Demon's Souls is the best RPG I've ever played.

Im not sure I will buy it seeing as devs plan to kill it in 2010. You need a connection to play but that connection dissappears when the servers go down :(

EdenProxy
Damn that's horrible news :? I'd like to be able to go back to it in x years and do some pvp or something.

They aren't planning on killing it, they just said that they will support it through March 2011. If people are still playing they will most likely keep the servers live.

[QUOTE="xOMGITSJASONx"]

Its the most pure hardcore RPG i played this gen so far. I played Fallout 3, both Mass Effects, Oblivion, The Witcher (havent beat it yet), FF13, Infinate Undiscovery, Lost Odyssey, Dragon Age Origins, Fable 2. It really isn't a contest this gen. You want a movie with talking or a hardcore RPG? Demon Souls is the only REAL HARDCORE RPG i played all the other you talk and watch movies with too much story etc etc. Ohh and i'm working on my platinum with Demon Soul's level 119 Royalty with 24 hours clocked starting NG+. Yes i'm that good at farming lol.

FriendlyGaimz

Let me guess. Farming 4-4? :P I should have farmed more before finishing the game :?

You bet and with the Avarice Ring equipped farming is nice ;) Some people say do the black tendancy 4-2 route but i saved so much time this way lol.

I didn't give the game a chance so I can't say if it was bad or not.

I felt like quiting so many times early in this game it was sick. At this point, i beaten the game 3 times and now working on my platinum. Keep in mind. You can play it offline or online your choice.. If you play online and get a strong co-op partner for help they can run through a level while you watch in awe lol. But in online you can be invaded by a guy with advance spells weapons etc. Its an awesome game and i pray for a sequel with minimal changes.

I did die a few times but that wasn't it. Oof the atmosphere I couldn't find anything else that pulled me in. When I play RPGs in most cases I prefer it to be somewhat story driven.

I'm thinking about giving it another go since it's so cheap on amazon now.

Should take you around 30 hours, probably more, I had a TON of hours but I would leave the game on a lot while I was idle on the pc or eating or whatever. It's like crack lol.

it's a lot of trial and error. I consider myself good at video games but i never could get good at this particular gameGunSmith1_basic
The game is not trial and error. I can't stand trial and error games. It's strategic, if your really focused and carefull you can beat almost everything.

If you error a lot...yeah than it's pretty much trial and error...and error again. You need to memorize attack patterns, enemies, strategies, traps, maps! If you have ever played Monster Hunter...it's kinda like that game. Except it's harder and more versatile. You'll get pissed at how many times you'll lose ALL your souls forever. This game is not quite rage-quit friendly. You'll want to throw your controller through the TV and break the disc. But you'll be smirking, taunting and scolding your enemies once you get the hang of the game, the very same enemies that you overkilled you over and over in the first 10 hours of the game.

Its great. Some of the bosses were lame though, like the Dragon God. And cheap trial and errormoments are lame too.

i wouldn't call it the best RPG ever, but it's definitely worth the GotY awards it got. i have to say the game was a bit slow on me, UNTIL i decided to try out the online. just today, i probably played more than 10 hours. it's that good.

But you could block and roll back and learn that as your fighting, and you had to explore the level to find stuff. I really don't consider that trial and error gameplay, you wouldn't die just because you went one way or the other you could still adapt and win.

it actually depends on how much time you want to spend with it. the main adventure is relatively long, but you can play it over and over again with the same character (difficulty increases with each new game+, to a total of 8 i think), and you can start over and go with a completely different approach. played as a melee character with strong attack before? why don't you try a mage?

it feels like trial and error first, but then it becomes a question of caution and common sense. walk with the shield up when close to possible threats, don't rush into every door like a maniac... i'm surprised i actually managed to kill more than 4 bosses in body form, where before i'd die every 3 seconds. and yes i'm still on my first playthrough. another thing that happens is playing online, because you start caring less for souls, since when you die, you can get to join someone else, and if said someone got to the end of the stage, you get tons of bonus souls AND you're revived. hell, you keep the souls even if you die in co-op (if you're not the host). and of course, spending souls as soon as possible is always a wise choice, unless you're saving for something.

knight with lava bow, dark heater shield +2 (working on it, just found this baby) and dragon longsword +3. i use part of the brushwood set too (using it all would overburden me, it's ridiculously heavy).

i wanted to be a dual sword character, but didn't take me long to realize how pointless it is in this game. about 2 deaths later and i was back to my trusty shield :P

Haha i never use shield so many ways to play i'm level 119 with Old Durans armour and level 10 schimitar no shield, always 2 hand sword or talismon in left hand. I have have all swords but i'm trophy hunting so the stones are sitting lol. But i have like 30 endurance and when i equipt the Dragon Bone Smasher with full armor i can roll like 25 times fast without stopping. Its just cool to switch armors swords shields etc.. So many different ways to make your character look. Quick tip guys, get your luck at 30 and farming will be a breeze and all the rare stones will be yours fast.

i think that, as the person who just got to use the DBS today, i shouldn't be spreading stats so much :P especially luck, getting from 7 to 30 will be a pain. and my styIe is more "block, break attack, spam overpowered slash" :P which is funny, before demon's souls, i used to dislike shields.

I agree, but threads like these bring out the haters. I am also currently enjoying Valkyria Chronicles. DS is a very rare type of game and an instant classic. It's a shame the server will eventually go down but it's still a superb game offline. And I agree about some WRPGs like Bethesda games and Fable 2 feeling empty. Still like ME2 though.

I have no problem with it being your favorite. Just you threw me off with claiming DS had soul while all the other games you played felt "soulless and pointless' and you cant describe how DS makes you feel. Seems a tad extreme in my book. No offense to you of course.

i think it's more of a pun than claiming other games are just bland :P but i have to say, demon's souls is one of the few games where i really grew attached to my character. it feels so frail and human, you start seeing yourself in the situation.

Bland World, Bland Characters, Lacking content, poor online system (not poor mechanics), and just genuinley not half as hard as mentioned, buggy, abusable. Most overated game of the year ever.Birdy09

other than calling it 'buggy' (i never had any trouble with that), id agree. i thought it was a pretty good game but certainly nothing amazing.

Yeah, reviewers only do say facts, not things like opinions.

The opinon card is extremely annoying...SW needs to stop using it to excuses mindless fanboys

The Reviewer card is just as stupid(although I love you for saying the opinion card sucks ass well) it's not like the reviewers are incapable of being wrng, or disproven.

Demon's Souls is one of those rare RPGs that I love. So that either means two things -It's either the most amazing RPG ever- hence my love for a game like Planescape Torment -It's probably not a good "RPG" but it's an exceptional game and blends another genre well with its RPG Mechanics- probably why I love strategy RPGs.

There's just something about how it all comes together that just pulls you in. Some people just aren't gonna be pulled in and get it. Some people have preconcieved ideas of what an RPG is "supposed' to be and won't allow themselves in. But obviously there are quite a few people who love it to death.

I agree that it's really awesome. I love the atmosphere and the enormous amount of bosses. I'd say it's in my top 3 RPGs

Seeing as this has turned slightly into a DS general discussion (at least on the last page, which is the only one I've read), I've got a quick question:

If I want to get the luck bonus from the Large Sword of Searching, do I actually need to have it in one of my hands, or can I just have it in one of my off-hand slots and have a shield equipped instead?

On topic: Er, yeah, I love DS too.

You want to explain how DS isn't a RPG.

I think he's just trying to show off that he's very intelligent in the ways of RPG by saying DS isn't a trueRPG... Even though it is. And btw, I love Dexter :)

Definitely the only game worth beating more than 10 times.

i think you have to have it equiped on your persona, as in on visible on your character, i'm not sure though you can check this site though

I've played ME1 and 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, FF13 and I think that's all this genFriendlyGaimz
So? It's not exactly a high pedigree of Role Playing Games.

You are missing the point, DS is a hack and slash action RPG, not something of the likes of Dragon Age, or something as polarizing as Fallout (not the abomination third). It sets out to do very different things, and it certainly does them well.

In a lot of ways I think it's a great RPG for people who don't really like RPGs all that much. It's a fantastic game. While it does have very deep RPG elements it focuses on the action more, and you can figure out the other stuff as you go, rather than the stats and crap being the focus and the combat failing hard, like in most RPGs.

I'm guessing you haven't played very many RPG's, then. I mean, Demon's Souls is great and all, but better than Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic, Chrono Trigger...? Hell, no.

Off-topic, but your sig's FF13 (360) link is linking to your Prof. Layton review.

And how dare you forget to include Tales Of in your list.

DS is probably the most addicting game I've played this gen. I must have had at least 6 NG+ on my second playthrough and I'm still missing that best bladestone weapon trophy. :P
