Square wouldn't exist if not for Sony. If anyone here remembers that atrocious FF movie The Spirits Within? It bankrupted Square & they went to Sony for help. Sony actually had an ownership percentage of Square. Still do I think. Sony did buy the studio in Hawaii that Square built to make that FF movie. I don't remember all the details but, Square is just doing what they can to survive. And the merger w/ Enix hasn't been all roses. A new Dragon Quest every few years might shut down Japan, but those waves don't travel across the big blue. FF games are ridiculously expensive to produce now. If they don't sell in the millions then they are a bust. More platforms = more money = less risk of capitol loss. No Japanese publisher can afford a major loss in the economy over there.
I've actually enjoyed the SquareEnix games I've played on the PS3 so far this gen like Tomb Raider: Underworld and Batman: AA.

Square Enix didn't purchase Eidos until this year, so Square Enix had nothing to do with Tomb Raider: Underworld. As for Batman, thats debatable. Eidos wont publishing under the Square name until next year. However, it was published by Warner Brothers in the US.
First Final Fantasy 13 went multiplat, then Final Fantasy 14, hey! why not star ocean only for the 360?! There is a 80% chance Kingdom Hearts 3 will be multiplat. Whats next? Persona 5 on Xbox 360!?!?!?
You cant trust anyone these days. Sure its for money but sony fans have been nothing but loyal to SE and now they screw sony over?
Whats your opinon?

You forgot Dragon Quest IX and Dragon Quest X on the DS and Wii, respectively. :P
Square Enix made games this gen that sold poorly here and sold moderatly in japan. Look at the RPGS that came out this gen how much did they sell? PS3 or Xbox 360 for that matter over here in NA. The best selling one that i know of is Lost Odessy on 360 and that was an exclusive. Everything else is didnt even sell remotely well. They are not gonna gamble on the PS3 cause of the horrible attach rate on games over here in NA now Japan is a different story.
It's hilarious how you think Square Enix, Sony, or the gaming industry for that case have a concept of "loyalty". Square Enix wants to sell their game. Millions of gamers owns a 360. Do the math. Only fanboys see multiplats as a terrible thing, rather than a chance for more people to get into their favorite series.
How are u being screwed over. its not like they are not releasing the Games on PS3. if anything, u want to blame sony. Face it, sony had the industry. if they had played there cards right, they would be 2nd. but noo Next gen started when they said it did... If sony had the numbers and profit, then SE wouldnt be doing this. Fact of life is, sony is still losing money on the ps3, and MS is paying for exclusive content, or to shift previously unavailable games onto its system.First Final Fantasy 13 went multiplat, then Final Fantasy 14, hey! why not star ocean only for the 360?! If Square-Enix hated Sony they wouldn't be bringing games to their systems they would purposely keep them off those systems but just the fact that those games are coming to the PS3 and PSP mean they don't hate Sony.

Technically speaking there are a couple RPGs SE has released on X360 exclusively and purposely left out the PS3. I think that can definetely be seen as "screwed over". The multiplats leave a bad taste in your mouth but when you combine it with the fact they have exclusive games only on X360......yeah how can anyone say PS3 owners shouldn't be upset.I could'nt care less if their games go multiplat as long as they arent 360 exclusive.
I'm much more concerned with the quality of their games since SE sort of needs to prove itself again.
People tend to forget that the video game industry is a business. Brand loyality can only go so far.
First of all Square Enix has always been third party even when they were separate companies and were around before Sony consoles ever existed. Secondly Persona is developed and/or published by Atlus not SE. Other systems are more profitable for SE this gen up to this point.First Final Fantasy 13 went multiplat, then Final Fantasy 14, hey! why not star ocean only for the 360?! It is confusing why they release games exclusively in Japan on the 360...I mean, you never see WRPG games exclusive on the PS3 anywhere let alone in the US...SE lost some potential sales in Japan.
Kahuna_1
Yes but I think that building relations with MS and the Xbox userbase was much more important to them.
Theyre a games developer.
A buissiness. Theyre in this to make money, not to please fanboys...

Yeah, going multiplat is how you build strong relations, but dont they also care about their own company and their fanbase in Japan? I would think they would want to maximize their profits.

The idea is that its a business risk to gain more profits in the end. None of the MS exclusive games will be in the Realm of FF13 cost and sales. They lose some building the userbase then receive the reward when the game drops. In theory anyway.
no they just want to be third party
ok ,
they want to be able to make games for
ps3
psp
ds
wii
dsi
ps2
xbox 360 simple as that ,,
sony did not pay like they did last gen for them to stay with the brand ,
look at it this way
all the wii ffs and such sell and give square more money to bring all of us better games

they dont hate sony, but they love money. multiplat is the way to go this gen, especially if you want to make more money. Indeed, this gen relies on the 1st party games or paying for exclusives. Don't rely on 3rd parties making many exclusives.Funny how the Cows think that gaming didn't exist before the PlayStation. yes Square was on Nitnendo's consoles (the NES and the SNES) ... The final Fantasy series is starting to get, regular... plain... the same as always. Hopefully they do come out with some new ideas soon, multiplat or not! ;)I can't tell if this is a joke or not. Anyway, they started off on nintendo, so why would they be bound to Sony? I hope to god KH3 does come out on X360, because I'm not interested in FF at all.
