It's a fantastically designed FPS that stands above the rest within this generation, but needless to say there are much better games out there. This is all subjective, however.
What people who haven't played Crysis fail to understand is that its technical expertise allow for more than just attractive textures. The sheer size of the game world, along with the nano-suit, allows for a variety of different playing styles. There is a lot improvisation available seamlessly in Crysis. The game never tells you how to approach a situation for the most part. Sneaking, shooting, driving, stealing boats to get across a river. Slapping a bomb onto a car and then driving it into a base. Sniping with a silenced rifle from a distance. There are a lot of options throughout the game. I don't think its the best game ever but its a step in the right direction.
have crysis and i thought it was a decent game. We usually use Crysis as a benchmark. However Crysis 2 is looking really good, and i dont mean that literally int terms of visuals but it seems taht it has a more linear style action to the game its not so giant and expansive. The jungle was nice but whebn there wasn't anything to do in the jungle it would get boring. The vehicle parts where also very poop. Overall I give it a 9/10, without the graphics id give it an 8, but since it really set the benchmark for a games visuals 3 years down the road i have to add that extra to it.
I'm mostly a PC gamer but I wasn't impressed with Crysis much (aside from the graphics.) Played through it once. Tried again but got bored. Also, I hate the zero gravity level.

No, I think its rather average tbh, past the graphics, the "non linearity" is a massive joke. adds near to nothing unless your a 5 year old pretending your action men are real kinda deal. I dont have that kinda imagination or willfullness to waste time like that, no incentive to do anything but go from A to B guns blazing.

Personally I think there are a lot of other games that are better ... Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Planescape Torment, Age of Empires 2 ... but I havent played a better FPS on consoles than Crysis that is one thing for sure!

you can clearly see that he is one of those people that bash crysis but when they are asked why or to provide a list of better fps this gen they just cant do it.
For a game that at it's core is based around player choice and sandbox design, no it is paced wonderfully; it's a perfect example of excellent pacing in this regard. Even it's dull restrictive sections are paced well. It's story is predictable, however it is well presented and decently told, despite lacking originality. It is a weak point, however as with shooters, this is not the driving force of the game; even touted titles like Bioshock dive into mediocrity after a certain point, while others like Halo 3 are so wound up in their own logic completely defy intelligent storytelling conventions (Call of Duty included). To quote gamespot: "Crysis is visually stunning, packed with intelligent, thrilling gameplay, and easily one of the greatest shooters ever made." While my opinion differs there is a reason behind this statement, and narrative sure as hell isn't one.

One that moves the genre outside it's conservative conventions and actually tries to do something inventive in regard to conventional game design. Oh and I don't mean games with token innovations which people love to throw about.
It's not the best game of all time, but it definitly is by far the best traditional FPS this gen, at least when it comes to singleplayer ones. It's the only game of this type in last few years that actualy progressed the core gameplay forward, while every other game either stagnated at last gen level or even regressed.
