Diablo 3 is certainly the weakest Blizzard game at launch.

I think all Diablo 3 players are aware of this, and I am certain I am not in the minority by saying this:

Of all Blizzard's games, this is plagued with the most issues. I did not play Diablo 2, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, or older Blizzard's titles at launch because I was too young back then; I also did not play WoW at launch.

So that leaves me with two games, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. I must say this: Starcraft 2 had a far stronger launch and it seems to me that the developers know what they are doing with the game; it gets better patches after patches. Diablo 3, on the other hand, is still quite messy and it had one of the worst video game launches ever.

All in all, Diablo 3 is not a great game still. It now merely stands as a good game, and certainly not Blizzard's standard.

So let me get this right, you've only played SC2 an D3 at launch, but feel that is adequate experience to make that sort of claim, when WoW also had an extremely unstable launch? Yes, D3 launched in an extremely rocky manner. Blizzard made Diablo 3 not for the fans, not for the game itself, but to keep from losing its license. The original creators of the game, for the most part, no longer work with Blizzard. Rather, they have a hand in Torchlight and Guild Wars.

As one of those who have waited ten years, I'm disappointed with the game. I cannot, and will not, be happy with it. It's a shame Blizzard didn't let it go; the original brains behind the Diablo games would have done a much better job.

At least no game other than Starcraft 2 fried GPUs in the main menu

The gameplay is very repetitive. Basically all you do is spam-clicking on a bunch of units, while finishing very easy quests. And lets not begin with the story in the game...

I'm not a Diablo expert by any means, but isn't Diablo 2 gameplay pretty similar to Diablo 3?

They've succeeded with Guildwars and Torchlight. One failed game, versus the names they've succeeded with? Losing them killed Diablo. I actually forgot about Hellgate, until you mentioned it just now. Although, there was clearly enough of a cry for them to bring it back, even as a free to play from another company.

You are correct. I've seen a LOT of Diablo "fans" QQing about the repetitive game play. All of the Diablo games have similar gameplay.

Cheap/lazy/poor implementation of difficulty, boring stat system, boring items in a 'loot' game. It's just a game of hard gear-checks(grinding) and nothing else.

Also the zone randomization kinda sucks, too much of the levels is the same each time, most objectives are always in the same direction.

Diablo 3 is the best Blizzard game since Diablo 2. It's so masterfully polished to excellence. I can't stop playing, and I for one am enjoying the supposedly "weak" story. The characters are interesting (I love the dialogue from my Wizard and follower) and things have been somewhat unpridictable thus far. And I can't get over the CGI. It's pretty mindblowing.

Nothing killed Diablo. It's still just as great as ever. You people suffer from some kind of mental illness if you can somehow like D2 while at the same time dislike D3. It makes no sense I tell you.

There's also the assbackwards weapons mechanics. For the longest time I couldn't understand why my wizard did poor damage. Until I realized spell damage is directly dependent on weapon dps.

Doubtful. SC2 is simply SC1 with slight alterations and updated graphics. D3 is an evolution of Diablo 2 and all other dungeon crawlers before it. It's the very pinnacle and culmination of the sub-genre it's predecessors invented. It's... the greatest dungeon crawler ever made.

It's something fun to do while I listen to Pandora. It could eventually lead to some decent spending money. Some of the prices people are paying on the RMAH are ridiculous (talking $50+ for one item, and these are in the level 30 range where people are playing Nightmare difficulty). ****ed up world we live in, and I plan to take advantage.

Makes sense to me. Diablo 3 is a lot more simplified compared to D2. D3 also have boring environments. Act 1 and 2 are fine, but act 3 was lame, and act 4 was lame as hell.
I went from "Awesome, wonder what heaven looks like!" to "ok, so this is it?". And all of the bosses talks way too much. Especially Diablo. He went from cool and scary in D2 to an annoying idiot in D3.
I like the game, though, but I expected more.

Streamlining =/= simplification

A lot of the stuff they removed from D2 was hardly worth keeping in the first place. Most people ended up with the same one or two character builds regardless of all the options. And people accuse D3 of being an endless grindfest. Well wtf do they think D2 was!? Have they completely forgotten about the cow and Baal runs? Those weren't grinding?

D3 is more fun to play than D2, but less fun to keep playing. I think baseline, classes and skills are more interesting and actually playing the game is more fun, involved, etc. The reason people kept playing D2 though was that the game rewarded you with a great loot system. This isn't the case in D3. The loot is bland, the majority of legendaries are awful, and the drop rates...

Drop rates are a special kind of abysmal and were made this way because of the integrated AH. Since items are easily traded and the good items will stay in circulation for months if not years, drop rates were purposely made awful to prevent people from gearing up too fast. The side effect of this is that you don't gear yourself. You farm gold and buy from the AH or dump real money on the RMAH. The thing that kept me coming back to D2 was all the great loot that dropped. I had a perfect mara's, perfect dracul's, and multitude of other great items that dropped for me. I cleared 8 player Hell difficulty solo with items I found. D3 is a matter of farming money and buying gear with minor stat upgrades. It's bland and boring, and not easily fixable.

SC2 launch didn't have technical problems, but the game was pretty broken at first. Took them more than a year to achieve an acceptable state of balance.

Doubtful. SC2 is simply SC1 with slight alterations and updated graphics.

Master_ShakeXXX

Dude, tell that to a Starcraft 1 fan and you'll never hear the end of it.

D3 is to D2 what SC2 is to SC1: although both sequels did well, they are not as appreciated by old school fans. Gameplay wise, they've "dumbed down" for the masses while following the same general idea.

Most of their work goes into King. A lot goes into SC2 as well. If you have any idea about King's expansions you'll get a picture of how much work goes into King as opposed to Diablo.

Please get your head out of your ass, for everyones sake.

Coming from the guy who thinks WOW and Titan Quest have better graphics. I think it's your head that needs removed from the anus.

You can't spell predictable.

Your argument is invalid.

lol wut. you got 1 out of 2 right there.

graphics are the least of this games problems.

I'm pretty sure you tried to argue that WoW had better graphics in that D3 thread I made. Maybe I'm mistaken. Either way, Titan Quest does not at all come close to D3 on a visual level.

What is King?

Titan?

I think Blizzard is mainly interested in Titan right now.

People can repeat how activision isn't influencing blizzard all they want, but I don't believe it. It is clear they still have the experience from the past and are freaking talented but it's also shimmering through that either their formula is not adapting to the times, or does not share the same focus on pleasing the fans.
It's difficult to say for sure because they do not make that many games in a short time (Which is a good thing imo.)

King is the almighty colossal 8 year reigning juggernaut of the MMO genre.

I hope it falls to the ground someday. Titan might be the one that will slay it.

Guild Wars 2 is promising, but it is not next-generation, whereas Titan is being developed as a true next-gen MMO.

I've heard that the game isn't as good as everyone was expecting, but why is that? any particular reason?

madsnakehhh

Story is mediocre at best and terrible at worst depending on how much you care about the setting or last 2 games.

Serious balance issues in hell and inferno difficulty. Much less about actual difficulty and much more about gear checks, cheap enemy combos, and incredibly punishing damage.

Still plenty of lag issues. You may see you dodged an attack but nope you didn't the latency says so, enjoy yet another frustrating death. And that's not including the disconnects and the fact that nephalem valor drops when you leave even if you didn't want to.

Terrible item randomization. I mean how many times must I see a rare crossbow as a DH only to identify it and see it has intellect strength and no damage at all? How many times must I waste crafting materials on garbage that nobody would wear? For every semi-decent piece you get you have to wade through hundreds of items that are completely useless junk. They want you to use the auction house to buy upgrades and it's painfully obvious.

Definitely feels unfinished. The RMAH didn't even go up until almost a month after release, and even still they haven't released the commodity or gold sales. PVP is not in. Plenty of stats like attack speed are fundamentally broken and only now getting fixed. Builds aren't balanced. Some minor but still very noticeable bugs made it into the final game.

I'm actually saying this as someone who still plays all the time. Mostly because my friends are. The game is fun and captures the addictive feel but it has some glaring flaws compared to blizzard's usual pedigree.

All I do now is run siege breaker, and heart. That's all that's worth doing.

I'm most likely taking a break until 1.03 as most of my friends just don't play this anymore.
