Yes, it actually did. I was skeptical, but they actually pulled off a good game.
I thought the series was dead; all of the games have pretty much sucked since AC3.
I voted no. I saw it running on a PC with a 1070, thought the XBoneX version might come close graphically... it doesn't. The wife liked it for a week or so though, so there's that.
Yeah I think so... I especially like how the combat feels in Origins compared to the older games. Feels a lot more rewarding.
Having said that, the later AC games I really enjoyed actually (Black Flag is still my favourite).
Yes, great game however if Ubisoft decided to end the Assassin's Creed story on that high note, moving on to a new IP while keeping the gameplay but taking it to a different universe/story/setting, I'd be ok with that too. Kinda like Dark Souls to Bloodborne.
Loved it. Hopefully it's japan nxt
That would be cool. Or China. Martial arts and stealth combat.
No.
While not a bad game, it's not an Assassin's Creed game. The series has slowly deteriorated, much like Splinter Cell has in it's own way, from a stalking and ambushing stealth game to a run-of-the-mill hack and slash game. Gone are the high-suspense moments of plotting your attack, then executing it with perfection; no, now you just wade in and swordfight everyone. Done. No challenge, no creativity.
It's not a popular opinion, but I truly believe that AC: Unity was the height of Assassin's Creed's excellence. The setting was perfect, Paris was flawlessly rendered into digital format (I mean, did you go inside Notre Dame? See the detailing in some of the fancy homes? DAMN!), the character was a likable rapscallion of upstanding character, and most importantly you acted like an assassin by hiding, escaping, ambushing, and so forth.
With that said, all the other things I love about Assassin's Creed--the historical settings, the protagonist, the brief glimpses into the current time for some perspective and Abstergo, and so forth--are present in the game, so I still thought it was a good game.
But to revitalize the series, they would have to go back to the old formula, and incorporate the fundamentals they managed to master over the years into it. Would love to see the series go to Japan where you are a ninja, then they'd have to make it about stealth.
@mrbojangles25: yeah unity's graphics were truly a next gen title.
Many will not want to hear it but ubisoft brought us into next gen. I was mesmerized by unity, how big the crowds were, how detailed everything was.
It ran like crap on most systems because it was demanding on the hardware and you could certainly make a case with optimization, but let's face it, when you look at the graphics and the amount of npc's on screen, this was not going to run well on any dated hardware.
Of course optimization did improve performance drastically, but I have a feeling they kinda nerfed syndicate because of all the problems they had with unity. I still need to play the game though but that will be soon, it's free with games with gold in a couple of days.
Haven't played origins yet either, but the combat did look nice though.
Well considering I've only played 1, 2, Black Flag and Origins I can say the franchise is still fresh for me.
Nope. Same shit, different day. Didn't take long for me to get bored with it and move to another game.
I will go back and finish it one day though...maybe.
The gameplay/loop didn't get tiring for me. Clearing out enemy garrisons with stealth never gets old. Exploring the tombs is pretty fun. The side quests have cool little plots. The extra fun stuff like Trials of the Gods, the gladiator arenas, chariot racing, there's just so much content. Again, I don't care if they do another Assassins Creed game like this, but they need to do some sort of game like this, I don't care what they call it.
Not to mention, visually, this game in 4K + HDR is a stunner.
Nope, too long for it's own good, not enough interesting side quests to move on, since you are forced to do them so you have a high enough level to continue with the main quest.
That's not entirely true, because i'm at level 55 completed all the main missions and still have around 25 side missions still available.

How did you kill the targets who have a skull symbol over their heads?
@Epak_: If i wasn't on/near their level i would use the smoke screen upgrade (use X to dodge then press Y right after) and it knocks them on the ground and you can get a few hits in before he gets up, that and i had the upgrade that lets you start each fight with a full special meter.
But it only works if you're around 5 levels from him, ie, you lvl 35 him 40 etc.

Alright, I think I have both of those upgrades. Maybe I'll finish it some day, although I really felt like I was done with the game when I had killed the Lizard, Hyena, Scarab and Crocodile, but then I had to go talk to Cleopatra and she gave me new targets, I was like **** that I'm done lol.

You should go and do the last targets as you get to play as his mrs and there are some ship battles.
Got it for PC, played about 4 hours... put it down and never went back. In fact, I had completely forgot that I bought it until this thread.
For sure. I love the earlier AC games, but there was very little left Ubi could do with the formula.
So, fresh start with ACO was just what the series needed.
Mind you, if they make a city based AC game in the future, they should use the old formula, the same they used in Unity and Syndicate. Because it just works better in crowded cities.
ACO gameplay formula works very well in the open world, but it would not work in, say, the Paris we had in Unity.
I liked it very much actually, they removed a lot of the pointless collecting stuff and copied just enough from TW3 and a few other games to make it new yet still familiar. It's not an amazing game, but I did find it enjoyable enough to spend about 60 hours with it. And it looks simply breathtaking.
