What do you guys think? Both companies have been pretty outspoken about the JRPG decline, or did the JRPG developers do this to themselves?

Yea I doubt you play them. That's like say all WRPGs stories are some sore of Tolkien Lord of the Ring rip offs.they killed it, frankly, i wish they would have. All jrpg stories are more or less the same.

Same could be said for WRPGs.they killed it, frankly, i wish they would have. All jrpg stories are more or less the same.

Wouldn't JRPG developers be the one killing their own games? Western arrogance is getting quite big if you ask me.
Yea I doubt you play them. That's like say all WRPGs stories are some sore of Tolkien Lord of the Ring rip offs. its just not my thing. The stories always involve legends and a big purple dragon always comes out at the end.[QUOTE="kipohippo021"]

You remind me of the main character from Memento. The best JRPG Ive ever played came out a month ago, so I dont think so.

I read a basic summary of it and played through the game. Thought the story was great.
Read an in depth summary of the plot the other day. Thought the story was amazing.
The characters are a bit lacking though, run of the mill for the most part.

This.
That article is full of crap. The guy from Bioware said FF13 was not an RPG, not JRPG's in general. He then claims he takes the high road, oh the irony. Yes, the high road, that would be the Fox news high road of misquoting people for your own indulgence.

Atleast give it a try when you get the chance.
I don't think any company making WRPGs had anything to do with it...I stopped playing JRPGs because of the linearity - no such thing as "New Game", just a restart.

The only game that comes to mind is Breath of Fire II. I found a video of fight near the end of the game where the group fights a purple dragon. Half way through, a second purple dragon makes an appearance; can't beat that. =P
On topic: I'm still enjoying some of the JRPGs being released. So I don't believe those two companies have killed the JRPG; not for me at least.

I was having a hard time enjoying JRPGs this gen until I started playing Eternal Sonata. This game is awesome and really reminds me of JRPGs from old.

Oh yeah? I've actually played only three JRPGs from this generation, so maybe I'll check Eternal Sonata out sometime. Just recently purchased a DS, so I have a feeling I'll be picking up a few more JRPGs.
HD killed the JRPG. Or at least severely harmed it's offerings.

I'm really hoping the 3DS finds a median between presentation and budget with affordibility in this genre. But HD might not be the problem, I think it may just be lack of keeping schedule, I don't see why JRPGs need to take so obnoxiously long to come out.
