I remember back in the day whenever I saw a game that I thought looked cool, I went out and bought it, not knowing what other people thought about it, I certainly didn't read reviews about it, I either liked it or didn't like it that was all. It seems like people rely too much on the words of others these days, I mean not everyone thinks alike we all think differently and we should all play games that we find interesting to US not to someone else.

When games were a bit cheaper I would. But I found out the hard way that some games weren't woth my money. So, I followed reviews. If there was a bad review for a game I liked then I would go on youtube and watch gameplay footage.

However, Demo's now days have probably saved me the most money.

No. They rely to much on the scores. It would be a refreshing change of pace if they relied on the actual reviews. Hell, this place would probably have much less idiocy going on if people even READ the reviews AT ALL.

Some games I will buy no matter what the review is.

Other games that I'm not sure about I depend on reviews, Manhunt 2 comes to mind, if that didn't get crappy reviews I probely would of gave it a shot.

Other games that were not even on my radar, got rave reviews, like Zack and Wiki, so I bought them. Just don't take scores to literally, read the reviews and decide for yourself.

Most people dopn't put THAt much weight into reviews. They're guides.

Unless you come here to SW. Then you have immature posts from immature people who love to play SW. Except, as a game, I only give SW 1 out of 10.

Renting is what saves a gamer money. That way, you can give almost anything a try and make you own opinion. Wow, what a concept.

i can't afford every game i think looks interesting, so if a game gets a lot of bad reviews(Haze), i won't get it.

if it's a sequal that gets bad reviews(MHF2), but i liked the previouse games, i'll still get it.

By and large... I think people only rely too much on reviews HERE in System Wars. I know I've bought my share of 5.0 games and loved them. Reviews do help give you some idea though, and if I'm leery, I'll rent the game first.

I read reviews for an objective analysis of the game.
I let my own opinion determine if I like the game or not.

Yep, i see many say after a game scores low, that its a flop and they won't touch it...but reviews are ALSO opinions, what they hate..you might like.

If it looks interesting, yet scores not good, atleast try it out and see it for your self. thats what i do.

I usually never buy games that are below AAA on gamespot (sometimes I will go nuts and buy a gamespot 8.5, but that is rare and it has to look like a very interesting game).

who has time to play video games any ways? i read reviews and video game forums and base my opinions about games, and their systems, solely on screen shots and how high, or low, they scored.

I have never bought anything based on reviews. Instead I look at what I am buying and see if the product regardless of what it is as long as it meets what I am looking for. In games I buy games based on storyline and game play.

I rely on reviews because I don't have the time to play all of the ones that look interesting to me. Though I don't rely on them from a single source.

Reviews are ways that the industry tell you which games to buy. If you buy a game and you dont like it, dont play it anymore, or trade it in and get your lil $25 for it and buy something else. People dont take chances anymore, thats why you see all these FPS because thats whats hot right now.

I dont usually rely on reviews that much. So if a game gets like a 7 or higher im more than likely going to buy it or atleast rent it before I buy it. Games below 7 I dont usually touch unless its something I really want which is usually never. Even if a game doesnt deserve like a 9.5 or a 9 you can pretty much guarantee its still going to be enjoyable.

I have to agree. When I am paying $60 for a game. I want to make sure I'm going to be getting my moneys worth.

In a genre that I generally enjoy reviews be damned.

But when we moved into certain genres that I could take or leave reading a few reviews will often be a useful aide in determining if I should buy it at its new release price point, or wait a few months. The opposite is also true, if a game I had little interest in scores very well perhaps I will pick it up? (IE No More Heroes)

How do you know if the product meets what you are looking for if you never read reviews? You certainly can't learn anything about a game by reading the box. Even if you don't agree with a certain score, reviews certainly point out strengths and weaknesses of the game, as well as describe certain gameplay and story and feature elements.

I use reviews to see what's good, what's bad,and if I'll be satisfied with a certain game, but there are people here who follow reviews almost religiously.

When I was young I would make some of the most stupid video game rents because I would base them off of how cool the cover looked.

I always research games before buying them. I look at both previews and reviews. I don't care at al what kind of review scores are given for the game. I read the negatives and any problems the game has. If the game is still something im interested in I buy it even if it scores bad, for instance I am still going to buy Haze.

Usually reviews and review scores will only get me to purchase a game I originally overlooked or hadn't considered buying.

Lol, I wonder what this topic is really about?

Anyway all reviews are good for is getting a general idea about the game because when it all comes down to it a review is still just an opinion.

I Agree, i Dont like people giving scores and telling people to buy something just for their opinions, thats why i read GI, because they give it to you without a whole lot of opinion like EGM does, then they give you a second thought. Some Magazines and Websites are biased also giving games bad scores

Yeah...

I am so glad I went against the advice of most reviews and rushed out to get Killzone, Lair, Sudeki, Advent Rising, Mission Imposible, Diddy Kong Racing, Superman 64, Daikatana, Shaq Fu, Top Gun, and the fabled ET for Atari 2600. All games that were hyped to high heck prior to release.

Unless you are renting first, or you are super comfortable with the developer or the genre the reality is that you can use reviews, or you can use hype to determine if a game is worth while, and personally reviews seem to do a MUCH better job.
