lol what prevents someone in using a Xbox One,360,PS3,or PS4 controller........ its the same control experience

The triggers on the pc verson of the game do not have haptic feedback like they do on the consoles, thats it basically so according to the author that means its the best version even compared to people playing the game at much better performance and on multiple monitors using wheels, if he was comparing controller vs controller he would have a point, but he didnt.

I'd like to note too that this could also very well be an "as of yet" kind of situation for the feedback on these controllers for PC.

I hook my xbox elite controller to my computer all the time. So this makes it more entertaining.

Well controller gameplay is better on console, the way a rally sim such as this is meant to be played is better on PC, neglected by the article obv.

It's a good click bait title.

I face-palmed when he went into the game using automatic transmission, then again when he stated the obvious that manual transmission gives far greater control over the car.

Also so this means that the Xbox One version is the best right? I mean the DS4 doesn't have impulse triggers so you can't really feel when the tires are slipping.

Why do they go with such a click bait article title... only to then forget to write in the article itself why exactly it's better on consoles ?

Eh it's his opinion.

I mean it's obviously not a well experienced opinion since a decent wheel will always give a better experience than a controller... But sometimes there's no space or money for a wheel in which case fair enough preferring it on console

Where does GameSpot find these people?

This topic is awful even when measured against the incredibly low bar you've already set.

I see.

I read the review and he seemed to be talking about both DS4 and XO controller, so I thought it was missing altogether. So does the DS4 have trigger feedback, or is there a difference in implementation? I guess I'm still having trouble understanding what's up here.

"It’s not an empty boast either. Both console controllers can accurately tell you where your driving is going wrong with this improved haptic feedback, even more so than the PC version in some cases. You can tell which part of your car is losing its grip by the way the motors are vibrating in your pad, and in the case of the Xbox One, the triggers can give you feedback on wheelspin and brake lock-ups, the latter being something that Codemasters was unable to implement with the PC build."

Don't know, I don't have a PS4 and haven't used one enough. The PR stuff around launch mentioned better rumble because of multiple rumble motors. So no idea if it's as good as the XBONE which I have already tried quite a bit with Forza and it actually vibrates different if things aren't smooth with braking/acceleration.

Game is very fun, I played with a DS4 on PC and even with its last-gen rumble its one of the most intense racing experiences I've ever had. Probably the least relaxing game you'll ever play, stay away if you are prone to heart problems

Controllers are better on the console versions. I don't see anything wrong with that.

However, I also think no controller can match a set of driving wheel and pedals for driving games.

With curent consoles, yes.

But this thing is great as well

Yeh...because in real life we drive with controllers lol

This is what happens when "Writers" try to talk about video games. The PC version was missing controller drivers and had some performance issues while the game was IN EARLY ACCESS!!!! When the actual game launched in December it was all there. What's next? "The Division is much better on consoles based on what we played of the Beta on PC." Gotta get those clicks I guess.

So does the PC version not support rumble?

Even if you use an XBONE controller you will just get the old standard rumble like with a 360 or any other third party controller.

That is incorrect. The drivers for the Xbox One controller were available in June of last year. 6 months before the game came out of Early Access.

I did not read the article (there is no point for me this is a game I am getting day 1) but I noticed someone mention haptic feedback and I certainly hope they use the haptic on the triggers, because it really made Forza games more fun for me.

This will be the first high profile full fledged Rally game this gen(for console anyways) and I'm hearing people say that Sebastian game coming out a month earlier Is looking good too.

I dont see how it could be better on consoles because the ultimate experience is with wheel, pedal, etc which you could get on PC also....but anyways I guess it is the authors preference that is all.

It's based on the PC in Early Access vs a final console build. The "negatives" the "Writer" mentions were fixed well before the game launched in December.

I usually play Forza in my racing cockpit, but I have also played with the controller. To be perfectly honest, the haptic feedback is more hype than anything. I didn't really notice any major difference from playing Forza last gen with the controllers to this current gen. It is still just a controller and it rumbles. I didn't find it gave me a noteworthy experience where I was able to get a better feel for my car and its limits. Sure, the triggers may rumble now to varying degrees, but it didn't translate for me in a meaningful way. So, to claim that the console version of Dirt Rally is better because of haptic feedback is indeed ridiculous.

The game comes out in April so I hope it's close to final. The PC version Rumble Drivers were released 6 months before the game came out of Early Access. So comparing a very close to final if not final build of a game to an early access game that was out a year ago, and writing an article about it is asinine.

Wait a minute, so this haptic feedback actually exists on the PC version via an Xbox One controller, just at the time it did not because there were not controller drivers?

Is that what you're saying?

The game is good and it's even better on consoles. What's wrong with that?

But it's not, did you even read the article?

Controller haptic feedback, that is the argument for this game being "even better" on consoles.. CONTROLLER haptic feedback... It's a rally simulation, one which people use thousands of dollars in sim equipment to race with on PC at dramatically higher resolutions, settings and frame rates...

Even some of the lowest end wheel and pedal sets provide a better experience and level of control and feedback than could ever be even remotely gotten with a controller...

This article is insanity...

Pretty much.

If I am playing racing games then I use my G27 wheel, stick and pedals.

Got the set off ebay for $120 last year and it works much better than a controller.

Too bad the G27 doesn't work with new consoles and instead you have to throw out your G27 and buy the overpriced G29 that is pretty much the same but costs 399USD with only the wheel and 459USD with the stick.

Are you sure that haptic feedback is indeed supported with the drivers? I have not seen any indication anywhere that it is supported.

Exactly. Usually when the game is reviewed, the author of that review's name is included. However, the Dirt Rally's reviewer doesn't have his/her name included.
