When someone is in a store, choosing what system to buy, do they really care that there is a DLC available on the playstation network that lets you become the Joker in Batman? Do they care that there are new levels for portal available on the Xbox Live Marketplace? I have a feeling this would be the last thing on someone's mind when they are making a several hundred dollar purchasing decision, that is, if they even know that this content exists. When one purchases a system, they look at the products on the shelf that work with that system. It is important to have something that you can physically see and hold in your hand.
Moreover, does the average gamer even know that this content exists-- probably not. The problem is that downloadable content and downloadable games are not exactly mainstream, and really only resonates with people who already have the consoles the content is available for. What do you think sells more systems, downloadable content or games that come in a box?
There seems to be some confusion, so I am rephrasing: I want anyone reading this to find someone, anyone who made a purchasing decision on a console based on DLC or a downloadable game. The PSP Go doesn't count, because all of it's games are downloadable.
