I'm not buying a Wii until more games come out. Why should I? For an extra 50 bucks I can get Gears, RS6, GRAW, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, and a lot more I don't feel like listing. The 360 is the best buy right now in my opinion.

For an extra 50? O You mean for the crappy 360 but you forgot an extra 50 dollars a year for live? Also the extra 10 per game?

1) We've already debated this, read the rest of the thread, I got more specific and changed my post by explaining things more.

2) You don't need Live. There are a lot of games made soley for SP and only a few games require Live, like the FF11 port. You don't need Live, and at least we have a decent online service. I'd pay 50 bucks a year for Nintendo's so I wouldn't have to put up with friend codes, but this debate is over. Read the other thread pages.

At least "we" have an online service? Are you employeed by Microsoft? Or, cant Wii owners own a 360? News, Weather, VC, Internet, Shop, Vote, and more on the way not even decent for free? Thats fails horribly. Who knows about friend codes maybe it will be different. Great its your opinion for Gears, RS6, GRAW, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3. Wow Halo 3 and Mass will be the only exclusives. I got a PC and Wii I win! PC online gaming is free too...

yes you can own a 360 and when referring to Live I stated we as in those who own a 360. It doesn't matter.

You people still blabblering about the price. Be thankful, at least it hasnt got a heavy price tag like the ps3, and i think the casuals dont really care due to the continued high sales everywhere.

Although this may sound absurd and fanboyish... I bought the Wii for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Everything else is just icing on the cake.

11 hours into Twilight Princess and I am loving every second of it.

For the hardware its not worth the money. It probably costs very little to make a Wii so Nintendo is really making money. I think the sales will begin to slow and they'll drop it to $199, then you wont be able to find one in stores. I've still never seen a Wii you can by in a store, although I see a lot of PS3, even right after christmas.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2Ghz - $50
GPU: Nvidia 7600GT , 590MHz, 256mb , 12 pipelines -$89
RAM: Corsair 512mb -$35
Mobo: ASUS 939 micro ATX -$39
DVD: Lite-on DVD -$15
PSU : Atrix 400 WATT -$15
Wi-Fi- ****** USB G adapter $10

That shoudl be under $250

Xbox360gamer1

Am gonna fix this so people dont think us hermits are all lemmings with are brains in are rears.

Here we go, using Newegg.com the hermit site of Us hardware love I will correct these prices. Feel free to look them all up your selfs after I correct them.

-3400+ Amd 64 bit Processor= 50$? The correct price!! 55.99$
-Nvidia 7600GT , 590MHz, 256mb , 12 pipelines -$89 The Corrrect Price!!! On sale worst version! 142.99$ Evga
-Corsair 512mb -$35 The Correct price!!! Non Dual Channel Value RAM!! 42.99$
-ASUS 939 micro ATX -$39  Am not correcting this, this board is poo, no gamer would ever buy this crap. IT DOESNT EVEN HAVE COOL AND QUIET WERE BUILDING A WII NOT A 360, I mean Jet engine! Try 60$ plus and your still very low end and you would be counting on a crap south bridge. 100$ Never have I spent less, and the stuff Nintendo uses is quality, they have always been knowen for it. For the sake of a random sweet deal, I will say 50$
-Lite-on DVD -$15 This doesnt glow blue, this is a tray drive, this is not a fair comparison. I will use your 15$, but only because computers (Excluding macs) have crappy loud tray drives.
-Atrix 400 WATT -$15 EXCELLENT!!! BUT WHAT ARE WE PUTTING THIS ALL IN? Ohh you forgot the case? Wow you sure are a hardcore Pc gamer.Cases + a PSU are anywhere from 50$-200$, one this size and sexy ness of the Wii's doesnt exsist so we shall use my case, as its very quite, nice looking and has a PSU inside. 110$ Overture 2 normally 170$, they have come down majory in price.
-****** USB G adapter $10. Sure why not, I dont even think you have a purpose for this.

So for everyone that has kept up till now or has skipped a head, we are at a total of 483.98$

Ohh keep in mind this also does not incldue a game, a keyboard and mouse, cords, and is not something 80% of the world can put togather. You Also need to buy a monitor, and last time I looked there were some Nice 30' inch Dlps going for about 500$ and you dont need to go that high. The last time I looked if you wanted to get the "Most" out of your computer you need a monitor that can use the full extent of your Gpu, the 7600 can display at 1980-1440 far as I recall. Monitors that display at those resolution are 800$ - 5000$ and dont expect anythign but the 5000$ ones to be a 30' monitor.

You have been Ownede dear lemming, do us a favor and preform ritual lemmin sebuku. Go break everything you own that has Halo or Geow written on it!!! DO IT NOW!!!

So grand total?

Who buys a system for hardware? Maybe a mad sciencetist who needs raw material, but everyone buys a system for the games.

I can't believe the stupidity of the people here.

It's simple. Nintendo did not justify the $250. The system is weak in terms of power and does not cost much to manufacture a wii.

However, the demand for wii is huge so Nintendo is trying to maximize profit as much as possible. That's how they decided to go with $250. And it became the right business decision.

I wrote an article for www.wiinintendo.net about initial reactions to the press conference in september, and how people feel now. Here's an excerpt below:

Back in September of last year (2006), Nintendo held a much awaited press conference that would unveil the last coveted details of their highly anticipated next(new)-gen console, the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, took the stage in New York and fulfilled every fanboy’s dreams by finally setting a price and release date. November 19th, 2006 at a price point of $249.xx, the Wii would see its worldwide debut, in North America. Included in the box: 1 Wii Console, 1 Wii Remote Controller, 1 Nunchuk Controller, all cables and usuals (manuals, etc.), and Wii Sports packed-in. As expected, the internet gaming community (watching live feeds via several sources) exploded with praise and criticism in nearly equal amounts. What were the main gripes? Do we even remember at this point? As far as I can remember, the complaints that most came up with were:

• The price
• The inclusion of Wii Sports
• The release date
• The exclusion of a second Remote/Nunchuk combo
• A few other small details

I, admittedly, feverishly argued each of these points in Nintendo’s favor that day, regardless of the fact that, obviously, I would’ve loved it to be released sooner, as well as cheaper. Despite which side you were on then, we all have an infinitely better grasp on what the Wii is now, and how far our $249.xx went. What do each of those objections look like in the post-launch light, and did Nintendo silence those asking, “Is it worth it?”

Read the rest here

wusscore
For me, no I don't think it's wortht he $250. However, it seems I'm in the minority seeing as how well it's selling right now. So yes, Nintendo has justified the Wii's price.

It depends on what you mean by "justify". Comparatively, it doesn't seem as though there's any reason why Wii should have launched at a higher price both absolutely and relatively than GameCube. Whether it's worthwhile as a purchase, economics aside is a personal opinion on how much you enjoy it.

The only thing? what? what's innovative about the 360 or the PS3? a graphical upgrade from the previous generation, that's never been done before.

Wii sports is well worth $50. Its not just 5 sports games with one variation. Beyond the 5 games is 15 different training games as well as a nice 'overall workout analysis' which you can do once a day. It has really good Mii implementation. I play it more than most other $50 games I have that retailed for $50 or more. I love the %100 compatibility with GC, accessories included. I like connecting to the internet, the vc console, all the channels, etc. Comes with a wii mote and a nunchuck. Its well worth $250. Not more than that though. No system should cost more than that IMO. Its funny though. People would bend over backwards for 360 and PS3 when their prices came out. All you heard were amateur inflation experts come out of the woodwork preaching 'You know...if you compare the price of 360/ps3 from the prices of 5 years, 10 years, even 20 years ago, its the same cost if NOT CHEAPER BECAUSE OF INFLATION!!! $400 is what $200 was years ago!' And then they go on to blah blah blah about the original price of PS1, PS2, XBOX, etc. So now Wii costs too much? Lets remember those inflation arguments and then discuss Wii.

Hold on while I build a PC that PWNS the Wii for less then that

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ 2.2Ghz - $50
GPU: Nvidia 7600GT , 590MHz, 256mb , 12 pipelines -$89
RAM: Corsair 512mb -$35

DVD: Lite-on DVD -$15
PSU : Atrix 400 WATT -$15
Wi-Fi- ****** USB G adapter $10

That shoudl be under $250

BTW, Remember Nintendo gets even cheaper prices then this becuase it is a custom job and they buy in bulk

Custom = more And using those figures means nothing. Hertz is not an effective direct measurement of speed, throughput, or programming efficiency.

Actually more like $90 if you want to save your games' progress...
