I think I've always thought of Nintendo being an underachiever, like they could be so much more with a more powerful system for example. I've often thought that they don't give out their 100%, that they always keep holding back. Like they have this huge amount of potential that they're just throwing away. Recently I've started to think that maybe they're trying as hard as they can and this is the best they can do.

Maybe they're just keeping their business safe, they did take a HUGE risk with the Wii so I don't know.

Bread_or_Decide

Even when they go for power they screw THAT up too. N64, better graphics than the PS2 but...CARTRIDGES. Gamecube...F-U third parties. So another system with great graphics get's gimped. Nintendo is Megan Fox. Super hot until you notice her big weird thumb and then it's like...ew.

[QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"] The article writer missed outon saying how Nintendo has completley abandoned the Wii. Unheard of for any #1 selling console. PS2 was supported even into the PS3 years. Bread_or_Decide

Being a well known user who HATES Nintendo and their systems with a passion, Bread, I thought you'd be happy about that. :|

I don't hate anything. I'm highly critical of Nintendo. I enjoyed my Wii, DS, and even got a 3DSXL a few weeks ago.

Oh, don't give me that. I remember EVERYTHING that you said about them (especially from our past conversions). You said the Wii was dead and you even add Nintendo to one of your most hated companies in a thread at one point. That's similar to what the GameCube "fans" did when the Wii came out. I've heard it all before.

Well the Wii IS dead and their last year of software sucked arse. And Nintendo is the most retarded of the three companies. Those things are true. Very true. Damn true. Do I sit there and scream at a piece of electronics all day? Nope. Did I love SMG 1 and 2? I sure did. They're the dumbest video game company on the planet. Doesn't mean they don't make a good game or two.

Here's my thoughts on it:

Nintendo's Software?? Awesome

Nintendo's Hardware?? ehhhh.....

Now when i saw hardware im talking exclusive about their home consoles. Admittedly i've greatly enjoyed all of their handhelds so far (game boy color, gba, ds, 3ds). I even think the 3ds eshop is better than the wii u's in a lot of ways. If there's anything wrong with the 3ds, it's the virtual console which is highly lacking. I think they would make a lot of money if they filled it with SNES and GBA titles. Instead they put a bunch of regular game boy and some nes games. I liked the game boy color, but besides pokemon red/blue/yellow i'd never go back and play a game boy game.

Their home consoles are another story. Admittedly I like the Wii. I think they tried to drag it out too long (i mean to me the console was basically dead by 2010 if that), and the initial novelty of it wore off after a year or two. But overall i think it was a cheap, solid complement to a 360/ps3 that you'd use when you were drinking with friends and wanted to play some wii sports or smash bros.

The Wii U on the other hand makes no sense to me. It's not that i hate the console in itself, the gamepad has some neat features and playing blops 2 while on the john is amazing. I even like the fact i play can console games on the gamepad while a nba or hockey game is on.

At the same time, who exactly were they trying to impress with this console?? The gamepad itself will scare away a lot of casual gamers (or if not, they will probably think their own tablet will be more than enough for their needs), and for enthusiasts, the console is frankly way underpowered (if rumors are true) than the next gen xbox and playstation. Which would be fine, except the wii u is also $300, $350 dollars. So you're making a true home console investment on a product that is in no way guaranteed in being future-proof. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

I think whoever is making the executive hardware decisions needs to be let go, and some reorganization at the top is in order for nintendo (at least in the hardware side). Their software side is fine, they could use some new AAA IPs but in general you know the games you get are going to be quality products. I'd be all for them going 3rd party if I wasn't worried about if their products would dip in quality like sega's titles did for years following their exit out of the hardware business.

Kind of agree with Bread here. They are the dumbest of the big three videogame company on the planet at least to some gamers, but at the same time they are one of if not the best game devs in the world. Its pretty baffling for the most part.

The biggest part of that article I don't necessarily agree with was the emotional letdown part. They only started to do that Wii generation for the most part, and really only happened on those casual riffs that the Wii went through unless you consider the no word at the end as an emotional letdown as well for this. Otherwise its a whole lot of making promises, failing to execute them properly (although I could say the same for all of them here), instilling hope to the fanbase since you got the franchises to do so, then the wait period, finally ending with no word at all until a year later.

Yep, thats the Nintendo I've always remembered. It works like a charm really and I still will keep buying their stuff and go through the same old routine once again.

Yes, even from the small sampling size of Nintendo fanboys from here, you can see that they're completely delusional.

Too bad Nintendo got called out for that when the 3DS released (though to many, it isn't a deal-breaker)

Nintendo is no longer a good company.  They are a inept, stubborn company stuck in the past with some great talent at its disposal that is incompetent in its management.  And yet people keep crowing Iwata as if he's Nintendo's savior.  He's not ENTIRELY responsible, but still that people can try to defend him give Nintendo's state today makes me laugh.  Nintendo needs a reorganization of its entire upper management as well as a change in its overall philosophy.  They seem to think they can do their own thing, ignoring the direction the industry is headed, and that it will have to follow them.  How arrogant.  No, it's the other way around.  Their legacy has gotten to their head and we're seeing the results.

I smell a nintendo fanboy whose been hooked by the DENNIS system.

This is no different than the standard "we're going to write stupid stories about __ Nintendo platform". Once Mario hits then we'll see the articles claiming Nintendo is back and blah blah. It's the usual and it's stupid.

So, it's wrong for one guy to be arrogant, but it's alright for the other?

Did you forget that Yamauchi's arrogance made Nintendo the controversial mess they are?

nintendoboy16

Sure.  If someone can back up their words or actions, or just be excellent at what they do, they can afford to be arrogant.  Doesn't make it right or likeable though.  Isn't it apparent from Nintendo's situation that something isn't quite right going on there?  Everyone always lays blame at Yamauchi's feet for where Nintendo is today, and that's horsesh!t.  He retired 8 years ago.  Besides, isn't it better for someone to run and bring a company to prosperity through arrogance better than one who lets it falter due to it?

Sure, the ramifications borne through Yamauchi's blunders are still reverberating through the company, but they are not beyond repair.  When are people going to start holding Iwata (not just him, but all the suits) accountable for Nintendo's current predicament instead of pointing their fingers to the past?  I also blame Yamauchi and his mistakes (many severe), but that's done and he's not running the show anymore.  It's almost a decade on.  If Iwata can't repair the damge that Yamauchi made and get Nintendo's ass in gear, then they need to find someone who can, A.S.A.P.

Like... censorship? Something Nintendo has tried to get off their backs since mid-late N64 era, even with the ESRB in place? It would (and should) have ended around then, but when a few gaming controversies show up as well as two "mature" games published by Nintendo bomb in sales, it doesn't.
