DICE responds to MW2 announcement of no dedicated servers

its good to know that theres another studio out there that isn't intent on screwing over its original fanbase.

I'll take this with a pitch of salf coming from the devs that released BF:BC on consoles only. Still least devs are sticking up for us pc lot. and LOL at the last comment on the article.

Yesterday, Infinity Ward announced during a webcast that Modern Warfare 2 will not have dedicated servers or a server browser. A couple DICE developers have spoken out about this announcement, and have said dedicated servers are a big part of the communities needs. Thanks BF-News.de.

We feel it's important to support the unique community needs of the PC community. Dedicated servers are a big part of this, and we recognize that requirement. We're putting a server browser and matchmaking in 1943 PC and the same features are intended for BFBC2. We're working hard on the PC version with a dedicated team building and molding the game so it is not a console port. This team is lead by DICE developers responsible for Battlefield 2. Very experienced and hardcore PC gamers.

Releasing a game or games for consoles doesn't mean they have betrayed us. Besides, BF BC is a great game.

*sniffle* it makes me so happy they said what they did. If CoD MW was a new trend I would.... I would..... not play MP FPS anymore. My favorite genre.

Considering 1943 was pretty much a BF2: WW2 Minigame, I wouldn't feel too ripped off.

getting upset because they make console games, too, is silly. Especially since many PC gamers also game on consoles, like me.

Trust me, the vast majority of PC gamers don't feel this way.

BF is a PC fanchise, or was. BF:BC is an amazing, amazing game. It does sadden me that the focus has shifted to consoles but as long as the PC still gets support, and not console ports but real PC games, I will be happy. I gotta admit, though, BF:BC was so much fun it only needs tweaks and of course the benefits of PC communities.

PC gamers already have BF 1943, it's just called BF 1942.

Not even remotely. Plus, there are things about 1943 that suck really, really bad, and things that rock. But 1943 is nothing like playing 1942. Not even remotely close. Just because they are noth WW2..... I mean jeez... Why do you guys have to make PC gamers look bad?

Impossible to please audiene lol? PC developers have been screwing the PC over for years now, bad ports, waiting for delayed games etc.

BF1943 got delayed the whole year nearly compared to the console version..... MW2 not including mod or dedicated serversv lol? Thats the whole point of PC gaming.

I think you will be correct, it will get a huge profit on PC. However, I think it will have less sales compared to MW1 and more piracy compared to MW1. I hope I am wrong, however.

I am pysched. I am still a little annoyed that BF 3 isn't here but I love BF:BC. I played the hell out of that game. I am not really a hermit I just prefer PC's. But I can't go without my Fable 2 and Demon's Souls; Uncharted; Dead Rising (the original); you get the idea. My 360 died, though. I will replace it before Fable 3.

I love the original Halo but I gotta tell ya the original CoD being one of my favorite games of all time I can't stand where the series went. In other words, it being the Halo of this generation is not a good thing to me.

MW 2 PC is really in no jepordy or 'flopping'. Alot of the whiners are pirates, and alot of the whiner (like me) will still be buying it (like me).

I played alot of the first on console, so I know what it'll be like, and it's not the end of the world.

I'm more upset about a lack of mods than latency issues.

Nice to see them taking advantage of Infinity Ward being jerks. Lately EA has been really proactive when it comes to creating goodwill in this fashion. Making themselves out to be crusaders of supreme PC justice puts them in a precarious situation where they're more vulnerable to criticism though. I now hold them to a higher standard when it comes to related issues. Walk the walk.

And what this PR move does for me is remind me that DICE needs to get all their side projects out of the way so they can focus on BF3 already. That's what most PC gamers would prefer I'm sure.

I could never play a PC game without a community server and mod's (user maps are always the best). I never pirate, either. So, I won't miss the game, though. Without servers that turn the leveling and AI choppers and stuff off the game is a total mess. For me it was only playable mod'ed.

Does anyone particularly care much for a PC version of Bad Company 2 anyway? It is a console series first and I expect there to be parity between the different versions. So their "console port" jab rings a bit hypocritical to my ears at this point. Up to them to prove me wrong.

Lets see what becomes of BC2 and BF3 before crucifying them. BF2 wasn't THAT long ago, it sold over 2m and is still 6th most played game in xfire, they know where the BF audience is. Since then they've brought BF2142 and add-ons for both as well as BF Heroes.

Bad Company and BF1943 were their gate to console market and they most likely didn't want PC versions stealing the spotlight, especially considering that 1943 in turn would had stolen the spotlight from Heroes.

Not to mention all the hassle tweaking the new engine for PC might be, I'm confident BF:BC2 will be great on PC and BF3 will retain its PC focus, even more so after their recent statements.

I am happy to hear that DICE still supports the PC strongly. Probably why Battlefield 3 is coming exclusively to the PC.

BF 1943 and BFBC 2 will hold me off until that.

personaly I don't see anything that DICE could add in BF3 that won't already be in BC2...

maybe playable jets, but most people hate those and play on infantry only servers anyway, so...

well let hope that they releasing a good BC2 on PC, but what i have seen of the Mirrors Edge port (2 month latter+physx graphics) dont let me doubt it.
