@rektmuhface: dude Destiny is a grind fest. Same shit over and over. It wouldn't be bad if there was a change of scenery for the different ops.

Guess you never had a fireteam of friends to tackle The Vault of Glass. That's a shame too, because some of those moments make the otherwise very repetitive game worth playing.

A friend who I trust tells me certain raids are epic... but they take like 20 to 30 hours to get there. True?

lolno! I've heard tales of the new one taking around 9 hours, but I can't confirm this as I haven't done it yet. VoG can take around 6 hours to get through if you don't know what you're doing, and Crota raid can be done in less than an hour.
For those a little bit interested in Destiny and aren't sure if its worth it, i'd suggest you listen to the giantbomb podcast released this week. If even Jeff is saying its decent, you know its not as shitty as the large majority of people in here (as was i) are saying.
@locopatho: If you're talking about how long it takes to prepare for a raid? Yeah, he's kinda right because you have to reach at least level 20 and then have decent gear and weapons to be effective.
Yeah I meant to level up and stuff. I know the actual raids don't take 20 hours :P
II don't understand why MMOs come with grinding built in? I mean the monthly fee ones sure, but why Destiny?
I only own the base game so I got tired after beating the game with all the classes. It's only good to me for a couple hrs of doing strikes or joining a friend for some story missions/patrol. I've yet to try a raid, I would probably enjoy it but never have enough time to devote to it or find a good group.
My favorite game this gen so far is Forza Horizon 2. Multiplayer variety is always fresh with car classes, locations and race types. Can spend countless hours in online road trips.
I put like over 300 hours into it. It has everything a good game should have...plus the really well-made, addicting, polished gunplay mechanics Bungie is known for. I can't wait for Destiny 2...oh wait, I can because there is still so much to do in the current game.
Short answer: No
Long Answer: Hellll Nooooo!

Bungie might be a bunch of things, but they're smart enough to dangle new weapons and gear in your face, get you to level it up, then throw better gear and weapons at you and do it all over again. I freely admit I got addicted to doing it too.
You'll be like "I just need five more weapon parts and mote of light, and I can make mah shit more powerful!". After a while though, you say to yourself "why the hell do I keep grinding for this stuff?" and move on. This new expansion is fun, but it gets old fast as well. I've grinded for a couple of weeks and made three guardians pretty powerful, but after I do the latest raid a few times there wont be much incentive to keep playing.
I only continued playing with The Taken King because PSN fucked up and gave it to me for free. :D

Thank you based Bungie for having the best weapon designs of all time. These weapons, just the look of them are worth grinding for.

I still don't understand why they care if you play though? If you paid a monthly fee, sure. But you.... don't? Once they have your money for Destiny, what do they get out of you still playing?
Gotta say, they are the biggest disappointment of the gen so far for me. All my COD and Halo friends are playing Destiny, wah :( :P
How about no. The game is meh and I'm not getting ripped off by Bungie and Activision....especially Activision. I know it's all business and going after that mighty dollar but with that being said... Activision can go f*** themselves for several other reasons including this game that I don't feel like getting into at the moment.
@locopatho: You know, I've never thought of that before, and you're right. For a few months I stopped playing, and Bungie sent me an email with free strange coins to get me to play again. Maybe it's just word of mouth and just competition to have the best guardian and gear? Don't really know, but whatever it is, it's working because they're making a killing.
I guess the price of these expansions almost equals the monthly fees, if we assume people stop playing after a few months, and I think that's what is happening for the most part.
I know I'm not shelling one more penny for anything Destiny related in the future, not expansions, DLC or sequels, despite having a decent time playing for a year. When it comes down to it, they just didn't live up to expectations any way you look at it.
There are quite a few games I've enjoyed this gen more than Destiny, Halo MCC is an example of one of those
I guess we're ignoring Divinity:OS, Pillars of Eternity, Rocket League, Ori and The Blind Forest, Gears UE, and MKX?
MGSV? Bloobourne? Witcher 3? Dragon Age Inquisition? Dead or Alive 5 Last Round (Not necessarily this gen but whatever I play it a lot)?

**** no, it's one mission of fun, after like 15 hours of sheer monotony.

True, because after doing them several times each, the fun is gone. Even the pvp gets boring early on. It's funny, because even including the three "expansions", with the original game, I don't think all of them put together is worth $60. Much less what the actual price is.

The fun is gone fairly quickly, before you get to the doo-doo grind session. The PvP was at least entertaining in a decent time kill sort of way, but the very nature of it was made to give you cheap and easy kills, no real sense of skill or reward there.
Destiny is indeed THE best shooter and game this generation for me, i have put over 900 hours into it and been playing it since the day it released last year, i haven't been keeping my hands off it since the Taken King release i literally play for hours and hours every single day joining team after team after team doing raids, strikes, PvP, challenges and so much more!!!
Destiny introduced me to many cool gamers, Destiny has got me addicted to the whole YouTube gaming channel thing.
Destiny is the kind of game that made me (and the entire clan) take an entire week off work to do the raid, literally my clan have grown with many dedicated Destiny players that play daily to do challenges, chat and just have a laugh.
The raid on day 1 took us all over 9 hours of gaming figuring out puzzles, how bosses work and more
Game of the Generation imo? its Destiny.
Also Titans ftw!
@finalstar2007: You're crazy boy.
Game is too addictive man!
you get that Black Spindle today?

You need a crane kick in the face if you think of that is true!

Also gotta edit to my original post above i checked my gametime and its 900 hours game time not over 1500 lol
Hell no. Didn't know I could get it. Still trying to complete the queen's patrol mission to get that exotic (hint hint). Can't kill that Taken boss on my own because he disappears too fast.

I've literally helped 6 or 7 teams today's get their black spindle you should have messaged me to join you! i think myself and one more 300ish player would be enough to get you it but there is always next time, if your stuck somewhere and see me online feel free to send me an invite and i'll surely join if im not doing anything.
i got my second exotic sword today and want to keep using them against all them bosses lol
It's actually not a bad game, and I would have been fine had you said that it's a great game, or even that it is the best game of this generation. But to say that it is the only good game of the entire generation? Ell oh fucking ell
BREAKING NEWS: Destiny is now the worst game of all time
I did the Nightfall strike yesterday and did most of the work and got dick butt shit nothing. I wanted the Talesto but the guy who didn't do anything got it instead of me. I got some crappy legendary auto rifle you can buy off from the vendor.

Pretty sad it took 300 hours to realize that the rngesus in Destiny typically rewards the shitty players. That said, TTK is 1000x better than Destiny 1.0 was, $140 later and we almost got the game they promised us a year ago.
As for the rest of this thread, I'm surprised no one mentioned Shadow of Mordor and Wolfenstein: The New Order/Old Blood yet, both at the very top of the best games this gen, both multiplatform.

Yes I do....
I haven't played it mostly because it isn't up my alley, but I'd say there has been a pretty hefty number of truly brilliant and exceptional games this gen
I simply don't have enough time for all of these.
Spoken like someone addicted to an mmo. Wow players will say the same thing. When you get caught up in an mmo you feel like there is nothing else good to play. The reality is there is. You are just suffering from addiction. Just like the alcoholic who feels liquor is the only way to make it through his day, the truth is there are other more healthier avenues to take.
