it's good at what it does, atmospheric, poignant, challenging, and huge replayability, but I've beat it 7 or so times, it's not the best RPG around, but the best on the PS3 yes.
7 times? wow, I'm on my second playthrough and it's friggen harder then ever, I can't even imagine how hard it must be on the 7th pt. What's your class/spec and Soul Level? And out of curiosity which RPG's do you like better? I always get sick of RPG's, this was the first time I ever really got hooked. Well FF10 hooked me last gen.it's good at what it does, atmospheric, poignant, challenging, and huge replayability, but I've beat it 7 or so times, it's not the best RPG around, but the best on the PS3 yes.

It's one of the reasons that I'll probably end up buying a PS3 eventually.
I haven't played it yet though.
Some of you making comments as if it is odd I think DS is my fav RPG, it isn't odd at all, remember games like ME2 have Metacritic shattering scores and imo ended up being superficial souless games. Don't JUST critisize my fav RPG, post why it's not yours and which one is. Plox. FriendlyGaimz
Planescape: Torment. But to be fair I haven't played Demon Souls. IF it's better then PS: Torment then it must be great. :)
Not that labels matter but isn't it more WRPG then JRPG? At least in terms of design it is. I've never played Zelda but I read a youtube comment that had a ton of + rating that said Demon's Souls is like a Zelda RPG for grown ups :PIts very easily the best JRPG this gen, and its one of the best RPGs this gen

It's fairly shallow. It's okay, but with everyone stating how hard it is, when it isn't really all that difficult, it makes me somewhat like it less. The difficulty is exagerated and once you get the hang of what little gameplay it has, it's only as hard as you make it. If your stupid, of course it's going to be hard.
Only for the people who quit on it. The manly men who finish it are definitly not emo.Demon's Souls is totally emo

Your clearly good at it, but the game is difficult, you won't play another RPG this gen as hard unless it's some niche RPG noones heard of. Well FF10 hooked me last gen. it's really not that difficult once you get the firestorm spell, which destroys most bosses in a couple casts, the north regalia, and pure white tendency.if you get the first half from the king in 1-1, and the second half once you finish the game. the second playthrough is easily the hardest, then it gets easier after that, as you begin to gather mroe and more herbs, weapons, and stats. i'm soul level like 170 or somethingit's good at what it does, atmospheric, poignant, challenging, and huge replayability, but I've beat it 7 or so times, it's not the best RPG around, but the best on the PS3 yes.

Bland World, Bland Characters, Lacking content, poor online system (not poor mechanics), and just genuinley not half as hard as mentioned, buggy, abusable. I would say I've played games I found harder than Demon's Souls. Persona 4 was harder than Demon's Souls, and I would even say way more rewarding. Valkyria Chronicles is even harder than Demon's Souls to me. I just don't see where the praise for difficulty comes in. Just because you die a few times doesn't make it extremly hard, especially when it's as forgiving as Demon's Souls.
I suppose one comparative to Demon's Souls would be something like I Wanna Be The Guy. Yeah, you didn't expect that necessarily, but once you know it's coming, it's infinintly easier.

No. Reviewers are objective with opinions sprinkled ontop. It isn't the other way around. If you want to bash praise the game be objective, don't say something vague and them put imo. That's using the meaningless opinion card. Say, I didn't like the combat because it was slow and unresponsive and the weapons felt underpowered or something. Don't say bad combat imo. Reveiwers often miss or leave out lots of problems aswell. Take starcraft II for example? in the time where an sTratagy game can be made without allowing map hacks is possible, blizzard didnt even bother. a reviewer isnt going to mention this incredible gamebreaking detail, because they scrape the majority of the games they play... Theyre not testers, theyre not gamers (well they are, but when rushing for a job they are not) .... reviews barely every indicate the real quality, just an outline of what it does well and what it does bad, they ALWAYS miss tons.[QUOTE="hamzah1235"][QUOTE="Birdy09"]Bland World, Bland Characters, Lacking content, poor online system (not poor mechanics), and just genuinley not half as hard as mentioned, buggy, abusable.. I have never had a bug occur in my long play time of the game, and no reviewer has ever complained about it being buggy. The characters arent memorable, ill agree with that, though the backstory is very interesting. The amount of content the game has, (Which is a ton), is always praised by multiple reviewers. Also, while it may not have the same amount of items lkike Diablo, it is in no way mimicking Diablo or lacking in amount of items, items which can be upgraded many, many times. The online system is very intuitive and innovative and is also praised by every reviewer who has reviewed the game

If you don't think reviews are objective your simply wrong dude. They objectivly evaluate design aspects in relation to other games in the same genre, reviewers do give good reviews to games they don't like if designed well. It isn't opinion based, otherwise if a reviewer didn't like racing games all racing games would get bad scores etc...[QUOTE="Yangire"][QUOTE="FriendlyGaimz"] No. Reviewers are objective with opinions sprinkled ontop. Like I said, online mechanics are good, everything else is average or passable. "Reviewers blah blah" the games production values are horrible. they liked and bought into an idea so much that it got a high rating... good for demon souls. its nice to leave the negatives out, and yea yea "you encoutnered no bugs" I just gave you a massive AI bug that renders pretty much all the enemies ingame useless and you just put your fingers in your ears? ok good for you, doesnt change the fact. What? have you even played the game? none of those characters are memorable... I suppose its your opinon, though you are probably the first person I have seen to actually bash the game with reasons are all major pluses as to why DS is how it is and how its the best JRPG this genThe game has soul, it doesn't BS around with gimmicks, it ain't emo, the combat is polished, fluid, brutal and addicting, the game is masterfully desgined imo. I've played ME1 and 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, FF13 and I think that's all this gen, but DS is the only one I've finished, all those other games felt souless, pointless, I'm not sure I can put into words how DS made me feel. ---- The only thing I didn't like was the world theme of 2 and 5, I still liked the bosses and know it was well designed, but I didn't like the style of them, the rest were all awesome. I love how free you are, you can kill your bank and he's gone forever(until NG+), you can go from melee to spellcaster, you can help fellow NPC's or kill them, or ignore them. The freedom to pick the world you want to go to next. The weapons and gear are ownage imo. The bosses are easily some of the best this gen. You can tell they took some inspiration from SotC, the bosses are sick. Tower Knight, Penetrator, Flamelurker, Allant were some of my favs. ---- How come this game gets so little talk? What did you guys think? I bought the game because my friend bought it and let me play half the first level, I instahooked. Curiously he ended up selling it because he couldn't get passed 1-2 :PFriendlyGaimzyes, I agree, it gets even more addictive once you start collecting the special weapon and magics
@ Birdy I agree reviews aren't the end of. They are just an outline. THey are however more then simple opinions, and are as objective as possible, depending on the competence of the reviewer ofc. And I obviously disagree with your view on DS, I do agree with the game being abusable, I beat a couple of bosses and farmed the red eyed knight with "exploits". All in the name of saving some hours farming :P FriendlyGaimzMhmm, im jsut saying it how it is, nothign I have said is untruthful, I bought the game afterall hopeing for something special, ended up with a low budget and production valued game with some nice ideas, but poorly implemented... or rather, not polished at all!

If you don't think reviews are objective your simply wrong dude. They objectivly evaluate design aspects in relation to other games in the same genre, reviewers do give good reviews to games they don't like if designed well. It isn't opinion based, otherwise if a reviewer didn't like racing games all racing games would get bad scores etc...Sure they compare the game to other games in the genre, but they also rate it on how much they enjoy the game, or how much they enjoyed the music, or how the art sty1e looks, or how good the controls are.. All of those things and more are opinionated and they shape reviews.
Also, saying that reviewers give good reviews to games/genres that they themselves do not enjoy is BS let me share you this quote from a review on Worth Playing:
"Games like The Dark Spire prove just how subjective game reviews are; while it is near perfection in its chosen genre, the average gamer would trade in this game or simply throw it away after spending less than an hour with it."
It does matter if they enjoy the genre, and it does matter if they like the game, game reviews are opinionated.
P.S. He rated it 6.0 because he does not enjoy the genre that game is in, and the overall game.
