Poll Did id design the best FPS levels in the world? (38 votes)

Yes 55%
No 45%

In this current generation, id sofware are a mere shadow of their former glory. Once titans of the genre, each game a significant event for the industry, they now lay among the massed plebs outside the void of Call OF Duty.

In order to modernize to what Publisher perceive as the modern consumer standard, id's rubik cube like designed levels riddled with secrets and death traps that make Dark Souls seem limp, have been replaced with titles such as "Rage", a game in which the player walks in a narrow straight line, while men run towards the player, any semblance of resource management, non existent.

It appears, id have conducted a self lobotomy for the sake of profit.

But were they really that good? To the point, games such as Doom and Quake, were arguably the greatest level design in any game to date?

Is any modern FPS even comparable?

@uninspiredcup: yeah, dont multi-quote like an asshole. i'm not going to give you a pinpoint reply on all of your broken-down gripes the way you'd like. but i have gone back to play the doom games recently with the XBLA versions of Doom 1&2. youre making a case out like i dont like the games. all i said was the level design is bad. the only thing that worked about them was that it was simplistic. but something that "works" is not the same thing as having the"best" level design. sorry i dont agree with yout opinion, but pretending i dont have the credentials as a rebuttal shows you dont know what you are talking about. and shows you are an jerkoff. next time, just ask instead of accusing. Also, fucking checkers isn't the same thing as a video game or video game level design, lol.

I respect your opinion.

ID made some fun levels back in the day, though I'd pick Dark Forces: Jedi Knight as my nominee for best level design ever. More recently I thought R6:V was really well done from beginning to end.
