I do care. It looks like a mangled pile of dog crap without it.
Jaggy's = fail in it's pureist form!

Lmao, you cant even tell the difference... The devs do it for a reason, and being so picky about it is pretty selfish.

exactly, there's nothing worse than playing a game at a bad framerate, no matter how good it might look.

I don't care, in-fact i wish more games were rendered at lower resolutions so there would be an increase in framerate, something that does actually affect gameplay.michael098
Exactly, I find it hard to believe some seriously are bothered by this, devs do it to increase performance and add more to the game, there is almost no difference also. I bet if an actual dev heard about someone complaining about this they would laugh in there face for being so ignorant.

Uhhh... What games look like a jaggy mess? Did halo 3? No, not at all, it looks better because there were able to add more effects to the game by scaling down the rez. Its upscaed too so you cant even tell the difference anyways.
If 640p makes it a jaggy mess then yes.Lazy_Boy88
What would you rather? Bungie make halo 3 run at higher resolutions and have a crap frame rate? Or completely throw out the dual frame buffer technique and have a downgrade in lighting and maybe a shorter draw distance without 10km of geometry? Because we all know your talking about halo 3.

Not if the game is going to run like ****. I don't know anyone that would prefer graphics over performance.

Lol yea, and its funny that probably no one here would have known halo 3 was natively rendered at 640p if someone on some other fourm had not done some test to prove it. And its not like that guy just looked at his tv and though WTF? this is 640p!....

Thats not the point, i doubt everyone complaining about the resolution of games own a high end pc, so does that mean they would turn the resolution up to max and play a game at 10fps?
[QUOTE="bri360"]True, but we are not talking about PC's now are we?
PikaPichu
I thought we were? :?
Put it this way, if you could change the resolution of an xbox 360 game to below what was natively rendered at on games with bad framerates like dirt would you? Because people act like the devs just decided for no good reason that they would lower the resolution to below 1080p or 720p.

No, but they'd probably rather play a game at 30 fps at 1024x768 than at 45 fps at 800x600.

I've been out of the loop for a while... when did devs start rendering games below 720p on the 360? I thought 720p rendering was a requirement for all 360 games?
If you can't tell the difference between 720p and 480p, you need your eyes checked. And it does make a HUGE difference. Would Crysis look so epic in scale if it wasn't in an HD resolution?batistafan99
Were not talking about 720 and 480, were talking about games being made in resolutions like 600/640p and being upscaled to 720 or 1080. The difference is small, and it allows devs to add alot more to games.
I care.
Rather I can tell the difference between the resolutions isn't my concern. These games don't look nearly as sharp as I would expect and from what I understand, I can apply the concept of resolution to this.
On my computer monitor, 1024x768 is VERY noticable when compared to 1280x1024. And that is about only one resolution better. I am certain there is a difference between 6xx and 1080p. As for performance, thats when it brings up the whole false advertisment thing. I and a lot of other people were promised gorgeous looking games at great performance on these behemoth consoles ready for the new world of HD... and we were flat out lied to. That pisses me off.

Well it kinda started with halo 3 I think, they made it at native 640p to allow for more effects while maintaining a good framerate. It is upscaled to 720p anyways so it looks about the same in the end. It doesnt really apply to PC's just consoles at the moment which is why we wernt really talking about PC, just using it as a reference point lol. Devs do this for a reason, and im saying that alot of people are getting po'd over this when it really isnt a big deal and it allows for better performance and more effects etc. Its not just 360 to sony has devs dooing this as well.

Are you sure? Because when the news came out that halo 3 was natively rendered at 640p instead of 720p there was a really big fuss. And you are missing the point again, games like halo 3 and gears are pushing the xbox hard so any noticeable increase in the resolution could have a major impact on the performance making the game un playable. 30 frames per second at 1024x768 is an okay frame rate and is playable, but halo 3 which is being rendered at 640p is already running at 30fps so increasing it to 720p or even 1080p will have a huge impact on the frame-rate and the game would be very bad to play, its not like bungie didn't test halo 3 at different resolution to find the best one.
I take it I'm the only one who takes offense to developers knowingly and deliberately lying on their boxes? Should they not be held accountable for this? It is false advertising which (i think) can be prosecuted pretty hard?HungryLikeAMug
Mabye its ok for them to say this since its upscaled to 720/1080 anyways. It doesnt say true native 720p on the box does it? I think it just says 720 or 1080.

Most people probably wouldn't notice if it was upscaled from 640. 480 is a whole 'nother story.

Native is what the game is designed and made at and upscaled is when the 360 or w/e your using takes the native resolution and upscales it to a higher resolution like 720p and 1080p. In the end native will be better but if you actually compare it, it isnt much of difference.

Is upscaling like stretching 1 pixel to fill the space of 2 or more pixels?

No, upscaling is more like, it calculates where the pixels should be and what they should be. There isnt any stretching involved which is why it looks pretty close to a native rez.
People should care, especially in the case with this whole Halo 3 upscaling thing. If I buy a game and it says 1080p ( or whatever the case ) on the box it should damn well be 1080p - if not then it should state what it is running on. Likewise if I buy Halo 3 and that's what is on the box I better not find Gears of War when I open it up. I bought something that can support a certain resolution, I have a game that states it can run on said resolution and it doesn't? That's just garbage.bob_the_funny

And KungfuKitten, unfortunatley they cant simply change the games native res, as it will cause the game to drop its frame rate. Why else did Halo 3 have a lower res - to compensate for the lighting. Hell why else did it have no AA? To compensate for lighting.
The fact these two next gen consoles should ALL be at least 720p native with games, not crappy upscaled resolution.
If not, then they shouldent falsely advertise otherwise on the back of the box.
There is a signifigant difference between upscaled images and native. Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong and probably has no idea what they are talking about.
I always game using my PC on a 40" 1080p sony TV and I assure you, the difference between 720p (1280 x 720 for PC gamers) and 1080p (1920 x 1020) is really signifigant, even 5 feet back on the couch. If only my PC could always play games in 1080p. Crysis barely runs in 720p.
That being said, if developers scale the image back from 720p that means that they have put in a lot of eye candy so we shouldn't complain. COD4 runs at 600p because the graphics and effects are so rich. ANyway, if you want full HD then buy COD4 PC and get a new video card.
