Both will go down as one of the best games of this generation, one of the best RPG games to have ever come out. And will be remembered as a classic for years to come. But which game is the better one?

Demon's Souls is more linear, but offers a better narrative, more polish, and was more of a surprise.
Dark Souls is bigger and more ambitious with more offerings in gameplay and online and more to do, but its also less polished with framerate and lock on issues, plus a P2P system that makes online a little worse off.
Personally I haven't beaten Dark Souls yet, but I'm enjoying it more so far. I don't have to grind as much and can just explore and rush to my hearts content. My tune may change when I'm further in, but I'm loving it so far.
32 votes and 5 posts.... no friggin way!
I haven't played either, here to see which would be better to pick up.
So far, with the very small amount of time I've played Dark Souls, I've enjoyed Demon's Souls more. Of course, this is subject to change as I get further into Dark Souls.
I gotta go with Demon's Souls even though I'm loving Dark souls. To many frame rate issues, I'm not really liking the bonfire checkpoints or the limited healing or spell usuage.
From what I have played of dark souls so far, I'd honestly have to go with demon's souls. The music, the focus of the story which did exist, easier online, and more varied(although somewhat cookie cutter) class builds.
I'm liking the much bigger scale, increase of difficulty, and idea of humanity in dark souls though. In time my vote could change, and while I'm loving dark souls, I gotta go with Demons hands down.
Voted Dark Souls. Neither game really has a compelling narrative, but at least there's something of a narrative in Demon's Souls. The way Dark Souls ends is one of the biggest "that's it!?" endings I've ever seen through. Still, both games are about the bosses and in that regard Dark Souls absolutely punishes Demon's Souls.
Maybe it's that the online isn't very good, maybe it's that people are very into it yet, but the online in Dark Souls is quite disappointing. I think there were more interesting ways to upgrade your weapons in Demon's Souls, and it seemed like stats aside from VIT and END actually made a difference. The world in Dark Souls, however, is much better than Demon's Souls. Much larger, more variety of enemies, more bosses, more optional stuff to explore. The bonfires took a lot of the annoyance of dying from Demon's Souls, while still penalizing you for being careless.
That being said, there's a reason this game is Dark Souls and not Demon's Souls 2. They both have their strengths and weaknesses and both deserve your time if you're willing to accept dying a lot.
I'm giving the edge ever so slightly to Demons Souls for a few minor things like better music, a tad more polished and clean and obviously more original. Both are amazing though.

Wow then online must be very bad in Dark Souls because i think Demons Souls has the worse online i ever played in a game.

It's a tie for me. My favorite thing about Dark Souls, and the one thing I consider an improvement over Demon's Souls, is the world itself. It's massive, diversified, and connected in all kinds of clever ways. Finding short cuts and nice little pieces of scenery to behold makes exploring a hell of a lot more fun.
On the other hand, I appreciate how direct Demon's Souls was when it came to objective. You had five worlds and had to go kill the final demon in each one. That's it. That's the deal. Vanquish the evil forever... or become it. Dark Souls just doesn't have that. It tells you to ring two bells and... nothing. You spend the rest of the time wandering around, just killing everything you come to. Good thing for that fun exploration.
Anyway, both games have their ups and downs, but both are absolutely incredible. I love them both, so they both win.

Yep. The weapon power gain from your stats is pitiful in this game. There's almost no reason to have a weapon that scales with your stats unless they're way up there, like 50-60. You put as much str/dex as you need to wield whatever weapon you want, then the rest on vit/end while you make a +5 lightning weapon that will blow through any other weapon for a while. The only more powerful option for a weapon other than its lightning counterpart is a standard +15 while using enchant weapon (or whatever Dark Souls' version of this is), much like people did in Demon's Souls.
Most of the people you'll likely be in PvP with have put all stats into vit/end, using light armor, fog ring (not sure of the actual name, makes it so you can't lock on), and probably a Lightning Zweihander +5 (more than 700 damage on that baby)
I kinda agree, I'm hoping I'll remember all the places I want to come back to.I've been playing Dark Souls nonstop since it came out and I love it. However, I think I like Demons Souls more. Maybe because it's more linear O_O

If only I knew how to create a +5 lightning sword, I could use a good exploit! :)Deathtransit
Get whatever weapon you want to be lightning (can't be a unique one like Drake Sword or one that takes Twinkling Titanite), use titanite shards to upgrade it to +5, ascend it to +6 using a large titanite shard, upgrade it to +10 using more large titanite shards, then go to the blacksmith in Anor Londo and have him ascend your +10 weapon to a lightning weapon using a titanite chunk. More titanite chunks get it to +4, a titanite slab will get it to +5.

Yeah, I mean when I say I like Demons Souls more it's only by like .1% more. They are both so good!
Demon's Souls was awesome but for me doesn't match the grand, epic scale of Dark Souls. Pretty much everything is better IMO: The music, the bosses, the save system, the visuals, the world itself...
Demon's Souls was good but Dark Souls is god.

Dark SOuls by miles, it is far bigger, better, more refined and with even more amazing monsters etc
Demons Souls is amazing too though, make no mistake, but Dark Souls is way more polished in gameplay and the design is out of this world and far far better than the more linear Demons SOuls

I would almost argue against your 'more refined' point. they messed quite a bit up too....like how weapons with stat scaling cap out with high damage at around 50...you can pretty much upgrade +5 in the elements and sink all your points into endurance.. you can do more damage than someone who has sunk 50 into dex or str with dex or str scaling weapons. fire was pretty OP in demon's souls, but in dark souls fire and lightning blow nearly everything away. the p2p servers and online system in general. although the game is primarily single player, the online portion is pretty bare/desolate unless you're on the right servers at the right level in the right area. Even then it's difficult to connect with other players. the game is riddled with twice as many bugs...to the point that around 3 bosses bug themselves out for an easy kill or even kill themselves.. horrible game crashing bugs and a shakey/chuggy framerate...not to mention the extremely low constant framerate in areas such as blighttown and specific areas in crystal cave/duke's archive. but I'd agree with your other points..Dark Souls for me, due to the following:
- Open, yet linked structure with a larger world
- The environment variety
- Better and even broader selection of gear and weapons
- Better design for bosses and for the foes in general. Also, there are even more of them
That said, I still love Demon's Souls just the same as I did before and it, along with Dark Souls, will go down as providing two of the most memorable and unique gaming experiences of the entire gen for me. Both are simply unforgettable instant classics, in my view.

I agree 100% with your opinion.
FromSoftware is a developer to be respected on the same level as Valve or Rockstar... they always produce excellent, genre-defining work, from King's Field, to Armored Core, to Demon's/Dark Souls.
Demon's Souls is a much, much better game. The core mechanics of character building in Dark Souls are just broken, and the online is such a huge step backward.
I like the King's Field type world design, but it seems like in a game like this the Nexus system just worked better.
The story, music, and atmosphere in Demon's Souls is just better. Its grim, hopeless, dark, and thick. Dark Souls just feels bland in comparison.
My biggest complaint however is the broken character system. In Demon's Souls there was so much you could do with your character. So many different builds, mage builds, faith builds, dual-dex, cleaver, blueblood... the list goes on. So many different options. In Dark Souls stats just don't matter because the upgrade scaling system is just broken. There is no reason to make anything but a mage with enough stats for any decent +5 elemental weapon. The you just pump endurance and vitality. Its the only viable build in the game. Its so disappointing.
And the online in Dark Souls.... its just such a let down. So much promise with the covenant system, it could have been very cool, but no dedicated servers just ruined it. I don't know if its Namco's fault, or a problem with it being ported to Xbox this time, but the online is close to gone. Very sad.
Dark Souls is a great game on its on, but its a let down after Demon's Souls.
I haven't finished Dark Souls yet but so far definitely Demon's Souls. I liked the atmosphere alot more. Also it was more like it was fair and with finnesse. In Demon's Souls the difficulty arose from the game's design whereas in Dark Souls they're just adding alot of difficulty just cause it's their new image. It's more difficulty thrown in your face.
As much as I love Dark Souls, I have to go with Demons Souls because Atlus used Dedicated servers for the online functions. Dark souls uses P2P and it's terrible you have such a hard time finding people to play with/kill all the time.Jynxzor
Its a double edged sword.. On one hand it is worse, but on another hand the multiplayer will exist indefinitely.. Demon's Souls servers are suppose to close down permantently next year.. Hopefully the problems I hear can be patched for Dark Souls.

I heard they are patching this so stat scaling is actually good.

What exactly will they be patching? I'm also very annoyed that if you want to be useful in pvp, you need to have +5 lightning weapon, 40 in endurance rest into vit... wtf kind of garbage is that?! Plus every1 spamming the gravity spell or wields stone sword in offhand with the invis ring. Broken pvp and i'm 99% they won't do **** about it even in 2 years from now... Stats scaling is what should be fixed because at SL120 absolutely every1 uses the +5 lightning weapon. What was the point of even including the rest? seriously...Dark Souls for me. Demon's Souls had a disjointed feel to it for me with the way the worlds were broken up. Dark Souls being wide open makes you feel like you're on some grand adventure, constantly discovering things and being rewarded for exploration. Demon's Souls feels quaint in comparison
I also appreciate the bonfires of Dark Souls, because although it does make the game easier, it also makes it more manageable, because having to replay the same **** areas over and over again in Demon's Souls due to one tough section would sometimes cross the line into frustration territory.
