Dissappointed in PS3 2.40 Update

Greetings folks,

So like many I have been excited for the infamous 2.40 update that would bring ingame access to our PS3's. I just installed it and well... blah? Still no ingame music? Ridiculous. I suppose it did its job what it is the use of having in game access when you can't do anything with it?? I realize they will keep updating it but wow, let down if you ask me. Please don't call me a lemming as I have a PS3 and love it but this is way below expectations. Whatabout you guys? What do you feel?

While I agree with that statement, still... the hype for this update. It's like promising to buy your children a brand new BMW for years and finally giving it to them without an engine. Its great to look at and in theory but useless in the end.

Only thing they have copyrighted if I'm correct is the method of doing it.

2.40 enables in game music, it's up to the devs to take advantage of it.

I am, too. This update is damn near bare bones. It would've been great if devs had updates ready for their games to take advantage of trophy support. You would've thought Sony would've had this in the planning for a while with more devs on board. Oh well...BioShockOwnz

So because you cant play music in game in useless? The only reason 90% of people wanted this update was to be able to message their friends and use other smaller functions in the main menu, not listen to music.

I agree. Another PS3 thing that's overhyped and underachieves. I've been playing PAIN for about an hour now and I still yet to unlock a Trophy. I will tinker around and see what do you need to do to unlock one.

Perhaps useless was a poor choice of words. It's in game access but from what I believed, most wanted in game chat AND music. I realize Sony will continue upgrading it which is great but for the grand 2.40, I suppose I was expecting something further developed.

:lol: So in the Sony blog, they said that it would disappoint? You listened to people on GS more than you listened to the actual people who made the update. They did not fall short of any promise. People wanted in-game xmb with messaging, and they got it. They also got in-game music, which will have to be patched into many games, but it's still there.

I'm somewhat indifferent, I'm not disappointed because the feature list in the update isn't much to gawk at, but the lack of support is what troubles me, barely any support has been listed as of now. Sony just really needs to get a more unified service, bottom line.lantus

BINGO!!!! Lack of support and implementation is what bothers me. We will just have to wait and see what transpires in the next few months.

Sony delivered exactly on what they promised, I don't see how anyone can complain about it.

This 2.40 update is so disappointing I'm going to renew my my yearly XBL Gold subscription the first thing tomorrow, and it doesn't expire until like 6 months or so from now.

Some games will have it. Since it is a new feature a lot of games didnt write the feature in the code. let them updatep4ddym

Yet cows were claiming the second coming, that is rather lame... If only a few games support it, and I'm sure not every game will release patches, that kind of makes it pointless, since the feature will be minimally used currently.

Exactly, the main reason I'm excited for in game XMB right now is the fact I get to read and send messages to friends without having to leave the game....

I'm expecting future patches to allow my own in game music and trophies. These things take time, I'll totally be surprised if not all the major titles are patched by the end of this month.

I'm disapointed but I mostly play single player and watch bluerays on my PS3 so it doesnt really matter to me.xXHackettXx

The bottomline is we know that Sony's PSN is far from dominating let alone competing against a paid service like Xbox Live. However, for being a Free service, it's a damn fine service. It's a HUGE upgrade from the PS2's online, and that was decent enough, considering it's free.

Overall, I'm just glad Sony's not sitting on their @$$'s doing nothing. I'm glad Microsoft is doing well enough for Sony to make these changes. This just further proves competition is fantastic.

What I don't get is thread's like these are laughing @ Sony for delivering but not enough (Compared to Live), yet at the same time we got threads mocking Sony for trying to compete online (By Copying). Just understand that's it's free, and while it would be nice for it to be the sh-iz-nit It's not going to happen while Microsoft's around. Sony's playing catch up on year's of Microsoft's upgrades.

What you fail to realize is no one is laughing at Sony. They were straightforward in their 2.4 FAQ:

We're laughing at the cows who hyped it to make PSN equal to XBL. I haven't seen this much fail since Lair. How can you hype an update and not even know what's in it. You should see the PS3 forum: "What games support music?""What games support chat?" What's even funnier is people saying achievements were stupid, but now trophies are cool cuz Sony said so.

All Sony has to do is build upon this; criticism like this only proves that those who want to find error in something can, and will continue to.

I wasn't expecting much, but I can see Sony working on what they've done with this update and only expanding on it. If anything, what they need to do next is create a unified online gaming mechanic so that we don't get stuff like MGO.

How can you be disappointed? They told us everything that was in the update prior to installation.
