They keep saying Japan is irrelevant so im guessing they didn't play contra / mario / castlevania / megaman's ya know japanese games from japan or own japanese systems like nintendo or sega.

They just skipped those gens and only buy american games cause screw Nioh and Bloodborne and Yakuza Zero nobody cares is what they are saying

Guess what people do care people want japanese games they don't want niche trash like halo wars 2.

Xbox owners either lie on here about japanese games and systems or just started gaming recently and don't know whats japanese and whats not.

Japanese games are VERY important probably the most important games ever made as well as their systems. Xbox owners need to look in the mirror and see these games outselling and making many western games like voodoo vince look niche.

Who are "they"? I've been an avid gamer for 40 years or so and have played hundreds of excellent Japanese games, loved them then and I love them now. Am also an Xbox gamer who loves their systems and games as well.

There is some xbox gamers on here who said japanese games are all niche and that japan isn't what it used to be and that there games aren't great anymore AND some of them weren't on xbox so they were downplaying the ones that didn't get made for the xbox.

Games were good fun back in the day, just dont care much for singleplayer type games and don't connect with the current Japanese Developed games besides the ones focused towards Western Audience (Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Dead Rising and Lost Planet).

NES/Super Nintendo i probably played majority of the Japanese Developed games but ever since PS2 i shifted towards online gaming after Socom and Twisted Metal co-op.

Now if games like Lost Planet get revived or if Dark Souls game could somehow morph into a Borderlands type co-op game that would interest me. Just dont connect with these current games.

Most Japanese devs are now focusing on weeaboo games for virgins.

The Xbox crowd is probably the most ignorant when it comes to knowing about games. They only care about Halo, Gears and Forza.

@ProtossRushX: if you cannot see the huge difference in Japanese games like Mario, Castlevania, Megaman, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil etc... as opposed the weeaboo stuff like Persona, Disgaea, Neptunia, etc....I don't know what to tell you. there is a clear difference in Japanese games and weeaboo games. I don't care for weeaboo games.

Nice try though

I did with the NES. But, that was it. As I did more Amiga and PC gaming, I moved away from Japanese games because I found games on the computer platforms more interesting. Nowadays, many of those genres are on consoles too. I haven't looked back nor missed the Japanese games.

Besides, I like a lot of historical strategy war games and combat flight sims, genres few Japanese developers are likely to delve in.

You have to remember, a large number of the gamers who post on system wars weren't even born when the original NES was out, and were too young to even remember the SNES/Genesis era.

Just look at how many people vote PS3 or Xbox 360 as "best console of all time". No self respecting gamer would EVER vote for either of those two consoles if they had actually been alive to experience the SNES/Genesis ERA. Honestly the newest console that even deserves to be considered in a best of all time contest, would be the PS2.

amen man thats why i made this thread to kinda stick it to them a bit and remind them about classics like megaman and stuff. I'm sure there is more japanese lovers on here who are sick of people downplaying japan in system wars this was for them everytime you heard a nioh or a yakuza doesn't matter THIS IS FOR THEM.

I'm sure many Xbox fans played those games as those were the most popular consoles and games at the time. Microsoft has a harder time working with Japan because they generally like to work with their own people. Hence why you see more Japanese games on Nintendo and Sony consoles. Japanese games can be great and important to the industry, but I think you're downplaying the west's role in the industry a bit. Xbox's audience is more NA and EU. The US is a huge market and creates many great games as well. Xbox doesn't NEED games from Japan, but it only helps their library if they can get them. I would like for people to be more open minded about Japanese games, but everyone has their preferences. I personally play both.

I was more into the industrial Age through WW1/WW2 and up to the Vietnam War stuff.

Most historical games with those themes were Western, of course. If games were fewer overall, I would probably give more Japanese games a go.

I take issue with your generalization. I voted PS3 as the best modern console because now that I'm older, I can afford to own more games for that system than I did PS2 or SNES. I like JRPGs the most, and PS3 has a great selection of them along with AAA games from gen 7, those together outweigh the older systems with their shorter games. You'd have to be caught up in a web of nostalgia to believe they were better.

Oh right, the PS3 with that amazing list of quality JRPGS.

Let's see uhh....

Star Ocean... Ni No Kuni, and uh.... umm....

Oh right, that's about it.

I bought my PS3 fully expecting to see a slew of good JRPGS, just like the PSX and PS2 had, and was sorely disappointed. I clocked more hours on it playing blu ray than I did playing games.

But keep in mind, I said a "large number of" not "all".

@metalslimenite:

I'll give you disgaea, however that game could have easily been done on playstation 1.

Trails of cold steel is not what I would consider a "quality" jrpg. I played it for a while on PS now, and it was alright, but hardly a game that will be fondly remembered in years to come.

Not to mention a huge number of the games you just mentioned launched what, like 6 years after the ps3 released?

You really can't compare that list to all of the titles that arrived on SNES, some of which are considered the best RPGS ever.

Chrono Trigger and Secret of mana alone trump pretty much every RPG ever made for the PS3.

I'm curious, you said you couldn't afford many games for the SNES when you were young. Did you play Chrono Trigger, Secret of mana, Final fantasy 4,6, any of the Dragon quest games, etc?

yeah apparently this guy never heard of the amiga 500 and commodore 64, these were called home computers and were basically some sort of pc's but it was a lot more plug and play than the early windows systems.

Not to mention that a lot of succesfull games, like mortal kombat for instance is a western game. Another world was made by a french dude, I never played mario, I played giana sisters.

Of course japanese developpers made wonderfull games, double dragon, kung fu master, streetfighter II, but that's hardly a comparison with persona 5 or uncharted , it's like @xxyetixx said, japanese developpers can make great games, but nintendo and sega ain't sony, nor is capcom, heck dragon's dogma is one of my all time favourites.

and like @appariti0n says as well, sega and nintendo era are 20-30 years ago lol, someone that's 20 years old today was born in 1997, the sega and nintendo era was already gone then. Even for a 30 year old it's hard to remember the battle between these two giants.

Different era friend.. Most of those series you mentioned have long since ran off into the sunset. Yes.. this gen there are a number of great japanese games.. but there are a number of great western games as well. And as one poster mentioned, some these younger gamers started with the 360.

Because the force behind the 70b dollar game industry isn't Jpn anymore.

Are they a player? Of course but there are no longer massive triple AAA devs on every street corner in jpn like it was in the 80s and 90s.

There was a major slump mid 2000s from Japanese devs that's where this belief comes from.
