I will say tho, Xbox still lacking in the Japanese games department. Not even Guilty Gear Strive!

Truth is, 2021 has been one of the, if not the shittiest year in gaming for the last 10 years plus. Nobody won.

Not the same thing, and you know it. There's a big difference between a PlayStation console game later releasing again on the next PlayStation console, and a PC game later releasing on a console.

You're trying to count consoles games twice to pad out a middling year for Sony.

Reality is, the Xbox hasn't won in over a decade. In the first few years of the 360 days that the Xbox was clapping its competition. Those days are over and long gone.

Everyone lost the last 3 years or so.

@sealionact: I guess the PS5 game Psychonauts 2 did score higher on average. We'll see which games will win the most GOTY awards though.

Pretty sure it'll be mostly between the PS5 exclusive Deathloop, PS5 exclusive Returnal and PS5 exclusive R&C:RA. though Psychonauts 2, also a PS5 game and possibly RE8 (PS5 game) might grab some of them too.

@svaubel: Xbox 2012, 2013, 2014,2015,2016,2017,2018,2019, 2020 and 2021 were all drier. It is however Sony's worst year probably ever. That just speaks volume of the sheer quality they have put out over 25 years.

Almost as many bad years for Nintendo as MS, but they of course have heavy hitters every now and then like 2017 were the top 2 games were Ninty excluisve.

Its pretty mind boggling than Sony's worst year in a decade or more is actually slightly better than Microsoft's best year in a decade (2011)

in a year where the GOTY might go to a Ratchet & Clank game (lol) , Deathloop or fricken Resident Evil 8 is just pathetic. Deathloop wouldn't even be nominated in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020.

or the fact that 60% of SW thinks the platform which got nothing else other than Halo Infinite and a racing game somehow 'won' the year.

@Mozelleple112: Deathloop is a timed exclusive…and it’s an ms studio game. Yes, Psychonauts 2 is on ps5, but again it’s an ms studio game and is played on ps5 through BC…..it’s a PS4 game with improved resolution on ps5.

Point is, if you’re counting those games as reasons for Sony having a better 2021 they’re pretty feeble cases considering they’re Microsoft games.

I am not trying to count any Sony games.. I said when someone else mentioned it as releasing this year as a DC I did not exclude it (i.e. I never said "that is a re-release" even though it was)

The criteria for “winning the year” is clear as mud, and varies from person to person….because it’s down to opinion, but the question certainly wasn’t “Which console sold most.”

I’ve never cared how many consoles sell, nor how many copies a game sells…I look at what the console has offered in 2021 compared to others. Going by that, Xbox won 2021 hands down for me.

I'd say that Xbox won, but Sony hasn't put up too much competition this year. I believe things will get even easier for Xbox once Bethseda starts releasing console exclusive games.

The fact is, you look at the 5 best games of the year and all of them are on PS5, while only 1 of them are on xbox.

2 of them are 100% exclusive to PS5, and zero of them are exclusive to Xbox.

Add to that It takes two, and you have a list of 5 games. Two of which aren’t on ps5, and two that ms own. Ratchet and Clank is the sole true ps5 exclusive that deserves a mention, and that’s the 25th game in the series that plays identically to the 1st.

Deathloop is exclusive to PS5 on console. So that's a win for Sony in 2021, and a loss for MS.

Every console had a drought this year, sony had a great beginning and an ok end with Deathloop. Xbox didn't have shit all year and extending into last year! Yes, PC won this poll since it has all of those xbox games (MS exclusives) as well as a few PS exclusives (Sony Play Exclusives) as well as it's own exclusives and the best version of 99% of games (most multipalts).

I still have issues with Metacritic. My reason is that it makes everything "score out of 100". That's not really true for websites/magazines that use a star based review process. 4/5 stars can be interpreted a lot differently than the straight mathematical conversion to 80/100, even more so when a site scores a game 3/5 - that does not really equate to "60/100".
