im asking because i know a few people that are playing either ps5 or series x on 1080p tv. it doesn't do the consoles justice.

I bought a Sony X900H last summer. I've still got my Samsung KS8000 as well which is still a badass TV.
I can't imagine consuming content or playing games on a 1080p TV in 2021. People really don't know what they're missing out on. You will not see the benefits of modern gaming consoles on a 1080p TV.
@SolidGame_basic: yes its awesome i have a c9 and just upgraded to a c1 65 resident evil village looks amazing on it.
Nope not yet but then again I haven’t purchased an Xbox Series X or PS5 so I don’t really have any devices that output at a resolution that requires a 4K TV.
@Pedro: Oh yeah, I’m in no rush really. In fact the longer I wait the more better TV’s get and the more chances for better sales. Patience is a virtue. 😁
@Pedro: there is absolutely nothing hype about 4k hdr on a oled display it is amazing it's the real deal.

If you're waiting for better TVs at lower prices, you'll be waiting forever. TV prices aren't going to come down any time soon, for the same reason you can't buy a PS5 right now. And TV technology is fairly stable right now; HDMI 2.1 was the last major piece we needed to formally move into this "era" of TVs. For the next few years, it's just going to be minor improvements and ATSC 3.0 support.
Have a 4k television in the main room, but generally opt for the 1080p in the smaller.
Not like the jump from VHS to DVD where it feels like a must.
@UnnDunn: Well not exactly waiting for a sale in particular, just saying that there might better deals whenever I do get around to upgrading my tv.
@uninspiredcup: once you played on a oled tv ps5 or series x you can't go back 4k hdr looks stunning on oled display.
Yes I got a new 4k TV for ps5/xseries x and I have a long HDMI cord that can plug in for my steam games too with my gtx 1070 plays a lot of games in 4k and its a 50 inch samsung QLED i didnt wanna spend double for an OLED and its pretty sick smart tv def recommend it for next gen.
I haven't found a ps5 or x-series x waiting for them to get in stock on amazon before I buy them but my PC is taking full advantage of the tv
bought my LG 4k oled in 2016 around the time 4k blu-rays came out. it has HDR and dolby vision. gaming was still too far away from 4k 60 to matter. i got it for movies.
still have it. would have been cool if it was a 4k 120hz tv but oh well. i love it even with all the shitty burn-in i have on it. it has 3d also. i got a 20movie 3d collection. small but good movies.
i will not buy another tv until this one dies. screw 8k.
I upgraded to an LG OLED in lead up to getting an XB1X. Now I wanna get one of those VRR TVs for my Series X, maybe after my tax return clears.
@thewitcher2015: I have an Oled. High end Qleds are catching up. Not worth the burn in risk when picture quality is so close.
@KBFloYd: maybe by Black Friday you can pick up a lg oled c1 its the best gaming tv it has freesync gsync vvr allm lowest input lag 4 hdmi 2.1 ports earc game optimizer setting.
I bought me an LG CX, and coming from a 4k tv with no HDR....hot damn was it worth the money. Dolby Vision looks stunning btw.
It supports 120 hz, tho I've yet to try to. Next purchase will be an overdue PC upgrade, or maybe a Series X if I can find one.
@Sagemode87: burn in is not a problem anymore on the newer models since the c8 and up they got way better.
@lamprey263: definitely get the lg oled c1 best gaming tv. 4 hmdi 2.1 ports vvr allm lowest input lag.

does vvr mean it does 120hz? that and the burn in would be my only reason to upgrade.
PQ wise i am happy. plus i got 3d movies. i like 3d a lot. my tv is hdmi 2.0 so i can get 4k 60 which is still the standard.
just doesnt seem worth it right now.
@thewitcher2015: I haven't been window shopping these much yet, is it a step up from the CX? That's the one I heard people talk about when getting one for these 9th gen systems.
Some people are mentioning an OLED TV but I wouldn't get one for gaming due to the burn-in issues.
Tell me about. It has me overly paranoid after I replaced my first one because of burn in. The new one already is showing minor signs of burn in.
I have a TCL 4 series (2019) 43 inch 4K TV I paid $230 for. It does not get bright enough for HDR to really work (even though it supports HDR) and it does not have a wide color gamut to display the HDR colors properly. I may upgrade at some point but for now it is just hooked up to older gaming system.
Immediately. My first next-gen purchase was a LG CX TV. Wanted a 48 inch to be used as a gaming monitor as well, since I played everything on a HDMI 2.0 1440p 144 Hz monitor before, but I could only get a 55 inch for a good price. That way my 3090 and PS5 are able to do their best. Been enjoying it.
