Dissappointed in PS3 2.40 Update

Patenting something does not patent the actual feature, but only HOW it is implemented. Just because 2 things appear to be the same to the end user does not mean that all the codes running under the surface are the same. Playing a song in Windows and Mac OSX appear to look similar, but all the coding is completely differnet so patents aren't too effective there.

The bottomline is we know that Sony's PSN is far from dominating let alone competing against a paid service like Xbox Live. However, for being a Free service, it's a damn fine service. It's a HUGE upgrade from the PS2's online, and that was decent enough, considering it's free.

Overall, I'm just glad Sony's not sitting on their @$$'s doing nothing. I'm glad Microsoft is doing well enough for Sony to make these changes. This just further proves competition is fantastic.

You should see the PS3 forum: "What games support music?""What games support chat?" What's even funnier is people saying achievements were stupid, but now trophies are cool cuz Sony said so.

Bingo. This is System Wars. And it was just funny seeing all these folks saying 2.40 is the second coming and XBL becomes obselete.

Well, the fact that ignorant cows hyping this is sad, but I suppose fanboy's will be fanboy's. I'm sure there ae some cows that read/watched Sony's Video and didn't hype or expect the sun (Sony E3 ref). Like all fanboy's, I guess it just takes a few bad apples to ruin the rep of the whole group.

It would be fantastic if Sony could get some sort of upgrade that Microsoft hasn't though of...as it would upgrade my Xbox Live Gold even moreso. Forcing Microsoft to compete even further is great for Xbox Livers, and great for PSN'ers.

I wish I saw these UBER HYPE threads that said this update was going to dominate over Live. That would make this more humorous.

This 2.40 update is so disappointing I'm going to renew my my yearly XBL Gold subscription the first thing tomorrow, and it doesn't expire until like 6 months or so from now.

They haven't said anything yet if GT5 Prologue will be patched for it yet, but I suspect they will soon, the same for MGS 4.

Wow must say, I'm really impress with how smooth and quickly the in game XMB performs. The date and time in the upper right hand corner is a nice little touch.

Overall two thumbs up, now lets hope these devs get those patches going.

The in-game xmb has a bit of a lag than the regular xmb. But the lag might be only noticable to someone critical for details and with trained eyes like mine. In all seriousness, there is a lag with the in game xmb compared to the regular xmb while you're not in a game. Apparrently in game xmb copied the lag that was found with the XBL blades.

I am, too. This update is damn near bare bones. It would've been great if devs had updates ready for their games to take advantage of trophy support. You would've thought Sony would've had this in the planning for a while with more devs on board. Oh well...BioShockOwnz

Exactly. The only trophy compatible game I have that was on that list Sony gave us, is PAIN. I haven't played it in months, and when I loaded it, it had updates and such and I thought it was the trophy patch, but it was just updates for the game. So the only real game that's trophy compatible on that Sony list is SuperStardust? *sigh*

Also, it's nice to check your messages while you're in game, but I like the message system for the 360 better, because when you get a message, you get a message noticed, then you can click the guide button and it'll take you straight to the message. While when you get a message on the PSN, you still have to go to your friend's name on your list and view sort messages.

PSN really still have a long way to go, a very long way.

JUst suck it up. you bought a PS3, suck up all the crap Sony throw at you and enjoy it:P

If things get really bad go watch a blue-ray movie, or maybe just watch MGS4
