I still going to get it. I just store my PS2 somewhere for now. I don't really play much of my PS2 anymore, beside Devil May Cry and Shadow of the Colossus, so it is not a big deal.

Well these are desparate times for Sony and the PS3. If this fails expect a new model called the Ultra Slim where all you get is the bare motherboard and a blu-ray drive!:lol:The consumer speaks with his money.
Don't buy a PS3 unless it has BC, because Sony should not have omitted this feature from its console.

while i agree that many gamers would want their new console to play games from a previous system, there are many MANY others who buy a new console mainly for its new games.. (i happen to have a PS3 with BC but never used such feature and i also still have a PS2)..
thats funny because i bought my ps3 back in middle of 2007 only because it had the emotion engine (i didnt even buy a game for over a year)
and yet i never play any ps2 games on my ps3 lol

Don't buy a360 unless there is no more RROD because Microsoft should have fixed it a long time ago.
I'm fine with that.[QUOTE="W1ckedGo0se"]First off Who does not have a PS2 here lol... Second off if you do not what do you want to play with it... Finally, Sony can't afford to add PS2 Backward compatability they will lose the sales off people still buying PS2's and the Ps3 is already the most for your money...DeathtransitEven if you have a PS2 it is still lame. I GUARANTEE your PS2 does not look as good on an HDTV as a PS2 game on my 60GB PS3 with smoothing and upscaling on and through HDMI.Not only that, what about display lag for timing-sensitive games?
If you don't get rid of your old games why would you get rid of the Games System... and the PS2 is still being Manufactured... BC is not a problem with Sony because they still have good support on the PS2 unlike Microsoft and how they dropped the Xbox as fast as they could (can't even find controllers anymore)[QUOTE="W1ckedGo0se"][QUOTE="Deathtransit"] Whoa look a me I don't think games are disposable and want to be able to still play them should the console no longer be manufactured.RogueShodown
I really don't understand why Nintendo or Microsoft didn't just sell their old consoles for low prices like Sony is doing. It would make them a lot of money and people would buy them just by looking at the price difference. If you have a young child who you want to get a game console for, it won't matter what the graphics look like to them. They'll be happy to just play the games themselves. One reason why I didn't get an Xbox last gen was because the online cost money andthe price was hard to justify compared to the ps2's and the games the ps2 had. If it costed $100 now, I would buy it right away(and judging by the 360's price, they could easily do that).
Actually, Microsoft can't. They have no more XChips and no rights to make them (nVidia owns the rights and refuses to make anymore). As for Nintendo, they attract enough business with the Wii that they don't need to make more GameCubes, and since the Wii is ~100% BC with GameCube games (just pop the disc in), there's little to no issues of BC. The point people are trying to make is that Microsoft and Nintendo both have kept BC in some way, shape, or form while Sony had cut theirs drastically back.[QUOTE="n00bkid"][QUOTE="ogvampire"]And your a good man for doing so! grats. Wrong, you're only showing Sony that you don't care about BC. They would bring it back if sales were low.Did you buy a PS3 when it was available? If not then don't complain.too late... i already did :(
TheElfChild
Who waited 8+ years so they can play PS2 games on Sony's current gen console?
If you wanted to play PS2 games so bad you would of gotten a PS2 by now or a PS3 with BC.
I own a 60gig BC PS3 and you speak the truth. I never use BC.80% of the people here crying for B/C would'nt use it... Ever.
Filthybastrd
About the same % of people on here who cry about RROD but have no chance of getting it without owning the hardware.80% of the people here crying for B/C would'nt use it... Ever.

Seems that when the PS3 had BC support everyone wanted a lower price for a PS3 and now that they have a trimed down PS3 they want everything that those of us that spent the extra cash for in the begining got. The only person that's at fault of not haveing BC support is the person that was to cheap to buy it when they could.jimm895
Pretty much this. Anyhow, I see it one of two ways:
If price was the thing keeping you from thinking about a PS3, then they've just dropped it by $100, and it now costs half of the launch price.
If you missed out on a BC system and PS2 playability is the big thing you're looking for... then they've just dropped the price of the PS3 by $100. You can now by a spankin new PS2Slim and a spankin new 120GB PS3Slim for the price of a 40GB PS3 from a month ago.
Either way, the value for your dollar is high.
[QUOTE="Floppy_Jim"]It has PS1 BC. If they kept PS2 BC it would be more expensive. dommeusIf they used software emulation like the 360, surely it would just take up space on the HDD?I think the reason why Sony hasn't released software PS2 BC is because they're having trouble emulating the PS2's GPU.I'm thinking of buying a PS3 slim for my PS3 games to relieve some stress off my 60Gb PS3 and just use it for my Ps2 games.

I didnt buy a PS3 slim, I bought a Ps3 20gb for 280 dollars and then bought a 320 gb harddrive for 50 dollars. I'm playing god of war right now also final fantasy 12. SO MANY GAMES TO PLAY!!!!! I'm getting goosebumps by just about thinking it =)!!
Sony said that BC wont return ever, give it a rest. Analizer2um look at the sonystore site and go to ps3 and read the tiny writing. it says the system is not BC with ps2 games but also says "try it anyways it might work" or something like that. this is legal stuff and they put that there for their own opening. why else would they say that if BC has no chance of happening.
