This coming Tuesday, October 13th, Tess Everis will return to The Tower with a new look, a new storefront, and some new items to sell, courtesy of Eververse Trading Company. Initially, Tess will offer eighteen brand new emotes. Like the trio of emotes offered via The Taken King Collector’s Edition, these emotes are completely optional, and won’t impact the action game in any way.

To acquire these items, you’ll first need to pick up some “Silver,” a new in-game currency that will be available for purchase through the store associated with your console. Images and descriptions for each available emote, along with pricing information for Silver will be made available Tuesday, October 13th, alongside the launch of the in-game storefront right here on Bungie.net as soon as the content is live.

SOURCE

Apparently, these microtransactions will be used to subsidize free DLC and updates in the future.

You know, if this were any other company and any other game, I would be willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. But with how abusive Destiny has been so far, I know this will be terrible and a shitshow. Microtransactions have no place in a full priced retail AAA release. They are unacceptable, and I can see this being as terrible as all of Destiny's policies have been so far.

Because what this game needed was another potentially consumer exploitative mechanic.

People always bitch on COD, at least that franchise began as a great and pure game experience before its soul got completely consumed by Activision.

Destiny has ALWAYS been designed as a game... as a platform rather to milk the crap out of people.

And even still, we have people in this thread excusing Activision/Bungie's behaviour by saying: "It's only emotes, nobody cares"

Can't wait for Destiny 2, can't wait to see what else Activision has in store, can't wait to see what else they are going to sell as microtransactions.

no, its not. the multiplayer is a joke and turning into a bad titanfall clone. the campaign's, while enjoyable, are extremely shallow

I'm amazed by how Activision can prosper in this way, and by the people that want to defend practices like this.

There really is no difference between Evolve and Destiny, only that one flopped big time and the other became a massive success.

I just think the COD franchise has become stale and soulless, with developers not taking any risks or changes because Activision wants to milk it for what it is.

I do think Treyarch still delivers the most quality when it comes to COD (with COD 1 and 2 still the best ones IMO)... But that doesn't change the fact that it feels soulless to me, stuck on a repeat, making a COD is like going off a checklist...

So my question to you was, if you find the Treyarch games unaffected by this, what sets Black Ops III apart from the previous titles ? =)

Funny how the expansion only lasted me a week n a half, im already bored with the game and haven't played in the last couple of days. I think its time for me to get back into the Destiny bashing train, im sure mems missed me. Not only is the microtransaction disgusting, but from what i've heard, there will be no more raids until Destiny 2, which should be released Fall 2016. So for the next year, those still playing, will be doing nothing else but quests that tell you to go kill 1000000000 of certain enemy (make em as tedious as possible so it takes all your time=content for you to do in Activision's mind lol) to receive X weapon. There's some things i like about this game but that 20% is getting shit on by the other 80% that averages from poor to laughable.

Can Borderlands 3 come out already? and not some trash like the Presequel but a real Borderlands title made for current gen. Something tells me im asking too much from Gearbox.

Ah, well, that's easy- Treyarch are the only ones taking chances with Call of Duty. They are the ones who brought Zombies to the series, they are the ones who try to have the most balanced multiplayer, they are the ones who try to deliver on emergent storytelling in their Call of Duty campaigns, they are the ones who bring features to the series which become staples. With Black Ops 3, they are bringing an entirely new style of campaigns to the franchise, they are trying to revamp the multiplayer mode from the ground up, and they are doing a full rethinking of Zombies- I think that's more than enough to set it apart from the Cookie Cutter Call of Duty games that, say, Infinity Ward makes.

Of all the things I've criticized Destiny for, I don't think microtransactions for emotes really bother me that much. Completely optional emotes that don't really affect the gameplay. And if they are priced horribly, either Bungie will have to go back to trying to defend its actions because no one will buy them or they'll continue laughing all the way to the bank as Destiny players eat that shit up.

I wanted to like Destiny. Had a lot going for it, and maybe sometime I'll try The Taken King for like $10 or something. But the real king is returning with Halo 5, not this fraud of a soulless Bungie game. Hail to the Chief!

Good points,

Yes, Treyarch added new stuff to the mix with zombies. And they had a new approach to the campaign in Blops II.

So it does seem like they are bringing new stuff in with each new game. But I have not seen these big chances they have for Black Ops III. You say they revamped it from the ground up. But in my experience with the beta, and I'll admit it was a limited experience, it still felt like the same old.

So maybe I should applaud Treyarch, but again: as a whole, the series has become stale.

You say they're unacceptable, yet they're included because clearly gamers are utilizing this feature and have been for quite some time now.

So while these microtransactions are entirely optional and shouldn't affect your enjoyment in any way, the fault is entirely placed on gamers who made this method lucrative in the first place.

I haven't played Destiny, nor do I care to. But this is a silly thing to get worked up over.

I never understood the appeal for this game. Everything about the game screams very little effort put into a extreme money grab. In a years time there has already been the game itself, 3 DLC packs and now micro-transactions. I only played the beta but even then I could tell there was not going to be much content. These micro-transactions emotes should have been at least included in the last DLC. They are just easing into the micro-transactions too, next is armor skins and then probably something like legendary weapons.

Surprised? No. As bare bones as that game was I figured they were going to find some way to get more money from people other than buying an expansion pack.

You all can bitch about this all you want. People will buy this stuff and Activision will make money. If there weren't metrics out there that supported publishers doing this stuff, it wouldn't happen. EA makes TONS of money on MUT and FUT micro-transactions in their sports titles. (Madden and FIFA for those that don't know). You can spend real money for VC (Virtual Currency) in NBA 2K. This is the world we live in folks. The only way it stops is if people close their wallets and that obviously isn't happening.

lol. I mean, people here are really bashing something that is purely cosmetic...Every other game has this type of stuff, including CoD, Halo 5, etc. If it was a pay to win type of thing, I would be on board the "bash Bungine/Activision" train. But it's not. I didn't pay 20 dollars for emotes and I won't spend money for this...because...it doesn't offer anything to me. People forget that you don't have to spend your money on this type of stuff....

I don't see the issue because as I understand it, it is only for cosmetic stuff that has no impact on gameplay.

The minute they start selling stuff that gives a gameplay advantage is when Destiny officially becomes broken. Until then, happy gaming I say.

If you put a frog in boiling water, it'll jump out.

If you put a frog in cold water, then turn on the stove and let the water heat up, the frog will stay in the water and eventually die.

I feel this is a case of Activision starting out by putting gamers in cold water.

Thankfully I'm fine not needing to buy shaders... well, for now. I will say though, they have some of THE WORST shaders from every in game vendor, especially if you like playing Hunter, I almost wonder if they're purposefully designing ugly shaders in order to sell them. Anyhow, won't buy, I'm sure in another DLC wave or two they'll give you the option to custom shaders and I'll feel like I deserve such karma if I actually came to waste money on shader DLC.

I'm not worried, game is fun as hell, you can get the game and all DLC now for like $45 which is nothing for how much awesomeness it offers.

I don't get the hate. It's a good game, especially if you got two buddies for a strike team. Didn't play the "original" Destiny though, so I can't really tell what they changed. I will probably get tired of it soon because I'm not much for grinding but until then I will have gotten more out of it than most other games I recently bought.

Um these are just dancing emotes and have zero effects and no benefits to what you do in the game.....

players who like to have multiple dancing emotes will buy them and those like myself who couldnt care less about different dance emotes will just...ignore them, it does nothing of value to the game....

As long as it's not shit that can affect gameplay I don't see the big deal.

I think Destiny is fun for the most part, but I won't buy silly shit like that. If someone else will....more power to them.
