So much for Blu ray not being necessary. According to Microsoft the 360 is barely half way through it lifecycle and already more and more multi disc games are popping up. Swapping discs around might not be a big deal for most people, but it does show how wrong many people were when they said that DVD capacity would be enough for this generation. Another 12 months and we may well statr to see most 360 games coming with more than one disc.

Are cows lazy or something? What's wrong with disc swapping? It takes only a fraction of a second and you normally don't have to do it often. What's this big deal with disc swapping these days... I have no idea where the stigma comes from considering we had to swap upwards of 4 discs on the PS1... etc..

It really is a big deal. I mean, you play for several hours, then you see a "Insert disc #2" screen, and then you have to get up, walk three or four steps, change the disc, and keep playing. What a terrifying concept!

I never said it was a big deal, all I said was that Microsoft got it wrong when they thought single DVD capacity would be sufficent. PS3 will not have this problem because Sony planned well ahead and amde sure to use a next generation optical media.

The only PS3 game that I've ever played that did that was MGS4. I guess MGS4 is still the only game on the PS3.

so 1 disc for campaign 1 disc for MP I don't have a problem with it. even long games with 3 discs its not a massive problem. i think halo reach will have 2 discs, 1 for SP 1.

If there was one company whos got storage media right, then it is steam for getting rid of it completely, Blu-ray is slow as ****, and besides, it ain't really a big deal getting up in a 30 hour long game (i.e ME2) midways and change the disc. If anything MS was right staying with DVD9 as it is still a helluva lot cheaper to produce than blu-ray

It is much nicer not to have to disc swap unless it's a crappy port like Bayonetta. However if everything is roughly the same than it's nice having everything on one disc.

It's not like you're switching every five minutes though. Play for about 30-50 hours, switch, play until end of game or another 30-50 hours and switch again. It's not like it matters. DVD capacity is enough for this gen, Blu-Ray is just more convenient.

I agree with this. Having to swap discs isn't that big of a deal, but I find it funny that some people here are acting like it's a bad thing that PS3 has to ability to keep all of a game's data on one disc.

Isn't it customary for place in a race to be determined after it is finshed? It's looking more like the 360 will slip to 3rd in sales.

disk swapping is so 90's but the only reason i dont like disk swapping is if 1 disk is scratched really bad you cant finish the game MS should make multi disk games at least scratch proof.

I wasn't aware that multiple discs mean worse games.... oh wait, they don't. It's amazing how these people tout Blu-Ray as "necessary" when equally good games can be made in both disc formats.

PS3 is still trailing behind the 360 by 7 million units from what i recall, even if it continued to outsell it it would still take several years to catch up to the 360, and even if they would still be loosing money on every console sold, so in terms of success, i'd hand the 2nd place to MS

I don't mind disc swapping. I've been doing it forever and it really has not effect on me, but I do agree that MS or whatever company is making a multi-disc game should package 'em correctly or make 'em scratch resistant (like the Blu Ray discs). I look at the Lost Odyssey/Star Ocean/Blue Dragon packaging and it's awful, with the discs stacked on top of each other so carelessly. That's the only problem I see, however.

And even if that happens they will still have lost half their market share so MS still wins so really no reason to hold your breath about PS3 overtaking the 360

Obviously BR is Not necessary. :P

Necessary may refer to: Something that is a required condition for something else to be the case,

adjective: being essential, indispensable, or requisite: a necessary part of the motor. · noun: something necessary or requisite; necessity.

I guess most of the cows forget that some of the best PS1 games came in more than 1 disc, even 4 sometimes, so i don't really think is a big issue, then again most of the cows who try to use this as sort kind of "ownage" probably hadn't even born in the PS1 era.

madsnakehhh

This reminds of that MGS4 gag about swaping discs. MGS1 had two discs, but people thought the gag was making fun of the 360 for not having Blu-ray. Shows where some people started playing video games.

Also,great sig.

In a way, I think that gag kinda made fun of a number of things. For starters it made a joke about how games used to be with the PS1, and it also poked fun at how far technology has come along and how if it weren't for Blu-Ray, MGS4 wouldn't have been able to be the way it was.

So much for Blu ray not being necessaryteh_cell
Actually, disc swapping pretty much proves that BR is not necessary . Convenient? Hell yes. Necessary? Nope.

What is worse... getting up for 20 seconds to switch a disc, or to wait 10 minutes for a mandatory installation so as to avoid extremely long load times?

Blu-ray isn't necessary at all. Disc swapping is not an issue. It never will be an issue. It was only ever an issue on the Playstation and even then it wasn't that bad. I love how cows have spun disc swapping as bad and justification for using a disc with slower read speed and higher storage space... making load times longer, just so you can ship a game with uncompressed data.
