For me it is a tie between this and The Witcher.

I freaking loved The Witcher. I haven't played DS so my vote goes to The Witcher, closely followed by Dragon Age.
My main gripe with Dragon age was this voice inside me saying "Look at this game. I mean, take a good look at it. You think it's so exciting... but now think of Baldur's Gate for a moment. Can't you see? It's the same thing. Ten years passed, and yet it's the same thing. Infinity engine. Romances. Choices. Good, evil. No physical interaction. Fighters, mages, rogues. Drinking violent dwarves. Cute female elves in sexy bras. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's new, man? What's changing? Nothing... nothing... nothing"I thought Dragon age was better then DS personally. I only played a small bit of the witcher so i cant comment on that one.

Still though, similar to Zelda, the formula is just so good I really don't mind all that much if it's repeated.I thought Dragon age was better then DS personally. Demon's Souls is not only the best RPG this gen IMO it's the still the best pure all-around game this gen.
I've played all the other hyped "best" RPGs this gen except ME2 and none of them compaire to Demon's Souls...that's why it won GOTY (and I called it before it was even reviewed and everyone said it wouldn't even score a 9 here in this site)
Demon's Souls godlyness in action...

DS the best rpg of the gen? No...
One of the top tier rpgs? Without a doubt ^^
I think it is in league with The witcher, & Dragon age: origins, so to be considered it that high is a serious victory in my book.
(cant comment about that compared to ME2 since ME1 diddnt fall all too well with me).

It is way to similar to Baldur's Gate, in a bad way, since it came out so long ago, i was expecting some refreshing features, to set it apart from the game it was suppose to follow, to make it worthwhile. But then again Dragon Age can be awesome or disappointing, but still good depending on whether or not you played BG and the expectations it was suppose to live up for.[QUOTE="MrFanboy"][QUOTE="zarshack"]

It's not like Demon's Soul is doing much new either. It's also extremely old school.
Also...currently roleplaying heavy RPGs (especially party based ones) like DA are far more rare than dungeon crawlers like Demon;s Soul

While this game plays if very safe, it was pretty well polished with no glitches or hangups. very generic though
What is your favourite this gen? One of these? Blazing Souls Accelerate, Tactical Guild, Generation of Chaos, Hexyz Force, Atelier Annie: Alchemists of Sera Island, Hero's Saga Laevatein Tactics, Tactics Layer: Ritina Guard Senki, Aedis Eclipse: Generation of Chaos, Jeanne d'Arc, Knights in the Nightmare, Shining Force Feather, Rondo of Swords, Generation of Chaos IV: Another Side, Shinseiki Genso: SSII Unlimited Side, Neverland Card Battles, Disgaea 3, or something else? No, I found it to be a slightly above average RPG.
Yandere
For me it's:
1. Demon's Souls
2. Mass Effect
3. Fallout 3
Expect the list to drastically change when I play Final Fantasy XIII and Mass Effect 2 :)
[QUOTE="mythrol"]Having put about 100 hours into DS's, I can tell you it's a great game however NOT the best RPG. I'm of the opinion that DA:O and ME2 are both easily better. And those are just recently released games. MrFanboyExcept ME2 isn't a RPG.
Why, just because no inventory? It has many other RPG elements, and when are you going to stop bashing ME2 and just accept that it's a good game?
Also ME2, FO3 and DAO take the title.

Nah, I don't have favorites those are good games though.
AAAoSI is the only one that I would/did not get would of those because it is supposedly easy.
I personally would say that Fallout 3 is my favorite, mainly because its so packed with content. Demon's Souls still has tons of content, but eschews more modern RPG type features like an NPC party or a near sims like level of real life activities for pure, epic action polished to a tee. The online is also amazingly unique, like nothing I've seen before, but even with all this awesomesauce I'd still put Fallout 3 ahead of it. The first Mass Effect was also good, but as for top RPG of this gen I would probably just keep it within the top 5.
Of course I think Alpha Protocol will be my top RPG once its out.
Wow, once again Lemmings damage control incorporating a multiplatform. I apologize, but the Multiplatformbox360 is rather appropriate at the moment.
I think you have reverse fanboy syndrome. you run into every topic claiming that everyone is being a 360 fanboy when people are listing games like Fallout 3 (out on 3 platforms) ME1-2 (out on 2 platforms) and The Witcher (PC only) Sorry but waving a Sony flag while pointing the finger at people calling them fanboys doesn't make you any less of one.Wow, once again Lemmings damage control incorporating a multiplatform. I apologize, but the Multiplatformbox360 is rather appropriate at the moment.

You sound upset that in some people's opinion a multiplatform rpg is the best rpg this gen... whats wrong with that? Does it have to be exclusive...?Wow, once again Lemmings damage control incorporating a multiplatform. I apologize, but the Multiplatformbox360 is rather appropriate at the moment.

Roleplaying heavy? You mean the branching dialogue stuff and solving quests just by picking lines of dialogue stuff? What was awesome about DS is the way it stood out from what i have played, thanks to the refreshing online integration like displaying messages on the ground to help people or trick them, invading someones game to kill him or summon them to my realm to help me with a boss. I never experienced this before and from what Yandere said only Elona had the majority of these features and that came out in like 2006 and not the 90's.Except ME2 isn't a RPG.It's more of an RPG than Demon's Soul is No offense, but thats an ignorant statement. It might be more in line with what you think an RPG is, but that's like saying BioWare games are not RPGs because they are nothing like Final Fantasy. They offer totally different experiences. Also, DS is not exclusively an "oldschool" game, it does a lot of things new in terms of online. Just about every single feature they have online hasn't been done in that manner before. Invading another person's single-player game, summoning Blue phantoms to help with bosses, leaving messages, seeing other players ghosts in their own respective games in real time, the bloodstains... plus every aspect of the online is fully explained in the game itself and the lore, so it actually makes sense in the context of the game. It's quite incredible. Demon's Souls is a demanding mistress though, I wanted to return the game for about the first 3 hours, but once it clicked, it REALLY clicked. One of my favorite games ever at this point, it's just so unique in tone, atmosphere, execution. Try it out, but don't be surprised if it seems overrated for the first level or two. It practically goes out of it's way to alienate you, like a gruff mentor who finally reveals he was only keeping you at arms length because he cares so much and it hurts to let go ... :P[QUOTE="MrFanboy"][QUOTE="mythrol"]Having put about 100 hours into DS's, I can tell you it's a great game however NOT the best RPG.
