Stardock's mouth: "It's not that we don't think piracy is massive," Wardell wrote in a forum post on Monday. "We just aren't convinced that it results in that many lost sales. Or more to the point, we don't think intrusive, obnoxious copy protection will result in more sales than we lose from people who don't want to mess with it." "We aren't blaming piracy for the fact that the day 0 multiplayer experience absolutely sucked," he stressed in a later message. Stardock simply wasn't prepared for the influx. "The roughly 120,000 users that weren't running legitimate copies of the game weren't online playing multiplayer or anything," Wardell explained.People cant play online, but they can register an account and ATTEMPT to connect (it iwll tell them they cant play online). I guess yesterday people kept TRYING to connect illegally over and over, which wouldnt be a problem if it was jsut a few people trying to connect, but i guess a few thousand where tryign to log in at the same time and thats what casued the issues.
Anyways, thats what ive read up on teh situation on there website.
Even if they charged $5.00 the piracy rate will still be bad.Piracy at its best, illegal copies out number the legal ones 5-1. Damn that's pretty bad, sucks for the developers, although maybe imo they should have charged $30 for the game, not $40 (too much for what they are offering) and also release a demo if they wanted to improve sales of legal copies, oh well I guess that's why there is console gaming, to stop this piracy, oh wait lol.

Capcom is seriously targeting the pc? You mean as in delayed ports to ensure console sales have been exhausted before selling on the pc?[QUOTE="AnnoyedDragon"]
That's why previously console orientated companies like Capcom are now seriously targeting the piracy ravaged PC.
Oh look at that, developers on both platforms are gearing to the other side to increase the profitability of their products, it's almost like piracy plays no part in their decisions. dc337
Piracy does play a part in their decisions, there are executives on record stating that it has. There has been a clear trend this gen for large scale pc developers to go multiplat and piracy has been cited as a major factor.
But I can tell you prefer to live in denial of the pc piracy problem. Thankfully you're not in charge of a video game company, you probably would have bankrupted it by now with your deluded views.
The only reason Capcom ports their games is because of the Xbox 360. I doubt Capcom cares too much about the PC and their games surely sell poorly.what new IPs ? care to name any rts -- that too us only sales where pc gaming is not very popular ? remember most PC games don't sell a lot on the first day but they do over time PC games not popular in the USA? The country has the second highest amount of WoW players with Asia having the most. For a developer the first month of sales or first week is the most important. Who wants to wait years for a game to make any money especially when the price of Pc games tank within weeks.[QUOTE="CreepyBacon"] The fact is: 18k in one day is lousey compared to other new IPs and no matter how much you spin it they would of loved more than they got. Call it about 120k more than they got. naval
Asia doesn't have the most WoW players if you discount gold farmers. I don't think they care for game, just the saps that will buy video game currency using real money.RedFactionFanAsia has the most wow subscribers. At least twice as many as North America. That's what blizzard said.
In response to the people criticising my Capcom comment, or any other developer becoming more active on PC, perhaps you should take a closer look at these games.
Lost Planet and Devil May Cry 4 were enhanced above the console versions, The Last Remnant PC was superior to the 360 version. These aren't simple cut and paste ports for post release milking, effort was put into them.
A PC developer goes cross platform and the platform is dying, a console developer goes cross platform and no one takes note, sheesh.

Sims sold around 350K on first day and see where it's now, EA devoted a who division to it once. But I was never claiming to compare these games, I just took and extreme example to show how profitable things can beJamex1987
My point was long terms sales are always good profit for studios and that's why they keep selling those . Apparently long term sales were pretty profitable for stardock too and that's why they were able to open a new gaming studio ( yes opening sales of sims were just decent and for Galactic civlizations it was probably much lesser than Demigod).
3. **** pirates. If you aren't sure just don't buy it until a demo comes, simple as that.Vaasman
