I've never really met a console fanboy in real life to be honest.

Brownesque

That's because if you call it the "Trey" in real life people probably laugh in your face.

I don't get it. :?

Yes.

I was in a local store recently, and this family was coming in to get their 360 back (it came in for repairs), and the conversation went somewhat like this I believe.

*Now they had already discussed the probable cause of the 360's RROD*

Dad - So what's the new PS3 slim? Is it the same as the old models?

Clerk - Yah, but it's got a lot of downgrades. It no longer has support for your own operating systems, and it doesn't play PS1 games anymore.

Dad - Does it break down very often?

Clerk - Well it's made of low quality parts, so it's got a pretty high defective rate.

Dad - Do you know what causes it?

Clerk - Sony made it

The dad smiled, and walked out. I really hope he didn't take the clerk seriously.

The bias I've noticed among clerks isn't really any greater than the fanboyism that most gamers possess. Sometimes you come across an opinionated employee, but typically his logic is just skewed and easily dismissed. What I've noticed is the shameful business tactics they use to take advantage of the non-gamer. Whenever such a person enters a store (like Gamestop) you can nearly guarantee they'll have poor products shoved down their throats regardless of whether they asked for a recommendation or not. You shouldn't encounter much fanboyism or cheap sales schemes if you know what you're talking about though. In fact, if you show that you know your games they won't even voice their opinion to you. And yeah, many of the people who work at game retailers now don't really know more than they have to, so if you're a Gamespot member you should already have a 1up on them.

One of my ex girlfriends used to manage a GS. She used to wear low cut blouses and flash just about everybody. Most people would buy whatever just because of the free show.

Because the 360 is so much more reliable?

That's the thing that got me.

There were two 360's on the counter to be returned, the one in the dad's hand that was recently repaired, and there were two flashing RROD systems in the corner that had to still get repaired, and the clerk could still bring himself to say that because the PS3 is Sony made that it's guaranteed to fail...

Tbh it sounds like the dad walked out to go to another store and buy a slim.

I'm just hopeful he didn't take the clerk seriously. The smile, and the sudden end of the conversation leads me to believe he didn't.

His kids were really wanting Halo ODST, so I donno if he'd just drop $300 on a system that his kids didn't want. Maybe it'll be a Christmas present after a little persuasion.

I rarely run into any. I once had an obnoxious cow ring me up at Gamestop. I bought a 360 and he kept telling me I was making a mistake because I could buy a PS3 for the same price I was spending there. All I kept thinking was "shut the hell up and bag up my console."

For the record I have a PS3 as well.

If it bothers you that much then do what I do. Play along and then do the direct opposite of what the employee recommends...

Only time I got annoyed by a GS employee was when I first bought my 360 in July. He kept swearing up and down that Microsoft'a warranty (covering RROD) was only good for one year and that I should by the store warranty.

I don't usually buy my games from GameStop. The last game I purchased from them was GTA4 on release day. I buy my games from Amazon now (free 2 day shipping, 10% discount, lower prices then gamestop (usually by 3-5% off), and no sales tax. The last time I was in my local mall I went to Gamestop, and I talked to an employee who seemed to know his stuff, but he wasn't a fanboy. I asked him how the PS3 was selling now that it had dropped to $299 and he said it was selling a lot more, and that people were trading in their 360's towards a PS3.

I don't stand what it is with the hatred of fanboys. If you hate them so much why do you bother coming to System Wars? No, fanboy employees don't bother me. I just buy my games and I'm out.
