@Wasdie:
TDK was commenting once said goalposts had already been moved. I think we should place the goalposts back in their rightful spot and get back to belittling the PRO.
@goldenelementxl: From the actual source Engadget the quote is talking about ps4. Perhaps not the Pro which makes more sense.
"You want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think," Fares says, pointing to the PS4 running his game. "This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles."

So the entire premise of this thread is fake news. Sad!
I don't understand how someone can claim the Pro is holding developers back when it is currently the most powerful console on the market? That makes zero sense. The Xbox One and PS4 surely are holding devs back more. I think this comment can be dismissed pretty easily; if someone wants to throw daggers, throw it at the 1.31 teraflop machine that most people are trying to make compatible with their games.
That someone being a freaking developer himself? You know, the kind of people that opened up about how Wii U's hardware was crap, believed them, and called on "damage control" to sheep even just going by "wait and see"? Now you're doing that same damage control?
I too, have some fresh off the press hot takes!
Did you guys know water is wet and that the sky is blue!? :O

Not even sure at what he's trying to get at. No console ever will reach PC by default. I do agree that perhaps, perhaps, both Sony and MS could have tried a new CPU with their mid-gen refresh but according to rumours both were waiting for Rysen which didn't quite make it in time. That's the current BIG bottleneck across both machines. Something that most Gaming PC's don't have to deal with. While the GPU's in both machines isn't exactly a top of the line model that PC gamers can (and do) use, they aren't exactly crippling games either (yet, at least).
Though when he says "different games" I can't help but lol. Hardware alone won't make games different, in fact many times, hardware limitations are the things that push devs to thinking outside the box in the first place, thus creating different experiences (as whatever they wanted to do initially wasn't feasible for whatever reason). And that's true both from a game creation process and game tech process too.
A Way Out team member, Josef Fares who is a game director for the game was interviewed by Engadget and he was actually talking about the PS4 version of the game. During the interview he actually said that PlayStation 4 Pro is pretty much an old kind of system that really holds the developers back. This is actually what he said:
“Do you want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think. This is like a five-year-old PC. If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games. Most of the work developers put out there is to make them work on consoles.”

Shots fired! I do find it strange that he has taken aim at the PS4 Pro, when his game also has to work on the OG PS4 and Xbox One.
It is true, but to be honest Sony first party line up is impressive. Microsoft games don't excite me visually. Sony games do.
You can have all the power in the world, with console, but you got have games to show off that power.
The PS4 Pro costs $400.
It not really i got Horizon and Pro for 400 Euros. You have discount the game price realistically. So i got the Pro for 350 or less.
Should the Pro be cheaper, obviously, but when you the market leader (Sony) and gamers still buying the console, a price reduction is not likely.
Wait, the PS4 is a 4 year old console - and it's "like a 5 year old PC"? I have so many conflicting reactions to that assertion
PS4 Pro is a year old.

To be fair it is easier to have great movie graphics then game graphics. You seem to only care about graphics and not gameplay which is the normal Sony fan response. You should try Netflix though.
Think of netflix like a Sony game but without the annoying HIT X button every few minutes . Think of it this way as a Sony fan you probably get annoyed when you have to pick the controller back up every 5 minutes or so but with netflix you get the graphics and no more hit X button stuff.
I'm pretty sure the dev was referring to the OG ps4 and not the pro which makes a lot more sense. The XB1/PS4 are indeed holding things back.
This is what the dude actually said "You want the honest truth? This machine is not so strong as you think," Fares says, pointing to the PS4 running his game. "This is like a five-year-old PC. The author of the article in the OP is definitely creating his own narrative here.
To be fair I don't think we would see a difference in games even if console had more power.
Most of the biggest pc exclusives run on low end systems and don't take advantage of pc power rigs, LoL, WoW, Dota 2, counter strike, battlegrounds, hearthstone all run on potatoes.
I cant remember where I saw it but as said be for I saw a news article where developers said be for the release of the new consoles that they didn't want them and under powered. Developers warned sony and MS but they rushed them out any way.
So that would make the Scorpio a 4 year old PC? Fantastic. He's basically just shitting on consoles in general. If he feels that strongly about consoles he should just put his game on PC, there's no spoiling... except for 70/80% of the potential revenue of course.
The strongest GPU in 2012 was the GTX 680, PS4 Pro Polaris based graphics engine is superior so is the memory allocation.
@FastRobby: That typo hurt you feelings and agenda, sorry fanboy.
Lol what? No I just thought it was dumb
I find it funny that the dev saying it is working on some crappy looking indie game. When industry leaders such as Naughty Dog and Kojima have praised the hardware.
@nintendoboy16: The Wii U was released 7 years after the Xbox 360 and, in practice, rarely produced games that outperformed it in any significant way. Comparing the Pro to the Wii U is a silly thought when the Pro is not only over twice as powerful as the PS4, but also released a mere 3 years later for $100 more than the base model. Would it also be "damage control" to note that the Xbox One X will be the strongest console when it releases later this year? I admit I don't quite get your point.
All console hardware is, to a certain degree, "crap". That is the nature of building a console. If there are real bottlenecks in the hardware though, it would surely come from the base systems (Xbox One, PS4) and not the optional upgrades. The Pro is not a successor system and does not have exclusive games. All it does is give developers more power to work with.
this must mean xbone one is 5.5 years holding pc gaming back and one x 4.5.
console gaming is dead
Tell that to the 100+ million consoles sold this gen.
It's all good, I truly believe we are within 10-15 years of just about any type of game imaginable running on about any console or PC. By the time PS5 and whatever Xbox, Nintendo, possibly Atari? and whoever else is in the race rolls around, just about any game and genre will have enough resources to work on any of them.... just saying.
People still talking as though there is only ONE PC spec and every PC gamer has the same top of the range stupidly expensive PC which couldn't possibly be further from the truth.
Tell this moron to develop his game so it only runs on very high end PC's and see how many fucking sales he gets. Idiot.
@Basinboy: Then why are console games repeatedly among the best looking games available? The high end PC market cant support gaming by itself.
@Wasdie: They do care actually, if minimum spec for their game is a $1500 PC its probably not going to sell very well.
@goldenelementxl: This is absolutely not directed at the potential truth of the comment about the power of the PS4 Pro, but the Way Out team has really been putting their feet in their mouths since the announcement of their game. It started with that guy on stage who couldn't stop verbally masturbating about how game-changing this title is going to be............when it really looked pretty solid, but nothing that unique other than its prison setting..... And now they're shitting on roughly 50% of their market when the game launches by calling out Sony's console.... Great job, guys.... I'm sure your game's going to be a huge success......
The salt of PS fan in this thread lul
On the other hand, how many people own those super expensive current gen PC?
The GeForce GTX Titan X 12GB alone cost 1500 dollar

2017 - 2013 = 5 years. PS4 was released during the year 2013.
That's a stupid statement. "If consoles were as powerful as PCs are today, you would see all different games."
No shit. PCs cost like $1000-1500 on average. The PS4 Pro is $400 while the PS4 is $250.
This guy is an idiot.
and not the PS4 or the even worse Xbox 1?
Exactly. Sounds like that guy is either a PC or Xbox fanboy (since X1X is going to be more powerful than the Pro).
Is this really supposed to be news or something? Consoles have never been close to PC's. Even the Xbox one X is over 2 generations behind PC. The Nvidia 880 GTX had 5.7 TFlops performance. Add in a CPU's Gflops and you have an XBOX One X equivelant...that was 3 gens ago people, wake up. We're in the 1080 ti's now and the console gamer's are yapping on about PS4 Pro being old tech LOL

Reference GTX 980 Ti 6 GB has 6.06 TFLOPS at 1076 Mhz boost mode.
