It does not seem to make a whole lot of business sense to do so. Unless Sony is paying them off. Maybe the developers are hedging their bets and thinking at some point the PS3 version will sell more than the 360.JiveT
well their primary reason was the dev time for the PS3 so they could get started earlier
that doesnt make sense, why would they want to develop a game on the ps3 and port to the 360 if ps3 so hard to develop for?pro-nathan-07
well to get an early start then port it over to the easier console I guess....idk.....cuz I think Infinity Ward had to put a whole different team with more people to make COD4 for the PS3...and I doubt most devs will be able to do that
I was watching AOTS...that's where I get all my news...haha j/k......but they were discussing the PS3 in the loop and the 2 guests said that multiplat games will soon be developed on the PS3 and ported to the 360 becuz the PS3 is so hard to develop for....so have the tables turned with multiplats and the 360 will now be getting the inferior version? I hope not :(chikenfriedriceVirtua Fighter 5 on the 360 is inferior?

i'm talkin about games that come out on the same date...not months after
The PS3 has lower specs. That's why the 360 version normally look better. PS3 has a Geforce7800 and I don't know what the 36o has but its' in the 8 series.Nerkcon
360 has the equivalent of an X1900XTX, but it's a completely different architecture so it's not comparable.
shame
devs should just make games for the 360 / wii
it's easier to develop, therefore taking less time and money .. which they can spend on future projects
if all devs did this, the PS3 would die off and they wouldn't have to worry about lack of software sales by not catering to the PS3 fanbase
problem solved

Oh.Lemmings really shouldn't be scared by this, it's actually a win-win situation. 360 games will still look as good and PS3 games will finally start realizing their full graphical potential. I guess this entire shift is happening because going from open gl (I think that's right??) to DX9 is easier than going from DX9(360) to open gl(PS3).
And yeah all this is true because I've seen multiple developers say the exact same thing.

espoac
well as long as the games are the same and not a inferior version I wouldn't care either way...cuz it sucks for cows now when the game is slightly better on the 360 and it would suck for lemmings if the PS3 version is slightly better lol....can't we just be equal?:)

If you were a company planning to make a multi-plat game...would you rather release a good version and a poor version, or two good versions for the respective consoles?
It makes perfect sense. Right now, developers are making games on the 360 then porting them to the PS3 with results ranging from disasterous, to (at best) roughly equal. Meanwhile, they have the massive headache of trying to slap a development square peg into a round console hole.It would be SIGNIFICANTLY easier for developers planning on working multi-plat anyway, to START with the PS3 and then port to the 360 which is familiar and easy regardless.
This way they are guaranteed to make a game that runs great on both consoles and increase their sales, as opposed to making two versions of a game but nobody really buys one because it sucks. PLUS they can't just blame the hardware anymore with games like Uncharted coming out that look AND play great.

makes sense to me
Solid business move. Lots of software sells on the PS3.DaysAirlines
Not surprising really...
Devs are forced to use the ps3 as the lowest common denominator due to it's memory restrictions.
This doesn't necessarily mean that the ps3 versions will be "better", they just won't continue to suck they way they have :)
ss_49
You, my friend, are very misinformed. PS3 the lowest common denominator because of memory restrictions? The PS3 has the same amount of memory as the 360. It's only structured differently. The 360 is the lowest common denominator because it lacks a universal hard drive. This is a much bigger issue for developers than memory being unified or partitioned. Wow.
Why do you think Rockstar is developing LA Noire and another completely new franchise exlusively for the PS3? It's because Microsoft screwed them over by choosing to sell a 360 SKU without a hard drive. The 360 is the lowest common denominator when it comes to game development. Sorry.

lol i dun think thats it... well some of that sounds right... sony released there new dev kit so yea... lol neways the thing is form what ive heard the cell is not hard to dev for, but just diffrent, and again form what i heard the reason they are doing this is to take adv of the PS3 power and include as much as posable, so when it is ported it can be downgraded to fit the consle ...and agian thats form what i heard so i dont want to hear all the fanboys spazing out about stuff lol

Lower specs?? LOL!! The PS3 is more powerful than the 360 in every way.
um no...the 360 has some advantages and the PS3 has some advantages
