Like i used to have so much fun finding games and buying them, not knowing if they were good or bad, and it seemed like i never had any bad ones. But now that i have reviews, it seems like i'm having less fun playing bad rated games, like i need a reason to say they're not good. Like if i were to play a game before it's reviewed, i'd have probably more fun playing it then after its reviewed

Why don't you just tell yourself that the review is just another opinion and it may help you get over the feeling that you should be trying to point out the good parts of the game?

Reviews are fine but I'd never let them affect whether or not I enjoy the game. I've had a lot of fun with some games that GS rates in the 6's and 7's.

Totally. I remeber back in the year 97. And goldeneye.  Good times. ;-;

But yes, we must remember that reviews are just peoples opinions.

Gotcha Force, scored a 5 here. I STILL love that game to this day. 3 Years of fun.

I have never forgiven gamespot for that review.

Earlier today I found GS's review for the original Super Smash Bros... 7.5.

Not that i've really let ratings influence me, this just tells me not to trust them at all.

Totally agree with you TC.  I hate Gamespot's reviewing simply because they rate games too tough and scare people away from buying games from new franchises/genres.  Back when I was a kid, I had all sorts of NES/SNES/GENSIS games and even if they were rated bad I still played them and enjoyed it very much.

I have fun playing games with or without reviews it really doesnt make that much of a difference. Reviews just give me a heads up on what to expect from a game.. I usually dont read the whole review anyways just the score and up's/down's of the game. I only use Gamespot and Game Informer for reviews.

Why be lenient?

The tougher GS is the better. It will allow devs to realize that their games need improvement which just turns out to be better for us gamers in the end.

It's ridiculous to see so many sites handing out 10's so easily.

Well considering Goldeneye's score......

Anyways it depends, there's a point when you feel like that but quickly got over it when seeing that some of the games I enjoyed a lot had low reviews and other ppl also agree that are ''underrated'' .

Ive always used reviews to determine what games I wanted to buy heck I even use them to determine what games I want to rent, I really dont like wasting my money. I find the ppl that review games over at IGN to have the same taste and opinions, so anything rated below a 7.3 I usually stay away from.

one time when i was younger i bought Legend of dragoon i think the games was AA quality. yesterday i checked gamestop and it got a 6.3 sure as hell wasn't a 6.3 to anyone and good thing at the time the internet wasn't so accesible cause anyone who played it will say AA or higher. the problem you have is that you need to look at games you like, if you like an RPG and it gets a 6 you may still like it. it's a 6 to Casuals to to people who are into the genre might think it's AA or AAA. Example Dragon ball Z buokai to Dragon Ball Z fans this is a AAAA to regular casual who know nothing of DB(wich is how they review it) it's a 7.

I totally agree with you dude. I remember I use to enjoy games so much before reviews meant so much like they do now. Prime example is Dead To Rights for the xbox. Man I loved that game so much but yet it flopped most places. Back then I didnt even look at reviews and i really enjoyed the game so much. Now a days I probably wouldnt enjoy it as much since it flopped pretty hard

I always read a few reviews before I buy a game.  Gives me a much more educated view on the game, other than box art cover.

I like to know about what I am buying.  And for the most part, as long as you read 5 or so reviews from different sites, it has always given me a fairly accurate outlook on the game.  There are always some exceptions, but they are far and few between.

this part of your post is all you baby.  *makes that insane jester with his finger going over his lips*

but if you have such bitter thing about reviews then watch game play.

review are ment to give you highs and lows of the game and info so you dont buy a horrable game.

some places wont take back a game after you've played it for a new one.

That's not what I mean, I say that using Goldeneye to say something against reviews is kinda out of place.

But that might be true but then you might have been biased towards some other games, reviews aren't totally bad, thnx to them I have come accross many great games I'd have hardly picked up if I saw them on the shelve or maybe even someone else playing them, but true they aren't law either.

I completely agree with the original poster. Times have changed though and more games seem to be pumped out than they used to be, so for iffy titles I like to check reviews.
Although I feel lf I always checked reviews I would have missed out on games like 'Space Station: Silicon Valley" or "Chameleon Twist". The most fun I've had playing a game in the past couple years has been playing "gun" which i don't think got fantastic reviews. Then again, I seem to be looking for something different that many of the reviewers do. I like a shorter game, 10-12 hours is fine with me. I'd rather rent a game and beat it than have to dedicate forever. I guess it's in a similar way people don't like three hour long movies.

reviews are for casuals. if your a hardcore gamer and you like shooters you prob will like a game more than someone who's only played 1 or 2 shooters. you just want a shooter but the casuals wants something he can easly get into and thats what reviews are based on.

I hate reading reviews and never did back in the day, it ruins the experience totally, i like to play the game and judge for myself if its good or not. Its good to read the reviews after you have finished the game to know if other people felt the same way you did. This is why people should never rely on reviews, it will just make alot of games seem less fun, thinking that the game didnt live up to the hype.

Ive learnt a lesson from Zelda TP, reading reviews and the hype was so big that it didnt live up to the expectations. :?

I like to read the reviews for the descriptions of gameplay and how it all comes together, that's the most important part to me. I generally only use the final score as a vague guideline, not the be-all-and-end-all. I've played and enjoyed several brilliant games that scored merely average here.

your right a game like Super Paper Mario and Zelda come to mind they got 8.8 cause of no voice acting but to fans of the series thats not even important. me personally with long games i listen to my MP3 player half way thru i get board of the music and i just wanna play the games while listening to my own music.

I don't base my purchases on review scores.  I base my purchases on review writting.  About 95% of the time after reading a review I can figure out if I would like the game or not.  We all have different likes and dislikes that can heavily influence a score.  Personally I love reviews cause I bought alot of crappy games as a kid and I've really reduced those numbers nowadays (damn you BMXXX!!!!!).

HAHA BMXXX i didn't even need to read a review on that i knew it would suck. i'm like you i can read a review and determane if i'lll like it the Score means little if they deducted points cause the game didn't have voice acting, akward controlls etc etc. like i said they review for casuals they don;t wanna give a game only Hardcores can love an 10 cause then all the casuals that buy it won't come to this site anymore.

LOL, you're 14, you never even lived in the days of no internet reviews.

Anyways, I agree with the TC sort of. I don't like these internet reviews because usually I feel quite differently but it's hard to just ignore these scores when buying a game and the reviews come out right around launch or even before launch so many times there are reviews of a games out on launch day and sometimes that takes away the excitement of the launch of the game.

I liked the days of magazine reviews. Games that I was really hyped for, I'd be on launch, but if I missed any gems, I'd read about them and pick them up.

I didn't need reviews back when there was no security system at the local Record Town.  We would go there once a week and three of us would come out with no less then 9 games.  Then I could play them and if I didn't like them I could return them for 100% profit or sell them to kids at school.  But since I have become a more honest person the occassional review might prevent me from wasting my skrill.

I had more fun gaming before system wars!

I dont now...nor have I ever cared what others say about a game im interested in. I make my own decissions on them.
