Dark Souls for me. Demon's Souls had a disjointed feel to it for me with the way the worlds were broken up. Dark Souls being wide open makes you feel like you're on some grand adventure, constantly discovering things and being rewarded for exploration. Demon's Souls feels quaint in comparison

I also appreciate the bonfires of Dark Souls, because although it does make the game easier, it also makes it more manageable, because having to replay the same **** areas over and over again in Demon's Souls due to one tough section would sometimes cross the line into frustration territory.

skinny_man_69

Demon's Souls:

Start>open shortcut to start

Start>take shortcut>open shortcut to start

Start>take shortcut>fight boss>move on to level 1-2

Dark Souls:

Take path/warp to closest bonfire>Open shortcut (usually has bonfire nearby)>fight boss>bonfire>shortcut>bonfire>boss (shortcuts allow you to leave the area without having to go through the whole thing again).

It's like the same thing.

Okay, 1-1 had shortcuts like that, but a lot of places (World 4 and 5 in particular) didn't have many/any. Having to go through those **** swamps were a plague on my life and my character

Both will go down as one of the best games of this generation, one of the best RPG games to have ever come out. And will be remembered as a classic for years to come. But which game is the better one?

Omega-316

One thing I can say, Dark Souls is way harder.

Bosses are easier (because there aren't any cheap bosses like maneater), there are just more mini-boss like enemies now. Lure them with your arrows.

The online system in Dark Souls really kills it. I love the ambitious world, but I hate how ****ing difficult it is to successfully summon or invade. What is the point of humanity, a currency based almost solely on these features, if your online system doesn't even work? Demon's Souls until Bandai does something about this.

Demon's Souls is far better. It's easier to get into, frustrating yet still rewarding, better online play, more interesting NPC's, has MP bars, nice detailed graphics, etc. Dark Souls, which I understand is only supposed to be similar to DS gameplay, has bad framerate issues. Even when I'm in firelink shrine, I get the occasional slowdown. I don't even play online either. I suppose what makes Dark Souls frustrating compared to Demons Souls is that you actually have limited resources. You can only use magic X amount of times, have to have proper attunement slots in order to even use magic, and have to spend Humanity points in order to recover your estus flasks, assuming you aren't at firelink shrine.

I suppose Dark Souls means you have to be far more intelligent, compared to Demon's Souls, with how you use your resources, simply because there's no Nexus to go back to and you have to backtrack to get items. Enemies are more intelligent and there are more ways to kick your ass in Dark Souls. I don't know, there's just no enjoyment dying over and over again as there was in Demon's Souls. Plus, no Temple knight as a starting class.:(

One thing I do love about Dark Souls is its far better music. Demon's Souls OST was alright, but the Dark Souls music sounds so more unique and less boring.

Demon's Souls. Not liking Dark Souls as much as I'd hoped. Have to agree with people saying PVP is completely broken, too. Online isn't as good. It's pretty much already all been said why Demon's Souls was better. Dark Souls is great though.

demon souls. i miss getting invaded often, the suspense. and the pvp was alot more balanced. but overall both games are great. one big gripe about darksouls is that most builds are overshadowed by lighting/fire weapons. my dex build sucks big time, not enough "S" scaling weapons. :(

I'm really enjoying Dark Souls. The multiplayer has worked fine for me so far and I am enjoying the characters and the atmosphere a lot more. The game is a lot better graphically and the world is a lot more impressive to explore. The game is a lot more addictive and engrossing to play - I could only play Demon Souls in short chunks. I found dying in Demon Souls to be a lot more severe than Dark Souls.

So far, I have to give it to demons souls. I like its atmosphere, progression, and story more; though I am loving dark souls. the main things I'd say dark souls improved on was size and scale

With demons souls, the atmosphere and setting really gave off a feeling of a place that was suddenly ravaged and torn apart. it added to the story without even saying anything. Dark Souls atmosphere is great, but it just didnt give the same feeling as demons souls did.

I like the connected world in dark souls, but parts of it feel more linear the demons souls. for example, you have to beat the parish before going to the lower burg, and beat the lower burg before the depths. the only linearity in demons souls is the order you complete the individual levels in the different archstones. other than that, you can complete worlds in any order.

so far, I don't really like Dark Souls' story. It has the same type of barebones story demons souls, but I'm not getting the lore. the unique weapon descriptions and archstones all added to the story

I'm still early in Dark Souls but so far I've seen no real significant signs of improvement over Demon's Souls. If anything it feels like slight step backwards. But I've got a long way to go yet.

Demon's Souls is more polished and better game

Dark Souls adds many new problems to the game which Demon's Souls didn't have
They didn't bother to polishing the game, it was released unfinished
Framerate goes under 10 FPS constantly
You get stuck in environments and fall through objects
There is notable input lag time to time
Hit detection is not always great
Online is laggy and its hard to find people because they separated the servers
PVP is broken, level scaling doesn't work and some spells/weapons are just too overpowered
Few NPCs might not always show up

Dark Souls is in many ways a step back from Demon's Souls but its still a one of the best games this year

I'll have to say Dark Souls Should have been better!! however some of it's mechanics and charasteristics depended on the Online play. But because they decited to go with P2P that online play is hurt because of lag. Another thing Dark Souls is quite easy.... way too easy in co-op so a lot of people don't even bother doing co-op. They should have at least boosted the power and hp of monsters when having a person help even more when 2 people help but it remains the same. Further more you can agro in this game so if a player hits an enemy it distracts them while other party members quickly bring the HP down. I had the Crystal Ring Shield which has a special L2 ability and I buffed myself with a Pyromancer buff ( Inner power something like that ) I used to 4 hit Bosses and they died. So they should have taken into consideration that when they say "prepare to die" which is not the case if you just experiment a little you'll find that the game is actually lacking challenge. I have heard people say they had to hold back on the game to enjoy the challenge. FYI you can parry the last boss how lame was that when I found out ._.

errrr, just wait until you have to play the entirety of blight town with 10 fps...or the huge frequent fps drops of the painted world of ariamis. Even the crystal cave/dukes archives have some pretty bad ones. the horrible sections don't really start until you get about 20 hours in. I'm still seeing new issues and I'm about 65 hours in. Some bugs that are inexcusable, like the dragon glitch from the painted world of ariamis. It's disappointing that I have to search for online for the "trick" to unglitch it just to advance in the game..

Ok, sounded on other guy like it was nearly all the time. I am about to get this game but i will not get it if i have to play with 10-15fps almost all the time. Doesn't matter how good the game is, i cant play games with that low fps :?

The game has a few areas where the framerate takes a major dive, but the smooth areas far outweigh the laggy areas.

I like the joined open world of Dark Souls a lot better than the linearity of Demon's Souls levels. Both are excellent games, but I give my vote to Dark Souls.

I'm not taking PvP into account at all as I hate getting raided and I don't raid other gamers. The co-op in Dark Souls works rather well and I've not had any game ruining issues with it, though I can understand how frustrating it would be not being able to co-op with your friends.

That's why I give the edge to Dark Souls too.

Regarding the frame rate slow downs, Demon's Souls had quite a lot of slow frame rates and slow downs too, for example, the town in the Valley of Defilement in Demon's Souls (5-2) had really bad frame rates like Blight town, maybe not quite as bad. I didn't find it effected the gameplay though for either.

I liked Demon's Souls more so far (have played only 25 hours of Dars Souls so far) because of how From Software took the story. I also liked the dedicated servers more and I loved the world and character tendencies that opened up new paths and encounters in levels. I really like the Castlevania style of dark Souls though, and the bosses are just so good.

weird how you're the only user I've ever heard of that hasn't experienced a constant 10 FPS in blight town.. even in every video you watch you can see the game is chugging/not smooth i.e. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0rwczXzYXo here's a three major glitches that I've run into: the ash lake dragon that kills itself when you go to the dragon covenant the dragon in the painted world of ariamis that bugs on the bridge so you can't advance - looking it up online you have to do a jumping attack (no other attack will work) to unbug it every time you want to pass. the dragon in the undead burg that kills itself - or bugs out for an easy kill then again, I'm sure you won't experience these since you seem to have a special version of the game that apparently doesn't have the issues everyone is experiencing.
