Not really a sleeper hit. I'm sure everyone here on GS knows about it.siLVURcrossthey didn't know about it BEFORE it released. It's the perfect example of a sleeper hit.
[QUOTE="aaronmullan"][QUOTE="mythrol"]So is offical hype at AAA for this game?Jandurin7.0-8.0, actually. nah, i'd say AA would be the general hype >_> Well, yeah. It's getting AAAs non stop, but the hype is AA.
[QUOTE="aaronmullan"][QUOTE="mythrol"]So is offical hype at AAA for this game?mythrol7.0-8.0, actually. No way is that official hype. The game has been bouncing around SW's for over a month with cows talking about it being "The greatest JRPG this gen." There was a thread, and AA came up. AA is the official hype. Fact.

Sorry the game is AAA regardless of what any detractors says. And lol at people asking what the game is about READ THE FRECKING REVIEWS, such obvious trolls. I hype it AAA here at Gamspot with no reservations I have faith they score it correctly and regardless if they score it AAA or not it is STILL an AAA game.

sleeper hit of the year, no doubtRevolution316
Hmmmm...I am more and more curious about this game. Yet every review I read doesn't seem to match the hype and scores the game is getting. I can't help but feel people aren't scoring the game accurately. It all seems to me like a group of critics hear about this little known awesome game, they feel elite for playing it so they rate it high, then others read the elite reviews and want to be elite too. Like how not long ago, everyone thought Paris HIlton was so hot. Or how every new band out of the UK is treated like the second coming of the beatles...only to be just another pop band and nobody cares after the falsely inflated hype for the first album quickly dies.
I'll still play this game, but I honesly suspect that a lot of people at hyping this more to be part of the cool crowd and are going to be hugely disappointed and angry when they actually do play the game. I predict this game will quickly be forgotten about.
Sleeper hit? No. Tony Hawk was a sleeper hit. Ico was a sleeper hit. This game seems more like a myth.
i'll definitely picking it up (got it on pre-order). i'm a little hesitanta concerning the difficulty level, but reviewers and players alike have been saying its punishing, but fair.awesomeness, this game will have me enthralled for a while i bet. im not great at action/adventure but im pretty good at rpg. glad to hear it got a pretty good score, now im not worried about picking it up

Will buy after price drop most likely, unless they have a demo which is solid. Extreme difficulty and frustration doesn't sound like my cup of tea. I enjoy challenge (Ninja Gaiden on Xbox is one of my favorite games) but I dont remember the media thinking NG was THIS hard.

I used to think exactly the same thing until I bought it. It's not all that hard. It seemed really hard to me when I first started trying to get into it, but after a while it clicks. The way you have to go about playing it is different from anything I've played before. You rarely can just go recklessly rushing into groups of enemies without planning because you can die so quickly and the penalty for death is more harsh than the convenient checkpoints in most games. However, with practice you figure out how to pick off the enemies without too much trouble. You learn to take your time and be careful, as well as the timing and techniques for killing different kinds of enemies. Also, even though there's no checkpoints, there's a really good shortcut system where for example, you get to a certain point and then pull a lever which opens a door permanently to serve as a shortcut in the level. There can sometimes be two or three shortcuts in a level.
this game will get marked down for being too difficult on GS, when it is purposely made that way for teh hardcorezzzzuh! on the other hand, it might score big due to high replay value and addictiveness!!!Meowmixxviwhats so addictive about it?
If it gets AA, it'll hit the hype. The hype is AA.It's going to flop as an AA. You cows need to learn to restrain yourselves to avoid these sorts of things. It's better to estimate one score lower when it comes to potential AAA games.

I say AAA but that's because for me is going to be AAA. I could care less about what GS tells me, the reviewers here are too casual for such an awesome game. :)If it gets AA, it'll hit the hype. The hype is AA.[QUOTE="aaronmullan"][QUOTE="ceruxx"]

Yes, personal AAA. That doesn't mean what GS 'll give it.[QUOTE="mtradr43"][QUOTE="Rikusaki"]how do you figure? i had the game, and i can say the replay is not nearly as "insane" as you claim it to be. 712 Level Cap? but that doesnt make a difference. the levels dont work like you think they do. once you get all the magic spells it doesnt matter what level you are because you are basically god. all the levels are is you go up one soul level every time you spend souls to upgrade a stat. thats all it is. so theoretically, there are no levels.Definitely picking this one up. The amount of replay value in this game is insane.

:D like Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Little Big Planet, InFamous and.... MGS4?
lol Lemmings and their wishful thinking. Demon's Soul's will score AAA along with those other titles I mentioned that were supposeed to "flop as an AA" according to the all seeing all knowing lemmings on this board. You guys just can't accept that PS3 has so many great/amazing games comming out because xbox360 has all flops in the last 2 years except for 1 game (Gears 2).

I mean, GamerLimit gave it a perfect 10 in that area. well, mtradr43 gave it a 10, so >_> yes, at the time when i started playing it, i did. i havent changed my reviews yet. initially, its really fun, but once you level up a bit, get the weapons, and unlock the high level spells, the game loses almost all difficulty, and the fun slowly drains from it.
EDIT: If i had to review it like a real reviewer would (wait until you spend a lot of time with the game instead of part way through), i would give it an 8.5. good experience, but not so good replay down the line.

So, basically, you completed the game and then got bored of it. Are there ANY games that once you master you really keep going back to? The whole point is getting to that point. And then doing it again in a different way if you enjoyed yourself enough. I mean, "best weapon" "boss killing spells". That sounds like at least 20 hours of gameplay before you reached that. 20 hours is long for games these days, and then consider that it will likely take others longer.

LMAO...and how long dose that take? (keep in mind I own the game)
never mind that fact there are diffrent ****s, weapons, and armor to collect that you might not even be able to get until 2 or 3 play thrus of the game. You Create you own person right down to the facial hair of the character you want to be. This game has replay value out the rear end, to say otherwise is just a bash.
The way you talk is if you owned the game and now you don't. Did you beat it? if so what was your final soul level and what ****perosn did you choose?

Jandurin
I fully intend on trying it. I just see a bunch of 9 and 9.5 scores but then read reviews that do nothing but talk about how annoying, frustrating, difficult, easy to die, etc. Then they say, "but its teh awesome because other people say so!" and give it a 9.5
Honesly, I hope it really does live up to the hype...mainly because the hype has convinced me to dish out cash to buy it. So I really do hope I'm wrong for my own sake.

doesnt matter what person you choose, because in the end they will all be the exact same. i couldnt even finish a single playthrough, my preferred weapon was the meat cleaver, i used the purple flame shield, the white bow, and yes, the firestorm spell, once cast, will destroy most bosses in 2 casts. once i had all that stuff, the game lost all challenge to me, and i got so bored that i couldnt even bring myself to finish the game.ZIMdoomhttp://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/Demons_Souls/index.html He looks like the first western guy to review it. I like his review a lot. Seems less hypey and more realistic and still says it's fantastic.
I have serious doubts it'll get above 7.5 here. It'll be hit for it's lower than expected production values, and the fact it is not very accessible. It'll be an amazing game regardless, and considering the pre-order bonus for the game, you can't go wrong with it, if you enjoy a good RPG.jonnyt61what's the pre-order bonus?
