Which do you think has better Art Design and look better artistically?

Which has more immersive levels andbetter level design?

Hopefully the people who vote in this will be people who've played both.

I say Metroid all the way.

Gears is too muddy for me art-wise. Too generic.

The GFS Valhalla in MP3 is beautifully crafted by those nice people at Retro Studios.

I enjoyed MP3 a lot more than gears, but gears has a very 40k look to it, and I'm a huge 40k fan...so I'm gonna go with gears.

MP3 looks too shiny and toy-like. Gears of War may be less creative, but it is more effective at accomplishing what it sets out to do.

My only visual complaint with Gears is that the humans and the locusts look identical to me from a distance and sometimes I couldn't tell who I was shooting. Otherwise, I think Gears is the superior game visually which is a bit of a shame because I really enjoyed Metroid Prime 3 a lot (especially for its visual presentation.)

If you think gears has poor art direction your blind. Just because one or two area have too much shine and HDR doesnt make the hole game bad.

I hate the bad color palette in Gears, but the art design is really good. But I still think MP3 has the better art design.

Both have superb art style, ut i chose MP3 because it's more colourful, but the best art style in any game should go to one of these 3: Okami, The legend Of Zelda Twlight Princess or Shadow of the Colossuss.

Its just it was 6 hours (took me that long) of duck, cover, fire, duck, cover, fire.

Puzzles? There were not enough in Gears.

Half-Life and Metroid Prime show FPS/Adventures can integrate really good puzzles into solid fire fights.

Some people say Gears doesn't have an impressive art style because its color palette isn't widely varied. But you can't ignore the impressive architechure and the environment. It vibes perfectly. and when Gears does use color it uses it very well, in a way that fits with everything else.

Yeah I personally find Metroid Prime to be better than Gears of War. Gears of War had some great ideas but I think they could've worked more on level design.

Artistically speaking i think mp3 is the best game this genertion, gears was mind blowing on a technical level, some parts just made me go WOW!!! but it definately wasn't the art direction: big idiots in suits, drab colour pallette etc.

so? mp3 only took me 7 and a half hours, and thats collecting all 100 powerup items. the puzzles in mp3 could be solved for a 7 year old,and were most of the time worthless.

With Gears you get basically 4 colors.

Gray, Gray, Brownish Gray, and Metallic.

Not that I'm having trouble with it, but I'm halfway collected and I'm at 15 hours.

Maybe I read the logs too much.

 That reminded me of some guy complaining of MP3's "bad level design" he said he ran into an invisible wall that wouldn't let him pass the game. When it was obvious that there was a force field that would go down once you beat the enemies.

Also you beat it in 7 hours? I find that hard to belive, who was the last boss?

why would i even bother giving info on the game like the last boss, what item is gotten where, and what not, when anyone could answer those questions? for example, when you are shooting off satellites that tell you where stuff is, one of them instead gives you info on aether and the other on a planet i cannot remember the name of. no one would believe me anyway no matter what info i gave.

MP is as generic as Gears of War, people. Just because Samus is a woman who wears a funky suit running around bigger levels doesn't make the art direction any better.

That said, MP has much better level design. After all, it's an adventure game. The TC is just looking to start a flame war, considering that both games are entirely different.

MP is as generic as Gears of War, people. Just because Samus is a woman who wears a funky suit running around bigger levels doesn't make the art direction any better.

That said, MP has much better level design. After all, it's an adventure game. The TC is just looking to start a flame war, considering that both games are entirely different.

mp3 generic :|now ive heard everything

Someone replying too a better poster with a witless remark that doesn't refute anything. Now I have heard everything. :|

If you'd heard everything you'd understand in SW people make stupid comments.

I asked people which they liked. Stated which one I prefered, and why not the other.

I didn't say they were "kiddy", or stupid.

I like things for originality. Something is still original if its the thing that did it originally.

Or if it reinvents a genre.

Gears of War is for people who can't wait for Halo 3.

There is no peer to Metroid Prime other than maybe Half-Life.

This isn't flamebait, at least at first it wasn't.

To be flamebait sir, one must carry the torch too.

Well then I apologize for calling your thread flamebait, since you seem sincere enough.

Metroid Prime as generic as GoW? The games are different in almost every aspect. Just compare some screenshots of the two. Gears nails the whole post apocalyptic thing and Metroid nails the diverse alien landscapes. Personally I love Metroids style and level design, nothing touches it IMO. Gears has technical merit beyond compare. So Metroid easily beats Gears IMO.

Gritty sci-fi world with cavemen-like soldiers, or gritty sci-fi world with a few more colors...hmm...hard to chose...

And you're right, these are two different games, so theres no point in comparing them, considering their genre demands different level designs. Since MP is an adventure game thats more than worth the plastic its made with...it would obviously win in the level design department. I did not dispute this, why did you reply to my post?

because you're still acting like they are the same. seriously, go compare screenshots of the two and try to come back here telling me that Metroid is just Gears with "more colors". If Gears wasn't so damn linear it mighthave beatMetroid. Choosing a alternate path for minutes at a time just isn't gonna sit with me. If you still think what you're saying, go buy MP3 and beat the game. the last planet is f-ing amazing in its design.

Both have superb Art-direction for their own settings etc, hard for me to choose one over the other... They are too different to compare.

Gears. Give credit where credit is due.

Gears is graphically an amazing achievement on consoles, and artistically it holds its own as well. In terms of atmosphere etc id give it to Metroid Prime 3.

In terms of overall design and detail its Gears by far.

Artistically speaking i think mp3 is the best game this genertion, gears was mind blowing on a technical level, some parts just made me go WOW!!! but it definately wasn't the art direction: big idiots in suits, drab colour pallette etc.

---OkeyDokey---

umm, Bioshock?
