I just picked up my copy of UC2 (waiting for my tv to free up so i can play). Anyway i went to gamestop to purchase UC because i had a gift card, and i couldnt help but notice ALL of the employees are lemmings. It just gets annoying because when i ask them for opinion on PS3 games they never have anything positive to say. Does anyone else have this problem?

Edit: I dont necessarily mean lemming just fanboy in general. They just happen to be lemmings here.

ya.... then again, gamestop's policies fit right in with microsoft's..... only hold onto 80 percent of preorders as 1 in 5 don't get picked up! if they're still buying don't fix it? sounds about the same to me.

Back when I used to play on the PS2; me and a friend were in a game shop and the guy at the till was a total lemming.

What got me was this is before the Xbox came out, the hype alone had this guy a fanboy...

The guys at my store are usually pretty cool. Low key, not really hardcore. But they hired this one new guy. I went in to purchase demons souls last thursday and I asked him if they had it. My normal guy goes no. So the other clerk tells me the only reason it's going to be good is because "it's on PS3" BS.

as far as i know, the guys at my eb games have ps3. but they really don't have anything against when i buy wii games. (idk if they have wii also or not tho) in fact, it's kinda illogical when one, as a seller, doesn't promote the products they are selling. it's kinda stupid, and i actually want to meet one of them who behaves like that lol

I never find that employees have their own opinion about anything, they just want to sell and say that/this is good.

The guys at Gamestop make min wage so they probably cant afford a PS3. Their loss. I know exactly what you are talking about though. When ever they start talking trash I ask them how many RROD they have had(It's usually a minimum of 3).

I find most people who tell "video game emplyees are fanboys" stories are mainly people who get offended when those empyees state their liking for one game (usually on a different platform) over another. Yes, I have found video game emplyees who have a different opinion than me and have stated so on my purchase. But it doesn't bother me any cause I can still get whatever the hell I want.

Why is it so hard for people to understand that people have their own opinions, and they are free to have a different one than you. Just because they dont share your views, doesnt make them wrong, or a lemming, it just makes them human:|

Yes, I once went into GameCrazy and the cashier was talking about MUA2 like it was REAL. He said something like "Oh I can't beleive he went on live TV and said that he was joining the government", and much much more. You have to know the story of the game to know what he was talking about.

lol the best thing I heard was when someone wanted to buy a PS3 for the Blu-ray player, and the employee said: "Don't bother buy that. The 360 is getting a Blu-ray player soon". This was about 2 or 3 years ago :P

But did they say that they prefer the Xbox 360 over the other one's? They could be a sheep or they actually might not care for a bunch of the games out for the ps3.

Yeah, totally , I seen a mother go in there the other day to get her son a system and she asked the guy what was the best value for gaming with free online play... He said the 360 elite.... i couldn't belive it. They are all like that there, I go to get a game and they give me the damn 360 version... Or if i ask for a niche ps3 title like demon souls or disgaea , vc something like that, they look puzzled and say "is that on the 360?" Then when you call them they spew out a long wii advertisment... They advertise Xbox and wii at the door with big ODST posters everywhere and have the $299 ps3 ads practically hidden , facing the back wall on the rack of pc games 5 foot from the ps3 section on the back wall. It really pisses me off how much these jerks are fanboys. Whats crazy I see more guys over 20 going striaght to the ps3 section anymore when I am there.

What are you doing asking them for their opinion if their replies always annoy you?

What I wish for is that Gamestop would update their stupid ass system. Whenever I do go there I go there to do business, which seems to be overly complicated and takes ages. Buying a game is simple enough, but when you've got store credit to spend on a game, receipts for games to pick up, pre-orders to swap and games to trade in... I dread having to go through all that nonsense. It'll probably take half an hour.

"Is it worth the aggrevation?" Liam Gallagher sings on itunes as I'm typing this. It's on random. But I say that yes, yes it is. You could wait for a lifetime to spend your days in the sunshine.

Dear God yes they are annoying. Fortunately a lot of the people I've seen are pretty straight forward and honest and don't care about the console war. I care about the console war but I prefer to be honest. If I'm not being honest, please show me how I'm wrong or tell me to shut up before I get ahead of myself.

I've actualy met some pretty smart employees who were level headed and knew their stuff. But my friend ran into one who managed to convince him to buy a PS3 instead of a 360. Whether or not he made the right choice remains to be seen, but they shouldn't be allowed to spew their fanboy opinions at the people in their store. It's scary when you see how much influence those people have over the consumers who don't really know what they are looking for.

Everyone has an opinion...would it have been more acceptable if he was bashing or had dumb things to say bout the 360? Somewhere in that conversation you just didn't like what they had to say about the PS3 titles...it was HIS opinion. If you wanted to make him shut up about it...ask him what does he LIKE. That's what I do for people who talk down on everything....what is it do you LIKE?

Shopping from them I don't really care, but having to work with them is far worse.

When I was at EB Games (Australia) my manager was unbearable around MGS4 release time. He was taking pre-orders for the 360 version even though we did not have a code for it. Telling people that he had seen the 360 version of MGS4 and the graphics were a lot better. When you shop there you can call him a goose but when he is your boss you just have to cop it.

Game shops don't pay enough, nor offer their employees enough responsibility, to attract the open-minded people you desire. A long time ago ("back in the day") retail stores used to stock salespeople. These people were trained, personable, and skilled - they made a commission (aka, they shared in the profits), dressed professionally, took their job seriously, and were an important part of the company. - These days stores like GameStop are run as cheaply as possible, and they don't offer the managers any control of the company. Store managers are at the whim of a guidebook, and the days where they could play games at work, chat it up with fellow gamers, or actually enjoy their job, are over. The quality of your sales experience depends on the pools they're drawing from. Near colleges you'll find some great people working there part-time - college students making a few extra bucks, or working for the discount. Other places, malls and the like, you'll tend to find a less desirable sort of employee - people who are unattentive, fanboys, or simply not knowledgable about gaming. - It's frustrating, I agree, but there's not much that can be done. Unless you're willing to pay a premium for your videogames, it would be impossible for a game store to offer the kind of pay or career advancement that can keep great people for long periods of time.

Nah, the Gamestop I go to is pretty well-rounded: there's some PS3 favored, 360 favored, but not so much PC or Wii. So I get some good input on any game I want to buy, unless it's for PC, then I usually have to trust my own judgment. As for the Wii, I usually just ask kids or their parents what's pretty good. Suprisingly, their suggestions are pretty spot on (can you believe an 11 year old recommended Dead Space Extraction!?). Not all us gamers are anti-social, you know :P.

Game shops ARE unbelievably crappy to their employees and there is not nearly enough incentive to do things properly. However, that isn't the cause of poor employees. In my experience the people that work at game shops are better than your average person working at your average store. I know plenty of people pursuing high quality degrees at universities that treat the customers as well as they possibly can that work at game shops. Part of the reason the people that work at game shops aren't lowest common denominator like other places is because the game shops can afford to hire pretty much anyone they want to out of the teenager demographic due to just about every teenage boy and their brother playing videogames and dreaming of working in a game shop. The applications just keep coming in no matter what the business does to their employees. Anyway, it's pretty much an entry level job the same as working at a fast food restaurant or a grocery store. If you're expecting a sales person you're in for some serious disappointment. People working at videogame shops make minimum wage and no commission and it shows on their faces. Treat them with respect and don't be a complete jerk to them. Unless they're obnoxious fanboys.

You shouldn't be going to Gamestop for opinions on software anyway, you're logged into Gamespot. There are plenty of very well-educated people on these forums despite our biases and you have high quality reviews just in front of your face.
