What's the big deal? You could always rent PC games, I used to do it all the time in the past. Maybe it's different in the US, but you could always rent PC games here as far as I can remember.

What does this really have with their digital PC store and services? Nothing.Yeah scratch all that, I mistakenly thought it was physical copy rentals. Oh, ok. Honest mistake.[QUOTE="GeneralShowzer"][QUOTE="Bigboi500"]Then obviously you have never used Gamefly. They offer users the option of keeping the rentals they play. That becomes a used game sale.
Hermits in general seem to be against used game sales mainly because they haven't had easy as access to them as console gamers do. If they do, I suspect some greasing of the wheels.
Bigboi500
Wait, I got a question, wouldn't that hurt the PC gaming industry? I mean no money are made by the devs through rental, right?

Depends on how it's handled which we don't know. Could be a pay the company per use, pay per license key, ect.
...and magically hermits no longer have a problem with used games.
Bigboi500
where did that come from? :?

At first I thought Gamefly was offering physical copies of used games for rental. Under that premise I was talking about how many hermits on this forum I've heard claim that used games are the devil. I think they say that because they don't have access to physical copies of used games like console gamers do, via Gamefly and Gamestop et cetera. Digital downloads is a whole other beast that isn't comparable though.[QUOTE="CaseyWegner"]

Thats intereseting, now to see how much it will cost is the big question. If its 10 dollars a month a may look into it. if they have all the new games to, this could be a killer. It could advance move of no one actually owning media.

Just look at some of the numerous "used games are (or are not) equal to piracy" threads. The large majority of anti-used games proponents are hermits.[QUOTE="CaseyWegner"]

The large majority of anti-used games proponents are hermits.I think most hermits only say that in response to people talking about rampant piracy on PC, and they're usually talking about how developers view used game sales as bad as piracy since they dont get paid for it.

Greece. Many people used to rent games here, then download cracks, before torrents became so popular. You could rent PC games at most videoclubs, dunno if it's still possible though as I haven't rented a game or a movie in ages.
Why would the ability to rent PC games make it "infinitely" better?
It's just better. We'll leave it at that.
At first I liked the sound of this. It seemed like if you were a subscriber to GF (which I am) then this new feature would allow you to simply go to the list of all the PC titles they have, and download it onto your PC right then for free. After seeing THIS video, it seems as if the games cost money. At 38 seconds, as the person is clicking on Assassins Creed, you can see "Download $49.99" which sucks if we would have to pay for the games in addition to the GF subscription fees. Please tell me that I am wrong and that GF subscribers do get the downloads free and that $49.99 is for non-subscribers.

Here, and here.So what does used games have to do with rentals?
Read my other comments in the thread so I don't have to repeat myself.[QUOTE="ChubbyGuy40"]

Used gameshave been proven tolose developers moneywhile with piracy, you can't prove without a doubt they were going to buy the media anyway.
This is gonna make devs wanna run away from the PC even more.
PtothaWHAT
Making even more money is going to chase developers even further away from PC? :?
No one is forcing them to put their games on the service, so it won't affect them negatively either way.
[QUOTE="brandontwb"]Now only we need is bigger download caps in Canada.EliteM0nk3y
Going back to no caps would be better.
Fix'd :P

I have no interest in discussing the "evils" or merits of used games right now, but I will say this: basically my stance on the matter is that if a game is worth $60 new, I'll buy it new. Most games however, imho, are not worth even a fraction of that asking price. If I can find a used game in good condition at 1/3 or so the price of a new game I'll buy it if I like it. I'm much more concerned about my financial situation as opposed to some already wealthy or well-off developer's. Also, that used copy was already purchased by someone new somewhere, so the devs got paid for the copy I'm playing.I was thinking the same thing. Then again, expect something similar from them soon?Yeah that's quite awesome. I may take advantage of that.
I'm sure Valve isn't to happy :P

I have tended not to rent a lot of games. Maybe that's because I tend to game a lot on my PC...lol. But this sounds good. I think it will also help to bring more people into PC gaming.
This is awesome. But i feel like there is something they're not telling us. Price increase? No multiplayer? Something...Merex760
Price increase is my guess
Hmm, I wonder how much piracy this will lead to. Yes I know it is available elsewhere, but doesn't this seem like another route for people?

Take out Steamworks
Profit!
[QUOTE="Animal-Mother"][QUOTE="tagyhag"]Well dang that's amazing, but I'll wait to see the game selection and how it will affect multiplayer games.tagyhagWell I know there's a crap ton of releases on PC already. But it's launching with 1,500 games. Not a bad selection to start. Yeah especially since Gametap has only 600 titles. But I dunno, there HAS to be a catch somewhere.... One that I can think of is those fantastic bandwidth caps NA has ;)
