Developers that you think are overrated

We talked about overrated games, but what about overrated developers? For me, I never really got the love for Remedy, at least in this forum. They make good AA games at best. It doesn't mean I don't like their games or that I don't like them. But they never really wowed me. I haven't played Control though. Maybe that will change my mind.

How about you, SW? What developers are overrated in your opinion?

Valve definitely gets my vote.

Bethesda. Do people still respect Bethesda? Doesn't matter, Bethesda is my answer.

Ninja Theory as an honorable mention.

• Rockstar - By far most overrated developers of all time. only great game they made is Max payne 3 other than all of their games are just bland open world. their best game is linear game for one they are open world expert.
• CDPR - The witcher 3 is most overrated game of this gen. their games lack good gameplay.
• Ubisoft post AC2 - After the success of AC2. all thier games become AC clone, Far cry is AC FPS, ghost recon is now military AC, watch dogs is modern day AC. and all of them are incredibly overrated.
• Naughty Dogs - Make movies, not games. their games include walking in straight line with scripted sequence.
• Capcom - Another shitty overrated console developers who make mediocre games from resident evil to DMC. only thier truly great game is RE7 and thats it.
• Bioware - Yeah people talk about them and they are ruined but the fact is they were never great to begin with. Dragon age is one of the most generic fantasy franchise on earth, Mass effect is shitty cover based shooter lable as RPG and one of the worst game i have played.
• DICE - Rehashing most stale and generic military franchise that is battlefield. and if they are not making battlefield they make trash like battlefront and mirrors edge.
• Machinegames - Turn wolfenstein into worst FPS franchise.
• Crystal Dynamics - Tomb raider reboot is worst game i have played and new avengers also looking bad.

As publisher they are fine. but as developers they dont make good games.

Just to be clear, naming these studios doesn't mean I don't like their games, I just find them to be overrated on how people view the studios as if they are Gods.

Respawn? I find them to be underrated despite Titanfall & Jedi Fallen Order to be great games but I don't see them getting higher praise these days.

Yea, Respawn is super talented. The founders were behind the original Modern Warfare, and I think they were also behind Medal of Honor Allied Assault which I loved back in the day.

Id, Capcom and Valve overrated?

On topic, MachineGames. Almost of their catalog is middling and not noteworthy and of the ones of not, the Wolf reboot was poo to begin with, culminating is a giant poo.

Allied Assault is the only game I've ever liked by them back when they where called 2015. I never was a fan of COD played 2 and 4 and it wasn't for me. I like the old school FPS shooters that aren't arcadey like Battlefield 2, SWAT 4, F.E.A.R. ect..

Battlefield 2 was also incredibly arcadey

SWAT4 was kinda tactical but it was not rainbow six raven shield.

people seemed to like that game about the mentally ill Viking lady for some reason.

DMC got good reviews I think?

Critic wise yes, but the fanbase loves to shit on it.

If you're talking about something like Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice, yea, that game can get fucked.

Nintendo. Nothing comes close.

Nintendo more or less single-handedly revitalized gaming after the Atari crash.

Literally everything we have now, is due in part to them.

Can argue about games and stuff, but them as a company? Big nope.

Rockstar (post 2008) - don't care how impressive your worlds are until you make a game where controlling the characters isn't a chore.

Naughty Dog - they make ok/good games with amazing production values. They seem to have bought in to their own hype and like the smell of their farts now

I would of said Rockstar but at least I really enjoyed GTAIII, Vice City and San Andreas.

Back in the day they were excellent. This has ended with the Wii generation. So if were talking about the current Nintendo, they're by far the most overrated for me, but if the og Nintendo is also included, then of course i wouldn't call them overrated at all.

Isn't the wii one of the most successful consoles of all time that opened up gaming to people who otherwise had no interest?

A 87y old can enjoy his/her game, but that does nothing to me. Games they've released through that era until now are mediocre for me

Rockstar, hands down. Not one of their games has good gameplay or gameplay that isn't compromised by Rockstar bullshit. They have world class writers (for video game standards), their production value is insane, and they have baller taste in music, but all that shit is ultimately the superficial aspect of a game. I care about the substance, and on that end Rockstar is straight bad.

And the worst part is, Max Payne 3 is proof enough that they can do way better (tho the game is still wack), but a lot of their games are actually intentionally that wack. Shame.

Agree completely. Rockstar wins this category hands down. Can't believe how many times I've fallen for the hype only to get incredibly disappointed. And they are kind of getting worse and worse. Their focus on realistic, weighty animations and real life "simulation" is making their games exceedingly tedious.

I agree with all of these (for other reasons), except MachineGames, since I've never played their games. Since they seem overrated. :P And I really like some of Capcom's games still, Monster Hunter World being fantastic.

I'll add Activision with their CoD games that sell like butter.

The praise Santa Monica got from God of War was pretty lame as well.

Blizzard in its current state, very overrated as well.

lol. I just plain don't enjoy their games. I can see why people think they're good, and I can't really fault them (except having way too much bullshit and cinematics in their games), so I wouldn't really call them overrated myself. Their games just aren't for me. Hack'n'slash in general has never been my thing.

And to be fair, Scalebound looked crap. I don't think you missed anything important.
