Did Xbox win 2021?

The Gunk, in a couple weeks as well. ;)

PC got all of that + Playstation games + Age of Empires.

While I’m sure the PS5 has a lot of great stuff to come, I think MS has outdone themselves this year.

The above mentioned games plus Twelve Minutes and The Ascent we’re great games too.

The FPS boost feature really transformed some older games such as Prey and Dishonoured among numerous others.

Not to forget the official upgrades from Xbox One games to Series games boosting performance and resolution.

2022 will be a great year as well for Xbox.

MS had a great last quarter of the year with great games and great features added.

But to say there was a winner of 2021 is pretty low hanging fruit. I don't think anyone won really.

I do hope the Xbox Series X dashboard gets revamped sometime soon? Xbox did have a strong 2021 holiday though.

I'd go with what @R4gnar0k said. The biggest win this year was PC getting Playstation games. Now PC has more bases covered software wise than any other platform, and the whole performance boost for old backwards compatible games that the new consoles have been pushing this year have been standard practice on PC for 2 decades. Other than that, Microsoft released the most software this year so I'd say they won in that aspect, even if this year has been pretty dismal across the board when it comes to new IP's and fresh content.

I think Xbox has a great holiday quarter. Before that its pretty barren. Overall personally Nintendo has bit under radar great year as they have games in all quarters and quite good 3rd party offerings like from Square (Bravely Default 2), Atlus (SMTV) and Capcom (MHR).

@SolidGame_basic: With all the failure on Xbox One last-gen, they better get their shit together and this time around, it seems they really came in strong this year and no doubt MS had a a great 2021 year. I wouldn't say they won 2021 but they are totally in between Nintendo so kudos for both really. Sony also did well.

Absolutely they did not.

Deathloop (game of the year), Ratchet & Clank and Returnal are PS5 exclusive.. Flight Simulator is a 2020 game, might as well add Demon's Souls and The Last of Us 2 for the PS5 and it would win every year of the gen.

Deathloop, R&C, Returnal three of the top 5 best games of the year vs Forza and Halo.

Yea, they're doing well so far. I do think Sony and Nintendo are going to have an amazing 2022. Not sure what MS has for that other than Starfield, but it's pretty far at this point and all of these release dates are tentative these days.

Eh, I don't think so. Sony and MS were about on even footing, if you ask me. I'll say, personally, I've spent far more time on my PS5 than I have on my Series X the last 6 months or so.

They did very well. Could have been more "favorable" to them if they had kept Deathloop and Psychonauts to the Microsoft ecosystem.

Missing from that list is Deathloop, Final Fantasy 7 Integrade, and Ghost of Tsushima Director's cut. All of which scored at or above Ratchet. And if we're gonna count a multiplat like Psyconaughts then we should add Hades to that list for PS5.

A solid year for MS and Sony regardless. Next year's gonna be a big one.

Depends by what measure. Sales? Absolutely not, no point in going to detail there.

However, with games and general public image, I'd say Xbox had a better year than Playstation. I spent way more time w/ my PS5 than my Series X, this year, but I can recognize that Xbox had a very strong year.

Sony Studios and Xbox Studios not exclusive games so FF 7 would not be on the list. Also Hades is not a Sony Studios. MLB is a Sony studio but multiplat.

All three had a very good year. If you’re just a simple gamer like myself then you won because there’s just so much out there to enjoy. 😎

However for the sake of this poll I guess I’ll go with Xbox. Not only with some recent big hitters like Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 5, and now Halo: Infinite but also because of the awesome value that is Game Pass that just continues to prove it’s value in 2021.

So is Ghosts of Tsushima but I did not exclude it when someone mentioned the "Directors Cut" because the DC did release in 2021 just like the XSX/S version of FS released in 2021

I would say, but it was more that there were no competition and that xbox released all their heavy hitters; Age of empires IV, Flight Simulator, Forza and Halo; the only one left was Gears of War, otherwise it would be the 5 most renowned Microsoft IPs.

well as soon as MS announced halo and forza releasing in 2021, they already won the year even with all the games that released for ps5 this year. There are very few games that are as big as these titles. Even on nintendos end. Zelda, Mario, Pokemon and Smash are the only 4 that come to mind. And on playstation, it would only be a god of war title, or uncharted that could compete with that kind of level.

But ive said this before, MS has already blew their load this year. Their biggest block buster titles are already out, with only gears of war remaining, and in my opinion gears isn't on the level of halo or forza in the first place...its still great, but the prestige is one level lower.

In my opinion, 2022 is where things really start for MS...they need to seriously step up and show what they're capable of. They did show that by acquiring bethesda, and gamepass is unquestionably one of the greatest things to happen to gaming. They're really off to a great start this gen.

Those are just some (not all) of Xbox's already announced games. Not counting unnanounced ones we know are coming. Like Obsidian's Josh Sawyer project that might be shown at TGAs. Or Inexile's multiple AAA projects. Or Compulsion's project which might be shown at the TGAs. I am also certain either InXile or Obsidian will produce a Fallout game at some point this gen (there is no way they're going to sit on that IP when they have like 3 different developers who could make it).

2nd party partnerships (and potential acquisition targets) like Asobo, Avalanche with Contraband, Relic's collaboration with Worlds Edge/AOE, IOI's confirmed projects with XGS Publishing, Crystal Dynamics with Perfect Dark, etc.......And the fact that both Phil and Satya have made it absolutely clear they intend to do more acquisitions........

Xbox is nowhere close to having "blown their load". Xbox's future has literally never looked brighter at any point in its history.
